You have to eat both layers at the same time to savour the rich taste of eggy sweetness with a tinge of coconutty saltiness. Once I bought a piece of Seri Muka from a stall by the roadside but it was not tasty because the green layer has a gluey taste. After that I became very choosy and will only buy nyonya kuih from tried and tasted (tested) places. Do you have a favourite nyonya kuih?
MYR2.4 for two pieces in a pack - bought from the Melaka Corner stall in One Utama. These reminds me of Seri Muka made by Aroma Nyonya that is very tasty.
This much smaller piece of Seri Muka (MYR1) is bought from Nyonya Colors and has a richer coconut milk taste. The blue colour in the bottom glutinous rice layer is from the flower (bunga telang) of the Clitoria ternatea plant (blue-pea plant). The brown piece of dessert next to it is Kole Kacang (MYR1).
This pack of Seri Muka (MYR2.60) is bought from Lulu Nyonya Kuih stall in Midvalley Megamall.
I like this dessert from this stall but for this particular pack, the green layer is too soft and the taste of egg is too strong until eating it gives me the shivers.
Just look at the sagging green layer.
I like that one with blue glutinous rice, dip with kaya, yummy!
ReplyDeleteThe name of that kuih is pulut tai tai. I like that one because we can control how much kaya to dip.
DeleteOh my, I love these kinda kuih too.. You know, at Midvalley, G floor, there are many carts selling kuih right, Nyonya kuih.. Wah, I can go crazy.. I will usually sapu ondeh-ondeh, kuih tayap, kuih lapis and those fried balls with peanuts (or red bean) inside.. Really sedap !
ReplyDeleteI know the stall. It is Lulu Nyonya stall.
DeleteI dont really fancy this type of kuih. Not a kuih person actually.
ReplyDeleteGood for you then because you can use the saved quota to eat other sweet or fried food.
DeleteI hardly buy kuih myself, usually like this type, I just eat whatever my mom bought!!! =]
ReplyDeleteSo do you have a favourite kuih?
DeleteIf really have to make one, then will be curry puff then!!! =]
DeleteBut curry puff is not considered as a nyonya kuih, hehehe.
