Double Yolks

Moon cakes festival is long over for this year but I just finished eating the last moon cake in my fridge. My motto is as long as it smells and tastes ok, I am not bothered by the best-by-date printed on the packaging.

The type of moon cake (双黃蓮蓉) is carved into the wooden/plastic mould/mold so the words appear clearly on it.

After 15% discount, this moon cake costs about MYR16 and looks better than the budget moon cake I had earlier despite one of the two salted egg yolks is not as round as its neighbour. Bye bye moon cakes, till next year!

Peranakan Place

Mee Siam - MYR12.90++ (10% service charge and 6% GST = MYR15.05 nett. This Mee Siam tastes as good as my favourite mee siam but is not as sweet, more to savoury. In fact, I prefer mee siam to be more savoury than sweet. Portion is just right for me.

Must Eat Cakes

After reading PH's post about this promotion of buy 1 slice of cake get another slice for free, I quickly asked my co workers to have lunch at this restaurant yesterday. I selected a slice of raspberry cheese cake at MYR 12+ (10% service charge so it is MYR 13.20 nett) and the free cake I chose a slice of chocolate fudge cake. MYR 13.20 nett for two slices of cake is a good price.

3 of us ordered the value lunch set which includes soup, mains, dessert and hot/cold green tea for MYR 15.90 nett which is also a very good price. I went for the bacon pesto pasta. The server recommended that we upsize our pasta by adding MYR 4 nett but as all of us are small eaters, the small portion is fine for us so we did not take up his recommendation. The pesto pasta is very flavourful and tasty, My friend thinks so too after she ate a bit of the pesto pasta.

Complimentary soup and drink - very thick and rich pumpkin soup and a cup of hot green tea. Plain drinking water is also provided foc.

The complimentary dessert is vanilla ice cream with no selection of flavours so I ate my friend's ice cream as well since she does not eat ice creams.

Two friends did not order the value set but shared a big breakfast and took up the buy 1 get 1 free coffee promotion. In the end, they were too full to drink their coffee so they asked to take away and had to give 50 cents each for the take away cup.

The restaurant at Tropicana City Mall. I wonder whether the other outlet at Pavilion has this buy 1 get 1 free offer for cakes and coffee or not.

Pudu Chan Fatt

They were renovating their shop when I was there previously. Since I was around that area, I thought I would drop by just to try their special tasting sauce as mentioned by PH although I was not hungry and was planning to eat at another eatery at a later time.

Char Siew (BBQ pork) wanton noodle (dry) with wanton dumplings (3) in a small bowl of soup at MYR 7.50 nett. Pickled green chilies are a must for this dish. 

I agree with PH that the gravy/sauce for the noodles do not taste like the usual sauce but I find the taste acceptable. My friend said it tastes like it has balsamic vinegar in it and I think it could be some sort of seasoned vinegar. Both of us ruled out plum sauce as it does not taste like it has plum sauce. I also find that the taste of shallot oil is quite strong in the gravy/sauce.

Deep fried dumplings (4) - MYR 7.20 nett. A sweet chili dip is provided. They looked as though they have been refried as the colour is quite intense. The fillings taste ok, not too salty and I did not need to remove any fatty bits from the fillings as there were none.

Fried Lion Head Meatball (4) - MYR 7.20 nett. The chili dip  provided is different from the sweet chili dip for the fried dumplings. This chili dip is sourish. The meatballs were definitely refried or overfried.

The meatballs are dense with lean meat with chopped onions in them. A bit dry if eaten without the chili dip. I have forgotten to try the liver and pork sausages so I will need to return on another day for them.

McD Fish and Chips

There is a choice of 1 piece or 2 pieces of fish. I went for the 2 pieces of fish and chips set (MYR17.95 nett) that includes a soft drink which I changed to a cup of hot coffee by paying a top up of 50 cents.

Crispy batter with white flaky fish meat. Taste better than many of the fish and chips that I have eaten recently.

Penne

Penne Pasta with Beef Meatballs - MYR 15 nett - at Miss Molly. The portion is big so I kept half of it for dinner. It is quite tasty (a bit on the salty side) but I prefer this to the duck pasta. Penne is easier to handle than the long strands of spaghetti pasta. Initially I wanted macaroni but they ran out of it so Penne it is then.
