McD Blueberry Pie

My friend wanted a fast food fix for lunch so I accompanied her to McD with the intention of buying one single cheese burger at MYR3 for myself and so I did. Then I saw the poster - Blueberry Pie and I thought of Nux V and I could not help myself but to order one to try knowing full well what I thought of McD Taro Pie.

Blueberry Pie - MYR2.50++ = MYR2.65

It is like eating concentrated ribena jelly / jam (I know ribena is blackcurrant and not blueberry) and I am not used to it but I finish eating it. Surprisingly it is not cloying though it is sweet. Anyone here tried this before? Like it or Hate it?

Chocolate Brulèe

Celebrated a friend's birthday at Secret Recipe. We ordered slices of cake to share - 4 slices shared among 7 persons because everyone is watching their weight.

This is their latest creation - Chocolate Brulèe (I think the price is about MYR10 ish for a slice). They described it as:

"A delightful chocolate-centric vanilla crème brulèe treat set in three distinctive layers of mud
cake, brulee and couverture chocolate mousse topped with a thin chocolate glaze. Enjoy this silky smooth creamy brulee with bittersweet notes on crisped croquantine base."

I had to look up the words couverture and croquantine as I am no cake expert. The mud chocolate layer is very chocolaty so I like it but I am not very fond of mousse although the combination of the 3 textures here seems to work.

We love to eat strawberries so the other type of cake we ordered was this strawberry vanilla cake. I think it costs about MYR10 for a slice and I can't remember the exact name for it. My only complaint about it is that it has way too much cream for my liking.

All in all, a good birthday celebration.

Deconstruct

I was not hungry but wanted something light to eat with vegetables and protein so I settled for this Toasted Bun with Rendang Chicken - MYR5.50 at Hailam Kopitiam. As I really did not know what to expect for the chicken rendang, I requested for the rendang sauce to be served separately.

The rendang sauce was served separately as requested.

Vegetables - tomato, cucumber, lettuce

Protein - Strips of Chicken meat

Close up of the chicken meat

Would you order a bun like this for MYR5.50++?

Traditional Recipe Restaurant

Siew Yoke Mui Choy Chung - MYR6.80 with a whole salted egg yolk. I like to eat glutinous rice so this tastes fine to me although the rice that came into contact with the fatty bits of the pork is quite oily and I had to pick out all the fatty bits carefully before eating the dumpling.

This is the picture on the menu. There are other types of dumplings sold too so next time I know where to go for a dumpling fix.

This place also sells pan mee - MYR7.80 (small portion). There is a 5% service charge on the bill when we paid it.

They also sell savoury tau fu fa so I will be back to try it. They are located at 6, Jalan Kuchai Maju 19, Off Jalan Kuchai Lama.

Killer Gourmet Burgers

I passed by this eatery yesterday and saw that all the seats were occupied so I bought 2 burgers as takeaways for the 4 of us to try at home. Finally, a gourmet burger joint at a mall near my place. I wanted to try myBurgerLab and Burgertory too but their locations are not convenient for me.

1. KGB Spiked - MYR15.90 - Crust Seared Beef, Sharp Cheddar, Crispy Beef Bacon, KGB Spicy Sauce. I find the crispy beef bacon to be very salty and there is a strong black pepper taste.

2. Truffle'd Swiss Mushroom - MYR20.90 - Grilled Beef, Sauteed Portobello Mushrooms, Swiss Cheese, Truffle Infusion, Herbed Ranch. As expected, there is a very strong mushroom taste which I like. I prefer the taste of this burger to the other one I bought.

Prices are nett and they have chicken and vegetarian burgers too. I will be back to try their specialty fries such as Kimchi Fries (with Bulgogi Beef) at MYR13.90 and Texas Jalapeno Steak & Cheese Fries (Beef/Chicken) at MYR14.90 a serving.

They highlight that their beef used is 100% steak grade (Australian Grass Fed) on their menu. There are some interesting drinks such as Salted Caramel Pralines Milkshakes and Nutella S'mores (marshmallows) Milkshakes at MYR11.90 each but I don't think I can handle a milkshake with a burger, not even on a sharing basis so maybe one item at a time in the future.

Don't be fooled by this photo that was taken when the eatery was not open yet. The seats are usually fully occupied during meal times on weekends and pubic holidays.
