Pulau Tikus

The next morning, we went to Pulau Tikus market at 7 am to buy some vegetables and we ate breakfast at a coffee shop nearby.

Hokkien Mee = Penang Prawn Mee - the portion is small so just nice for me. Taste good. The default noodle is a mix of yellow mee and mee hoon. The price is just MYR3.50 nett for one bowl.

Clay pot Apom Manis (sweet crepe) - RM0.80 for one piece. Soft and fluffy in the center and crispy at the sides.

The Apom Manis is made in Claypots. The cook must have hands of steel because he uses his bare hands to remove the apom from the hot claypots and fold them.

The name of the coffee shop is Swee Kong, located at Moulmein Close Road, Pulau Tikus.

  1. Mun, I love Hokkien Mee and Apom Manis. But I like my Hokkien Mee with only yellow mee. Have a wonderful new week!

  2. Pulau Tikus market is a good choice. Heard many good reviews about the food there though I have never been myself. Never never never ever go to Gurney Drive. Rude people and food is not great at all, tourist trap.

  4. I've only seen apom made in mini steel woks....but claypot?!...his hands are made of steel coz claypot (I think) retains heat even more.

  5. Oh. First time seeing people make apom manis from claypot. And I bet his hands are hard and thick to do that too.

  6. The Hokkien Mee looks very tasty. If it is small, then I need to eat two bowls :D I have not had apom manis before.

    1. Can keep the space in your stomach to eat something else. Apom manis is like crepe with a soft thick middle.

  9. Huh? Claypot? But... probably a good idea. Does the apom have a rustic taste to it?

    1. These claypot apoms are very famous and popular. You must go try since you live in Penang and tell me got rustic taste or not. Er, what is rustic taste? Rustic feel I know, but taste....

  10. I know this famous shop. They are also better known for the Mee Goreng in the afternoons too.

Now funny memories came back as I was once arrested by the blue uniformed at the opposite balai for racing a scrambler bike into that lane which was a one way street. They could not lay me and hauled me to the balai for more arm wrestling talk. I had to use my father's occupation to scoot free. Muahahaha
