Liew Kee Teluk Intan

From Bidor, we took the winding road to Teluk Intan as my mother has never seen the famous leaning tower. We saw many buildings being used to house swallows for their nests along the way. We did not know that Teluk Intan was that far away from Bidor and we only arrived there at 5.30pm.

Fresh warm authentic Liew Kee (Ah Lek) Teluk Intan Chee Cheong Fun - MYR4.40 per pack. I must say it tastes really good when it is eaten warm (in the car) albeit a bit on the salty side. This time I can taste the dried shrimps (hay bee) in the black bits. It is not that oily.

By using Google Map, we located the shop easily. The shop is operated from a double storey wooden house.

There I was, taking photos of the cooking process. Many people were there queuing and I had to wait for about 30 minutes before I was asked what I wanted. I thought there was only one kind of Chee Cheong Fun sold because the girl who took my order told me so but the customers behind me were buying packs with shrimp only, meat only and mixed and I don't see the people making it adding in any special processes when packing their orders so I am really confused now.

A tour guide was there collecting her order of 30 packs (ordered earlier over the phone) for the tourists who were all sitting in the big tour bus waiting for their tour guide to bring their food to them to be eaten on the bus. Business must be really good for this Chee Cheong Fun shop.

This "kitchen" is added on to the side of the wooden house and the staff worked like clock work.

We pointed out this famous leaning tower of Teluk Intan to my mother. There was no time for us to climb it so we drove back to Bidor to take the highway back to KL (because the other way takes even longer) and in the end, we did not reach Bidor but somehow (don't know how because we just followed the road signs), we joined the north south highway via Sungkai toll and reached KL at about 8.30pm.

I think it will be another year before any of us have the energy to do a day trip to Ipoh again.

  1. Hahaha, drive all the way to Anson to buy CCF. Yao qin tou! *thumbs up*
This is the kind of thing people (eg me) do when trying to kao lui. I once exited from Kampar, drive all the way to Tronoh (almost 2 hours) with a girl just so that she can buy a box of special soy sauce that she said can only be found there, then drive back out to Ipoh (another 1 hour plus) to rejoin the highway. She happily married with another guy now though..

  2. I love chee cheong fun! I am not good at making day trips and I would get car sick and tired. Most likely not able to enjoy the food either. But it is good that you got a good dose of Ipoh food. Maybe next time can stay longer.

  3. Ahhhh!!!! The famous landmark - the leaning tower. Wow!!! The CCF must be real good, all those people queuing for it - I see one non-Chinese some more. I don't like such places as people are usually curt, no time for you, no time for pleasantries...and at times, even rude. I'd rather go elsewhere and settle for something not as nice.

    1. You can call up to order first then only come to collect it so it will be very fast. No need to queue.

  7. I went there so many times cos my ex-boss was the MP who passed away recently in May. I didn't know all the places where good hawker food was sold but you found them all. Great!

The shop on the left from where you snapped the tower's photo is famous. They sell the best kacang tumbuk in the world! So fresh and crispy.

  8. Tiring but worthy drive. The learning tower is our cultural heritage.

Your mum must be happy to see the tower in real picture.

    Happy weekend, Mun!

  10. saw some CCF stalls here selling this type of Teluk Intan CCF, but then i never take those because cutting down on carbs mah, i usually just take those "liu" and no CCF when i go for CCF, hahaha.. hmmm, i guess must try one day lah, i mean when friends order that, i curi one piece to try and i think should be very nice.. just soy sauce and some sesame oil with pickled chili, yummy hor??

    1. Yes, now this type of Teluk Intan CCF can be found in KL but not as nice as this because they are not made on the spot. No need soy sauce, just pickled chili is yummy already but good to eat when warm. No as nice when cool.

  11. wow, gotta wait for 30 minutes only order taken?? and after taking your order, how long did you have to wait?? errr, that is really testing our patience lah, i think i wouldn't have had the patience to wait for that.. but surely very nice if so many people were willing to wait that long.. maybe they also lazy to explain they only have one type, and just let the customer request what she wants, but then just get her all the standard ones??

    1. Because the man was taking orders packet by packet from the customer in front of me and that customer ordered like 10 packets. When the man finally gave him the 10 packets that customer ordered again piecemeal by piecemeal like this one wants shrimp, that one don't want pork, this one mix until I hear also pening but that man very patiently says ok ok ok so I wonder whether he just gave the customer everything the same or not. Just say ok ok ok to appease the customer.

But once they have taken my order, then very fast they gave me the CCF.

I think it is like this because most people just call up to order and then come to collect so quite fast. So people who just walk up have to wait for their order to be taken.

    1. Oh I didn't get the number but you could go there to place your order and go climb the leaning tower then go and pick up your order. The shop is quite near the tower by car.
