MYR7 each

I like eating at this self-service air-conditioned "mix rice" (chap fan) eatery because I get to scoop as little rice as I like with no fear of too much rice and as much vegetables as I wish.

I am not sure how the price is calculated because each of my lunch meals below costs MYR7 even though the amount and type of dishes that I have selected are different.

Fried fish, little gem lettuce and lady fingers with rice - MYR7 for 3 dishes.

Chicken breast cooked in tomato sauce; pickled pineapple, cucumber, carrot, onion (acar); celery; watercress - MYR7 for 4 dishes.

Chicken breast cooked in tomato sauce; pickled cucumber, carrot, onion (acar); celery; stink beans (petai) with dry tofu strips; petola, mushroom - MYR7 for 5 dishes.

Store front - Mix Kafe (I guess it is called Mix because it serves mix rice)

    1. Good morning Princess Ribbon,

You are early as always. Other than that chap fan eatery is the only place where we can get to eat more vegetables as noodles and set meals provide less greens.

    2. I've same thought as Princess Ribbon, hahaha!! Because we go to the same cafe, it's good to have mix rice when I'm rushing!

  2. Usually, they cahrge according to the items - 1 meat, 2 veg...2 meat 1 veg...and all the possible combinations. Maybe fish is more expensive there.

    1. Agreed. Fish is definitely more expensive. But the 4 vege 1 meat price is also the same as 3 vege 1 meat price. So weird.

  3. I like, just because they have chicken breast option. Most chap farn that I encounter, hardly can find chicken breast in all their chicken dish.

    1. Really? Here, chicken breast meat is quite commonly available. Even if not as a whole it will be chicken breast meat in strips.

  4. ah, of course self-service is the best when it comes to economy rice.. I guess most are self-service now right?? just get how much (or how little) we like for our rice and dishes.. those that are still the boss taking the dishes for the customer are already outdated~~ :p

    1. Self service for getting the dishes but the rice is still scooped by the staff working at the stalls.

  5. ah, looks like flat rate at RM7 when you take 1 meat and 2-3 veggie huh?? or they don't actually charge you for the acar, or at least for regulars like you?? :)

    1. I don't think they even know that I am a regular. :) Flat rate MYR7? I am afraid of that so I don't dare to take less - if I take 2 vege and 1 piece of chicken and still get charged MYR7 then I will be so sad.

    1. Thanks for sharing. Yes, I know about that but never eaten there before. My mil says the chapfan there has a lot of MSG and that says a lot because my mil can eat very, very flavourful food but she also cannot stand the amount of MSG in the food.

  7. I like your servings, Mun.. less rice but lots of vege and one meat! Just what I love to have too! So your lunch meal is averagely RM7.. perhaps in Ipoh, we can get it for RM5.. :) Good taste, Mun!

    1. Good morning Claire,

Thanks! Do you usually eat chap fan for lunch too or mostly noodles?

  8. Looks like a good deal and you should go for more dishes like in the 3rd photo. The one I frequent is the normal open air one. The girl in-charge used to charge me about RM7 for one meat and 2 vege. Sometimes RM8.00. To be fair I do eat a lot. She is on maternity leave now and the guy who replaced her only charged me RM5.00 for the same thing.

  10. wa...so consistent RM7? haha...sounds like 6.99 shop pulak...
I would pick more greens too if I eat chap fan. When I m not in the mood for any meaty stuffs, I will pick tofu or eggs.
