Pie Face Sunway Pyramid

After I read about HB vouching for authentic Aussie beef pies here, I quickly went to Sunway Pyramid to try out the pies before the quality has time to change.

The size of the mini pies as compared to a standard sized table spoon. Diameter is about 2.5 inches (about 6 cm).
There is a promotion deal where you can buy any 6 mini pies (mix and match) for MYR18 nett but I bought 6 of the same type (Chunky Steak) because I only wanted beef pies of non-local taste so no rendang pies for me. Too bad the minced beef pies were sold out too. All in all, they sell 10 types of pie.

The height of a mini pie as compared to a standard sized table spoon (about 1.5 inches or 4 cm).
It contains 4 to 5 chunks of steak and some pieces of carrots in puff pastry.

Top view after I have removed the top pastry cover. Very good value for the amount of steak chunks for just MYR3 nett. I think the puff pastry is a bit undercooked so it has a bit of doughy taste but I like doughy taste so I find the chunky steak mini pie very tasty.

This stall is located on the floor just above the Ice Skating Rink at Sunway Pyramid. It has a small seating area for those dining in. You can watch people skating on the ice when you are sitting at the dine-in area.

I wanted to try the mini minced beef pie too but they were not available. A mini pie costs MYR5 nett each and a normal sized pie costs MYR7 or MYR8 nett each depending on its fillings.

Normal sized pies at MYR7 or MYR8 nett each.

They sell croissants and sweet pies too.

The deals: 6 mini pies for MYR18 nett; 12 mini pies for MYR34 nett; 6 Regular pies for the price of 5.

The types of pie sold.

  1. Why you choose sad face pies? Steak chunks and carrot filling look so yummy, but I don't take beef, any chicken filling?

I can have at least 3 of these pies

    1. I chose the pies by their fillings, not by their faces. :) Yes, there are a few types of chicken fillings.

  2. By the way, where is this Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall?

  3. So cheap!!! I really wonder how mini they actually are. The filling sure looks good. Our nice chicken pie here started at RM2.80 and it went up and up and up, now RM3.80...but it is not really mini, say 4 or 5 inches diameter.

  4. hmmm, if you buy the set of 6 mini pies, you can only choose one type of fillings?? I would have wanted to choose different fillings so that I can try all at one go, haha!! looking at the face, only the creamy mushrooms and chicken mushrooms are happy, the rest are sad, hehe~~

    1. No, you can mix and match any type of mini pies. I just wanted beef with non-local taste so no beef rendang pies for me.

  5. Oh, I was just at Sunway Pyramid the other day. I do like these mini pies (probably about 2+ inches compared to the tablespoon?)...can try many flavours at one go :)

    1. Yes you are right about the size. :) You can buy them the next time you are in Sunway Pyramid. HB says too much potatoes in the chicken curry pie so maybe stay clear of that.

  10. I thought these were ok only. Mainly coz I prefer shortcrust to puff pastry. Haven't found shortcrust pies yet.

    1. Which fillings did you eat? I focus on the chunky steak filling which is very tasty and ignore the pastry though I did eat the pastry because the pastry is so little it can be ignored. "A pie thing" eatery in Damansara Uptown serves shortcrust pie that is very tasty too:

  11. Yeah, I would say the beef steak is the best followed by mince meat. I'm just used to eating minced meat coz Aussie pies usually are minced meat (at least the cheaper ones are) and I ate a lot when I was studying there - just buy a 6 pack, put in fridge and microwave when hungry. Haha.

Glad you liked them too Mun, sorry to hear the pastry wasn't cooked well here.

    1. No need to say sorry because it may all be like that, just that I am sensitive to raw dough taste. I will buy the mini minced beef and mini beef rendang pies the next time I go to Sunway Pyramid in addition to more mini chunky beef pies.
