Resumed Order

Last year (2016), we did not order the Steamed Rice with Chinese Sausage (Lap Mei Fan) special set menu during CNY at the Zun Express. This year, as in year 2014 and 2015, we ordered the Lap Mei Fan again.

Steamed rice with cured duck meat and sausages. As we don't eat cured meat and sausages at home, we think it is ok to risk eating these cured meat once a year during CNY at this eatery.

Add on a bowl of nourishing soup to counter any ill effects of the cured meat.

Wolfberries jelly dessert that is included in the Lap Mei Fan set. I think the hot luo han guo - Siraitia grosvenorii - drink is not included in this set but in another set.

Sauteed Fish Slices with Hawthorne Sauce. The sauce is a bit sourish like tomato sauce. The fish slices do not taste like dory fish but I do not know what fish is used. Since we had these dishes a few months ago, I do not have the receipt anymore but I think the total price is in the range of MYR55 to MYR59. Updated later: Found the receipt. One set is 21++ (10% service charge and 6% GST) and the other set is 23++ so total price is MYR51.30 nett.

    1. cured/curing just means preserving the meat using many different ways like marinating the meat in salt and etc to keep it longer. cured duck meat here means lap ngap literally translated a waxed duck meat - those waxed meat eaten during cny.

    1. erh, duck meat is not that soft. perhaps those duck meat that you have eaten have been cooked too long until they turn very soft.

My hubby's family have cured meat ALL the time, they love it. My MIL is already 95 so probably it isn't that harmful? Haha.

  5. The Lap Mei Fan, dishes and dessert look yummy. I always admire the ancient culture to make cured meat, pickles and fermented food. Previously the US scientists thought they were toxic but now applauded certain cured meat and fermented dishes as good enzyme.
