Fish Thai Laksa

Last week, the dishes that we wanted to order were sold out so we went to Old Siam again this week to complete the mission.

Ordered two sets of Fish Thai Laksa - MYR12.90 (MYR14.36 after 6% GST and 5% service charge) each. The egg is not a salted egg despite having an orange yolk.

Fried fish which is not crunchy anymore and too little fish in the laksa curry although the curry is very creamy (lemak).

Khao Khai Palo (pork belly not pork knuckle as I thought before) - MYR12.90 (MYR14.36 after 6% GST and 5% service charge). Heart shaped rice with red chilies for eyes and green coriander as the mouth.

Orange yolk not-salted egg again. The braised pork belly is not as flavourful as we expected it to be. Light soy sauce with a tinge of sweetness.

We ordered a bowl of red rubies again (Thab Thim Krob) - MYR7.90 (MYR8.79 after GST 6% and service charge 5%) at Old Siam at One Utama Shopping Mall.

  1. The Thai Fish Laksa looks very delicious and together with the red rubies will make a very satisfying meal for me.

    1. Not much fish so just eat the curry gravy.

  2. Interesting! I've seen that before - the noodles being "pre-rolled" into bite-sized pieces, but I forgot where. I did know I had it with my better half though, but definitely not at this place.

Oh, we also had the red rubies thing when we had Thai last week. Haha.

This place looks more promising, at least it's not halal.

    1. No idea what eggs those are. You can shaped your rice to be like this since you like it. :)

  5. That fried fish is a bit like salted fish, is it? I've seen those at many Malay rice stalls. I think I'd want the red rubies only! ;D

  8. I like the red rubies dessert. As for laksa, if it is too lemak, I won't enjoy it. I would prefer the pork but then you said it is not as flavorful as expected :(

  9. I would love to try the laksa...but not the pork. Looks like our regular soy sauce pork. Never tried that dessert as I would go for the mango pulut everytime. Dunno if I would love this as much.

  10. I read somewhere that the redder the yolk, the better quality the egg. Those pale yellow ones aren't good.

They did make the effort on presentation for that heart-shaped rice!

    1. I think depends on what the hen ate before laying its eggs. Children would like the presentation.

  16. The food made me drool at this hour and I am still awake.
I saw the Thai Laksa and could tell that it should taste good from its colour and ingredients. I wanted to cry thinking of my mother who made Thai Laksa every Chinese New Year for many decades until she was bedridden. All the silly mourners who showed up at her funeral whispered, "I will is your Thai Laksa"
She was such a fantastic cook that she also cooked for Tunku Abdul Rahman whenever he requested her one particular food. I am still waiting to find the old photos of them to blog about it.
