Fuzhou Food and more

Fuzhou Dry Noodle (small) - MYR20 - a lot of deep fried lard in this dish

Fuzhou seafood rice noodle with red wine (small) - MYR20 - can taste the rice wine which is smooth unlike some strong chinese wine but the dish does not seem red in colour. Rice noodle is soft and I like the taste of the wine.

Fuzhou stirfry mix vegetable - MYR18

Fish head noodle (1 pax) - MYR18 - tasty because they served Garoupa (sek pan) fish pieces in this dish and old strong tasting ginger slices.

Prawn Ball - MYR7 each so for 4, it costs MYR28

The prawns were compacted into a ball with a crunchy external layer of fried flour strips. I was surprised to see corn niblets in the ball.

When I see this item on the Dim Sum menu, I must order it. Lao Sar Bao - MYR4.80 for 3 in a basket. Taste is acceptable. Also ordered pork siew mai - MYR5.80 for 4 in a basket. Don't like the siew mai because there were unknown chewy bits in the siew mai.

Hairy crabs - MYR19.90 for one so RM39.80 for two

This is the signature food of this restaurant so my friends decided to order them - the famous Loon Sing Buddha Jump Over The Wall soup. MYR49 for the cheapest bowl.

In the MYR49 bowl, there are half a piece of black mushroom, a mini abalone, dried scallops, a small piece of sea cucumber, a piece of chicken meat, and a thin piece of shark fin (I do not support eating shark fins but I do not impose my belief on my friends).

MYR69 per bowl (Loon Sing Mini BJOTW) - same ingredients but with 2 pieces of shark fin.

MYR99 per bowl (Loon Sing Superior BJOTW) - A much bigger abalone, fish maw, 3 pieces of thicker shark fin, and the rest of the ingredients are the same as the MYR49 bowl. The soup for this is nicer, less salty according to my friend.

This is the size of the 'bowls' of BJOTW.  They also offer a pre-booked BJOTW for 10 pax at MYR3000 - a large pot.

Egg pancake?

Roti telur or roti prata with egg - MYR2.20 - I sometimes eat it like how I eat bread - just roll it up like the photo above and eat it without any gravy or sauce so that I can eat it at my seat at work while still typing on the keyboard. Filling and with no mess.

Hakka Yam Abacus

We went to Soon Lei again for lunch and this time I ordered their homemade Hakka yam abacus - 'suan pan zi' (算盘子) in Mandarin.

MYR8.50 for the small portion

Stir fried with minced pork and lots of spring onions. I can detect the yam taste in the abacus.

Updated: Still looks the same in 2015

Updated: Price has increased to MYR9.50 (small portion) in 2015

Order right

Since I ordered wrongly the previous time I was at Sweet Bean, I ate there again and made sure I ordered the right food this time. Two of us shared all the food below.

A set of mini bowls "tong sui" (sweet soup) - MYR4.20 - black glutinous rice and peanut paste (correctly ordered peanut paste this time).

Nasi Minyak (Oil rice) - MYR7.90 - but looks like Nasi Lemak to me except that the rice is not cooked with santan (coconut milk) but with minyak (oil).

My spouse wanted something hot so ordered this extra bowl of hot ginger sweet soup with sesame glutinous rice balls. The ginger taste is very strong and really "heat" up our stomachs.

Total bill came to MYR18.25 after MYR1.66 (service charge 10%) and I paid MYR20 but only got back MYR1.70 so I asked the cashier, don't you have a 5 cent coin? Then only she returned me a 5 cent coin without saying anything. So I guess in order to get back the correct change, I need to ask. The previous time I did not ask and so I was short changed 5 cents.

Killiney Latest Outlet?

MYR9 - a little rice with broccoli, stirfry beef slices, and chicken potatoes stew

Bought from stall 2 - RICE. Stall 1 is Killiney

This new Killiney outlet is in a food court style. Killiney itself occupies one stall and the rest of the stalls sell other type of food. Do you know this location?

Last Day

On Saturday we went for lunch at about 2pm so many of the stalls were closing and we ended up in On On Bak Kut Teh coffee shop. My spouse ordered a bowl of curry noodle from the stall that sells Home Made Fsh Balls noodle and was told that the following day (Sunday) would be their last day of business because they have decided to retire from selling noodles.

Smoked Duck Udon - MYR8 - from another stall

Curry Noodle - MYR6 - from the same stall of the homemade fish balls.

Ordered a sesame chicken drumstick to share - MYR4

Good bye to this Fish Balls noodle stall

Croque Madame

After I read Lazy Man’s Croque-Monsieur, I remember that I have eaten Croque-Madame before so I go through my photo album and dig out these photos.

Back in 2012, Delicious at MidValley was having this breakfast set from 8am to 11am for MYR9.90++ (service charge: 10%, gov. tax: 6%).  Croque Madame - Poached egg stacked on grilled bread and turkey ham with cheese sauce (Cheddar, Gruyere, Parmesan and Mozzarella) served with a drink.

I do not eat poached egg due to the runny yolk but just for this time, I did by mixing the runny yolk with the strong tasting cheese sauce. Ended up very satiated but it tasted fine. I then skipped lunch and only ate a light dinner - that was how satiated I was by this meal.

Taken from wikipedia.org: A croque-monsieur is a hot ham and cheese (typically Emmental or Gruyère) grilled sandwich. It originated in France as a fast-food snack served in cafés and bars. A croque-monsieur served with a fried egg or poached egg on top is known as a croque-madame.
