Sorbet summer berries

This sorbet is dairy free and taste like berries so it is tasty but is a bit too sweet for me so I gave half to my friend. Suitable for vegetarians. I forgot how much it costs.

Childhood and Beauty

This kiosk at the Gardens Mall sells all sorts of items from the childhood of those born in the 1960s. I believe it is an outlet of a similar kiosk in MyTown Mall.

Beauty in a Pot steamboat has opened for business in the Gardens Mall. It is located next to Rakuzen. I wonder who chose the colour scheme and do the branch in Genting Highlands and the main store in Sg use this colour scheme as well.

The soft opening was on 8 Nov 2019 (Friday).

Bye Nyonya Leaf

One day when we were at Midvalley Mall, we wanted to eat Nasi Lemak at Nyonya Leaf so we walked there and to our horror, the shop lot was all boarded up. Nyonya Leaf was located opposite Bee'ing and next to Aeon Big and a money changer.

Fire Tiger by Seoulcial Club is taking over the shop lot. Online search reveals that this is a bubble tea shop from Bangkok. Let's see how it looks like later when it opens for business.

Soyya Softserve Cone

Soyya Softserve Cone at MYR 7.50 nett. This is dairy-free (unknown left a comment saying that it is not dairy-free so I have to ask the Soyya staff next time and update here with their reply - on 24 July 2020 Fri, I asked the staff and they confirmed that two of the products contain dairy and one of them is this soft serve so unknown is correct so thanks to unknown, now we know why this soft serve tastes like milk and it confirms that my friend is a milk detector) but my friend says that it tastes of milk and butter so this is not for those who cannot stand the taste of dairy products. I wonder why they tweaked the taste to be like dairy when they are dairy-free. I prefer that there is no dairy taste for soy softserve so I don't think I will eat this Soyya softserve again. I don't think it is right to mix dairy into this soyya softserve because it is supposed to cater for people who likes to eat softserve but cannot take dairy. People who can take dairy have so much choices for softserve that they don't need to eat this. The products people of soyya must be missing the plot.

Soyya next to Isaac Toast (Gardens Mall). Soyya which sells a variety of soy based drinks took over the space that used to be occupied by a Juice operator. It has a small dining area next to it which I utilised while eating the soy soft serve.

Soyya kiosk even installed these three futuristic looking three cylinders filled with soy beans with back lighting as decorations to attract customers.

WG Soy Meat

Whenever we eat lunch at SkyHaus, Taman Mayang, PJ, I would order Nasi Lemak because it is good value for money and tastes good. This time, I did not bring a container to keep the sambal of the nasi lemak so I decided to order some other rice dishes. Which rice dish would you order from these 2-pages rice menu?

After looking through the 11 rice dishes, I decided to order the dish shown on the lower left corner of the above menu page - Vegetarian Sweet and Sour Rice at MYR 9.50 nett.

Does the dish look like the picture on the menu? My friend gave me all her garlic bread from her borsch soup. I kept half the dish above for dinner.

There are 6 pieces of sweet and sour soy meat. I was surprised to see that there are two parts in one cube of soy meat - the top part is whitish in colour to represent the fatty part of pork and the bottom part has meat-like texture but they are all made from soy. Taste is acceptable but you won't be fooled into thinking that they are meat.

For Nov 2019, they are having a promotion where every MYR 20 spent will be entitled to a scoop of ice cream worth MYR 12.50 nett. My friend does not eat ice cream so I ate the whole one scoop of elderberry ice cream which I chose because they told me that it has a tinge of sour taste which it has only a very faint sour taste. Elderberry ice cream tastes nice.

Total bill for 2 pax is MYR 30.90 nett with a free scoop of ice cream worth MYR 12.50 nett.

WG Chicken Sliders

In Nov 2017, I ate pork burger set at Uncle Don's, SS2, PJ. This time, I did not order a set lunch but from the ala carte menu - Chicken Sliders at MYR 9.80+ (6% SST = MYR 10.40 nett).

Fried egg and chicken patty. The chicken patty is almost like luncheon meat, with no chicken meat texture so I won't order this dish again.

Total bill for 5 pax = MYR 67.30 nett.

My friend's nasi lemak chicken rendang set at MYR 14.80+ (MYR 15.70 nett).

This looks like rice but it is Uncle Don's Spicy Fried Maggi Mee set at MYR 12.80+ (MYR 13.60 nett). My friend likes this dish very much.

Two of my friends gave me the ice cream from their set lunches. Yummy! Strawberry flavour!

No added sugar

I bought this pack of 1 Litre "So Good Almond Milk" unsweetened with No Added Sugar from Village Grocer, MyTown Mall and could not remember the price. An online search found that Jaya Grocer sells this 1 Litre pack at MYR 9.90 nett. Affordable price or not? 

Ground Almonds is only 2.5% so I think it is better just to eat the almonds but this is a good substitute for milk and soy milk. It tastes rather nice to me but others may not agree with my opinion because my friend describes it as having a rather flat "cardboard" taste. No harm buying one pack to test for yourself. I may try other brands before getting back to this one if this tastes the best.

WS Tokyo Secret Ice Cream

This is the all weekday set menu for the whole of October 2019 by Tokyo Secret, Midvalley Mall. I have ordered from their September 2019 set menu. The 50% off a scoop of Hokkaido Milk Ice Cream caught my eyes so I ordered that after having a dish from the set menu.

Hokkaido Milk Ice Cream at 50% off so after this discount, the price is MYR 4.45++ (10% service charge and 6% SST = MYR 5.16 nett). This ice cream is truly very milky so for those people who cannot stand the taste of dairy, please stay away.

My order: Fettuccine Vegetarian set which includes a glass of ice lemon tea at MYR 15.90++ (MYR 18.45 nett). The fettuccine does not taste like the pasta that I am used to eating. It taste more like flat noodles made from soy but it is delicious nevertheless. The portion is small so I could finish it and I like the substantial amount of baby tomatoes and capsicums in this dish. Will order this dish again.

My friend's set: Teriyaki Salmon with Garlic Fried Rice set at MYR 21.90++ (MYR 25.40 nett) which includes a glass of lemon tea that my friend requested to be hot instead of iced. Decent enough.

Total price for 2 pax: MYR 49 nett. I wonder how their Nov 2019 set menu would look like since food here is quite tasty.

WS Nasi Lemak Lah

My order: Nasi Lemak Mutton Curry - MYR 15.90 nett. Barley drink at MYR 3.50 nett. My total lunch costs MYR 19.40 nett. They have two versions of sambal - spicy and not that spicy. All of us chose the spicy ones because the not-that-spicy sambal is sweet rather than salty as told to us. Quite a decent nasi lemak. I find a few pieces of Star Anise in the mutton curry which I accidentally chewed and had to spit out which is quite troublesome. The mutton is tender enough but the curry is heavy with the taste of Star Anise which some people may not like. The plate has rattan patterns printed on it to pretend to be a rattan plate.

My friends said that the Ayam Goreng Serai tastes very good, as good as the fried chicken at the popular Village Park Nasi Lemak at Damansara Uptown so if they eat here again, I may order the fried chicken nasi lemak. Total bill for 4 plates of nasi lemak is MYR 60.10 nett so it is about MYR 15 each on average.

Nasi Lemak Lah at SS2, PJ has taken over the shop that used to house Crab Factory which I have been to 3 times in all the years that it operated there since 2014.

The interior layout is the same but they have redone the cladding and furnishing.

They even have a green wall, though I am not sure whether the plants are real or fake. If my friends eat here again, I will go and touch the plants to see if they are real or not.

Roasted Black Soldier Fly

Ban Heang also has its own mung bean biscuits/pastry but I still prefer those from Him Heang and Ghee Hiang.

It seems that Black soldier fly larvae is a great source of protein and has a small environmental footprint so we should be eating these instead of pork, beef, mutton and chicken to get our protein but I don't dare to try. Do you dare?

Nov19 Midvalley Update

Loong Kee now occupies the space vacated by Damansara Uptown stall in Popcorn Food court, Midvalley Mall.

The stall next to it which used to sell Korean food is still vacant.

Loong Kee sells Hokkien Mee just like Damansara Uptown stall.

On a different topic, I managed to buy the pandan layer cake through the contact details on fb and it tastes good, just like what Golden Bake, SS2 used to sell. Next time I will buy this again when I crave for pandan layer cake.
