Back for more

The previous Monday was a Public Holiday so we went to Ticklish at the Gardens Mall for their Monday special which is pork coated with salted egg yolk. We ordered half a portion of pork ribs (3 pieces) coated with salted egg yolk and half a portion of spicy pork ribs (3 pieces) at MYR25.30 nett for each half portion. Very tasty as before with the tender meat falling off the bones and with the full flavour of salted egg yolk. Definitely a must eat for salted egg yolk fans. It would be nice if they make this salted egg yolk pork dish a regular in their menu so that fans can order it any day instead of having to wait for Monday.

We also ordered pork chop coated with salted egg yolk with rice at MYR26.40 nett after including the 10% service charge. There is a side of salad to go with it.

As with the pork ribs, the taste of the salted egg yolk is strong and very tasty with curry leaves taste added to the batter but the pork chop is a bit thin as can be seen from the photo above.

This dish is named "SSShock Sendiri" - battered lean pork with a little bit of spicy, sweet and salty sauce - at MYR22 nett. We had it with rice. The pork is quite thin too like the pork chop. The rice is soft and a bit sticky like Japanese rice which we enjoyed eating very much. For this dish, there was no salad provided. I only thought of this now while writing this post. Maybe next time I will ask them about this if I get a dish with salad and a dish without salad.

"Lazy Bones" - MYR30 nett. Basically this is the meat from the pork ribs which they stripped from the bones so that it is convenient for those who wants to eat the pork ribs but find it too difficult to eat it from the bones. We ordered pasta to go with it. A side of salad is provided for this dish too.

Total bill is MYR143 nett which is still lower than the price of a hotel buffet meal for one pax and all four of us are full. Perhaps it is because we are small eaters. For drinks, we ordered 2 cups of green tea at MYR5.50 nett each.

After eating both pork chops and pork ribs, we find that for better value, it is better to go for the pork ribs although the pork chop has a lower price. This is because the pork ribs are meatier than the pork chops. Maybe we will eat here again next year.

Lejen

Still thinking about PH's post about the delicious coconut shake and deep fried fish, we went to the "Nasi Kukus Lejen @ Damansara Utama" again.

Part of the food and drinks that we ordered. We did not expect the fresh coconut water/juice (MYR4 nett per mug) to be served in these mugs as the banner shows a whole fresh coconut that was cut open with the straw sticking out of it. We discover that syrup was added to the fresh coconut water as it was way too sweet. The coconut shake costs MYR3.50 nett and was very sweet as well, a bit too sweet for my liking.

Ayam Berempah (deep fried chicken coated with spices) - MYR6.50 nett with rice, pickled pineapples slices, deep fried anchovies and curry gravy. We did not choose the part of the chicken meat ourselves and were given a piece of chicken breast. We also asked for the sambal belacan to be served separately as PH mentioned that it was very hot, hot, hot spicy (as can be seen in Photo 1 above).

A similar order with chicken thigh this time. The rice is soft just the way we like it and the portion of rice is just nice for a small eater. Definitely won't be enough to fill a big eater.

I asked for ikan tongkol (tuna fish) as I saw it listed on the menu but it was not available so I settled for the deep fried catfish (MYR6.50 nett). Unfortunately the deep fried catfish has been sitting in the tray at the counter top for too long and was no longer crispy so the lesson here is if the deep fried catfish is not just out of the hot oil, don't order it because it is soggy and taste too fishy.

We  were misled by this fresh coconut juice banner to think that a whole coconut would be served instead of the mug of coconut juice that we got.

Total price is MYR31 nett. Can be considered a value eat if one is not too fussy.

Sake Set

Sake (Salmon) set at MYR30++ with 5% service charge and 6% GST totaling MYR33.40 nett. A cup of refillable green tea is MYR1++ (MYR1.10 nett). Tasty meal with miso soup, salmon shioyaki (salt grill), rice, pickled daikon, a small cube of tofu, lettuce and 3 gyozas.

All 3 of us ate the same food. When you visit this restaurant in the above condo at Taman Desa, just let the security guards know that you are there for the Japanese restaurant and they will let you in with a card to put in your car that says "Restaurant Visitor".

Special December Food

For the month of November 2016, Nana's special food is Shogayaki Chicken at MYR21.60 nett. For this month, it is Chicken Katsu Don at the same price.

A closer look - I guess everyone is familiar with chicken katsu because I believe it is almost like deep fried deboned chicken chop. Here they serve it with scrambled egg, millet rice and mushrooms.

Dec Special Sweets

Nana's Green Tea's Special Sweets for December 2016 which is based on berries with drinks based on white bean.

Matcha Chiffon & Berry Parfait (MYR25.90 nett) and Berry Chocolate Hot Cake (MYR20.60 nett). 

White Bean Sweet Soup with Matcha - Hot or Cold (MYR16.90 nett each). I am not familiar with white bean so I look them up and it seems that white beans are also known as lima or butter beans which I am also not familiar with so I wonder how do they taste like.
