Opposite Curry

When ordering curry noodles from stalls in old style coffee shops, it is better to look at the bowls of other patrons who are eating from the same stall to see what the curry noodle will look like because the curry noodles differ quite a lot from one stall to another stall as shown by the photos below.

Curry Noodle - MYR5.5 - from a stall in New Lucky coffee shop, Sri Petaling. It has red curry oil and is quite oily and not rich in coconut milk but has quite a substantial amount of chicken meat.

Curry noodle - MYR5.5 - from a stall in Swee Hing Coffee Shop, Sri Petaling. It is creamy with coconut milk with many pieces of deep fried bean curd puffs. I am not really particular about curry noodles so both are fine for me.

  1. Indeed. That is why when going some place, it is best to know people - they can take you to eat the best in town. I've read blogs of people going some place and going eating on their own...and conclude the food there is no good. What do they know?

Just like my friends from Trengganu that day - they went to Kuching and tried Sarawak laksa...and said they did not like it. Found out that they had it...at a hotel. What can one expect from hotel food? Quite nice, not bad...never the best! Hawker food...must hit the stalls for the best and must know the best ones.

  5. I like the second one.. I dont mind oily soups, I understand they need the oily cili oil to make it look and taste nicer, but I still prefer the second one kua.. But if you give me the two bowls of curry mee, I think I can finish it, no problem, hehe..

  6. I am very particular about curry noodle because I love curry. If I am to choose I go for the 2nd bowl.

  8. I like any type of curry laksa....except those Ipoh-types (too much curry powder taste). I prefer those with a good santan flavour and a little red chilli doesn't hurt in a good curry!

  9. I don't really fancy curry laksa but I don't mind eating it. Somehow the red one looks better.

  10. I actually like the first one - it looks more appealing to me, reddish. Haha!

    I don't mind either too though. :)
