Happy Mid-Autumn Festival

I did not buy any mooncakes last year and I don't want to buy any this year too.

But when I went to Bake Plan to buy a golden lava croissant, I saw these cute but expensive moon cakes selling at MYR6+ each so I bought three of them at a total of MYR19.10 nett after adding in the 6% GST. All of them have a small piece of salted egg yolk in them.

Cross section view. I bought one white lotus and another one with lotus paste fillings. Tastes fine, too small for me to taste it in depth and I can't afford to buy more of them.

The 3rd one has red bean paste fillings.

Here's wishing Happy Mid-Autumn Festival to everyone who is celebrating it!

  1. Earlier on, my eyes spied HK mooncakes at £35 for 4. I saw some fruit snowskin mooncakes from HK at £23 for 4 made from white beans. No thanks!

I then settled for a mini lotus mooncake, locally made. It was horrible! That was my sugar fix😳 and mooncake for the year.

Earlier in the month, I had planned to make my first mooncake but I have too much on my plate.

Wishing your family and you a Happy Mid-Autumn Festival.

    1. Thank you! When I was living in UK I didn't eat mooncakes at all. So expensive!

  2. I bought two days ago for my parents, low sugar white lotus...around RM20 or RM21, can't remember. Didn't bother buying any for myself, too expensive. Then I dropped by the supermarket at the mall near my house yesterday evening...and I saw the same ones, same brand selling for RM18 only! I just can't resist bargains and the box was so very nice...I just had to grab it.

  3. I have an issue with so much kuaci inside the lotus one... Apart from that, these flaky ones are quite nice to eat. Sometimes eating those traditional ones with thin skin is basically just eating the filling paste. These flaky ones have much less filling to skin ratio and some more with that big yolk inside.

    1. I like the kuaci. You are right about the paste being more than skin for traditional mooncakes.

Mooncakes no longer that cheap nowadays. And so many varieties and flavours to choose from. Sigh!

  5. Waaah! Your moon cake fillings are tasty with the big yolk! The inflation has made the moon cakes so expensive. When my wife made them, her costs was only RM2.50 each with yolks.

Happy Mid Autumn Festival to you!

I don't celebrate this year but was lucky to receive few boxes of lovely moon cakes that could last me for few months!
