Mix & Match Set

I know I said I did not want to visit this conveyor sushi belt chain ever again because the food is not to my liking but recently I read some online reviews that mentioned that the chain has revamped the menu and the food is better now so I decided to give this another try. Well I believe everyone or every restaurant deserves a 2nd chance.

Their Mix and Match Set was given a good review so I decided to try it. Pick any 2 dishes for MYR14.90 or any 3 dishes for MYR21.50 - after we have ordered we found out that the prices are different for different combinations but the prices are roughly around the stated price.

Mix and Match Set 1: Salmon Zuke Don, Tempura Udon, Mentai Gohan. All small portions. MYR23.70 (inclusive of 10% service charge and 6% GST).

Salmon Zuke Don - Sashimi salmon slices marinated in yuzu (a citrus fruit) juice - the taste is more sweet than sour. I find this dish to be appetising due to the yuzu juice.

Tempura Udon - The single prawn tempura is crispy and the udon is chewy. Quite all right.

Mentai Gohan - This dish is the favourite dish of the online review that I read so I have high expectation of it. The mentaiko (fish roe) has a very slight hot and spicy taste. Those who like to eat crispy seaweed and mentaiko would like this dish that is a bit on the salty side.

Mix and Match Set 2: Saba Kabayaki, Miso Soup and Chawanmushi, Half Salmon Steak - MYR21.30 (inclusive of 10% service charge and 6% GST).

Saba Kabayaki - Small piece of saba drenched in Kabayaki sauce (sweet soy sauce). Good for those who love sweet sauce and are indifferent to the saba.

Half salmon steak - this salmon is also for those who are indifferent to salmon.

Miso soup and chawanmushi - passable.

This is our order

Now this chain is also using electronic devices (tablets) for their customers to enter the orders. We did not order anything from this page.

We ordered two items from this page

The prices for the colour coded plates/items from the conveyor belt. We did not select any item from the conveyor belt.

Sausage sushi anyone?

This outlet is at the Mines Shopping Center

  1. Not a fan of the outlet here. Waited for over 2 hours for our a la carte orders...and 3 hours after we left the place, plus it wasn't cheap. I can jolly well live without this kind of torture! Once is already one time too many! :(

  2. Haha, even with their revamped menu, I still find it hard to get motivated to come to this chain. The only times I come is when the friends/colleagues want to come and I just follow..

    1. You did not persuade your friends/colleagues not to go to this place?

    2. I tried before, and gave up... Penangites especially, I think they love this place because it is slightly cheaper compared to Sakae or Sushi Tei, and they think the food is similar quality... *scratch head*

    3. Guess they are just going for value for money and not for taste.

    1. There are some really good sushi outlets (not this chain, other chains). Don't think so.

  15. Sakae Sushi overtook them in many areas including the tablet menus. Now Sushi King must be making a comeback. I will go and check it out.
