Meet Meat

100 gm of siu yuk (roast pork) - MYR 12 nett. I selected English Mustard dip but was served salsa verde (green herby sauce) instead. I did not change it because the 3 of us don't mind having this sauce.

100 gm of char siu (BBQ pork) - MYR 12 nett. This char siu is indeed charred on the outside but the meat is very tender and the fat just melts in the mouth.

100 gm of porchetta (Italian pork roast) - MYR 13 nett. We like this meat the best because of the taste of the herbs and it has very crispy skins. Salsa verde is the dip selected.

Porchetta sandwich again. This time with ciabatta instead of baguette so it costs a bit higher at MYR 16.50 nett. Although ciabatta is softer than baguette, I feel that baguette makes the sandwich tastes better.

A small bowl of porridge to share again - MYR 4.50 nett. We just taste a bit of  the salty pickled olive vegetable.

Salt with bacon bits and spicy seasonings are provided for those who are having salads.

As my spouse likes to eat siu yuk, I introduced this eatery to him. Total bill for 3 is MYR 63 nett. Although this eatery has been around for a few years, recently Astro featured it in one of the gourmet programmes so when we were there on a Saturday, we had to wait a while for seats and customers kept walking in when we left. Hope that they will be around for a long time because the food is affordable and of high quality.

Fatty Overdose

Siu Yuk Mantao with no chili (there are 3 mantaos in 1 serving) - MYR 12 nett. The 3 of us ate 1 mantao each. The siu yuk (roast pork) has crispy skin and alternate layers of fat and meat. For once I swallowed some fats and spat out some that I felt are too thick.

Char siu mantao with sriracha chili sauce - MYR 12 nett for 1 serving (3 mantaos).  We ate 1 each again. This time I could not spit out the fatty parts of the char siu (BBQ pork) because the fat bits just melt in my mouth.

Porchetta Sandwich (Baguette) - MYR 15 nett. To put it simply, porchetta is Italian pork roast. My friend shared this with me as I love to eat rocket salad (arugula). I just love the taste of the meat, sauce and arugula. Must eat this immediately as the baguette gets a bit tough to chew when I brought some home.

A small bowl of porridge - MYR 4.50 nett. Very flavourful with many small pieces of siu yuk in it with peanuts. It was so flavourful that we did not eat much of the salty pickled vegetables provided (as can be seen in the small plastic container beside the bowl of porridge). My friend told me that the pickled vegetable is "橄欖菜/橄榄菜" (olive vegetable). I googled the chinese words and the exact picture appeared so I believe that my friend is correct. My friend shared this bowl of porridge with me too. I love the large amount of coriander/cilantro garnishing on the porridge.

My friend even bought 100 gm of siu yuk home for her family to eat. I have not eaten so much fatty bits in my entire life.

Ra Myeon

I don't know what I was thinking of when I ordered this spicy seafood Ra Myeon (Ramen) at MYR14.90+ (6% GST = MYR15.80 nett). Luckily I put half the noodles into my trusted container because I was very full when I finished eating the remaining noodles in my bowl. It was spicy and salty but satisfying because I like to eat instant noodles and this tastes like expensive instant noodles. I had to summon all my will power to withstand this level of spiciness as my tongue and mouth were burning.

This Ra Myeon includes 3 banchans: kimchi, anchovies, and long beans. I took most of the kimchi home for dinner and of course I did not ask for any refills.

Both my friends ordered rice sets and none of us had drinks. The previous visit to Ko Hyang, Gardens Mall, I just ate a pancake.

Kar Lui Peng

I received this box of kar lui peng from my friend who is going to get married. Traditionally these pastries form part of the gifts that the bridegroom will send to the bride to be given to the bride's relatives and friends.

Inside the box, there is a red pastry and a yellow pastry. They are bought from TK bakery.

The skin is quite flaky.

The yellow one has lotus paste fillings and the red one has red bean fillings. In a way, they are very similar to those moon cakes with layered flaky pastry skins.

Double Yolks

Moon cakes festival is long over for this year but I just finished eating the last moon cake in my fridge. My motto is as long as it smells and tastes ok, I am not bothered by the best-by-date printed on the packaging.

The type of moon cake (双黃蓮蓉) is carved into the wooden/plastic mould/mold so the words appear clearly on it.

After 15% discount, this moon cake costs about MYR16 and looks better than the budget moon cake I had earlier despite one of the two salted egg yolks is not as round as its neighbour. Bye bye moon cakes, till next year!

Peranakan Place

Mee Siam - MYR12.90++ (10% service charge and 6% GST = MYR15.05 nett. This Mee Siam tastes as good as my favourite mee siam but is not as sweet, more to savoury. In fact, I prefer mee siam to be more savoury than sweet. Portion is just right for me.
