McD Chocolate Pie

McD Chocolate Pie and Spicy Korean Burger (Beef or Chicken). I chose the Beef version.

Crispy Chocolate Pastry and Molten Lava Chocolate Filling when it is warm. I love its rich dark chocolate with a hint of bitter taste so I am going to buy it again. Overall it is not very sweet and costs MYR 3.95 nett.

When it cools down, the chocolate fillings solidify so if you don't like the fillings to be "molten lava", you can wait for about 1 hour before eating it. It tastes just as good.

Spicy Burger Set with Large Fries and a Large Glass of Fanta Grape McFreeze at MYR 17.60 nett. I gave away the glass of frozen drink but finished the fries in two sittings just because I like to eat potatoes.

The sause is not red in colour but it is spicy and the product description mentioned "kimchi-seasoned beef patty" so this burger is indeed spicy to a certain level but not that very spicy until I could not stand it.

Total price is MYR 21.55 nett - bought using an automated kiosk at MyTown Mall.

The previous week, I ate quite a number of food items at McD too:

This is because I use the McD mobile app which gives me an electronic voucher to buy 6 pieces of chicken nuggets at just MYR 1 nett with any purchase so I bought a mix-and-match set at MYR 6 nett by selecting one cheese burger and one apple pie. I used to go for one cheese burger and one medium fries for the mix-and-match set but after thinking about it, an apple pie gives more value for money.

Then with the same McD mobile app, I could redeem two durian McFlurry at MYR 8.95 nett so I gave one to my friend. Taste authentic!

Then for dinner, we bought a takeaway chicken rice set with ice lemon tea, coleslaw and 2 pieces of fried chicken at MYR 16.95 nett to be shared by 2 pax.

Top view. As my weak teeth could not chew all the crunchy raw vegetables (carrots, purple cabbage) properly, my friend ate all of it.

Using the same McD mobile app, I redeemed one piece of spicy fried chicken wing at MYR 1 nett with this chicken rice set purchase. Sad to say, this piece of chicken wing flew from my hand onto the floor at home but after cleaning it and removing the outer layer, I ate it anyway and live to tell the tale.

WG Lost it

I happened to be in the area of the A&W in PJ so we dropped by for lunch. As usual I had the set of beef coney bun with curly fries and since I chose to have curly fries it means I get a large glass of  root beer at MYR 14.25+ (6% SST = MYR 15.10 nett). A regular set with regular fries costs MYR 12.80+ (MYR 13.57 nett). I chose to add a single scoop of ice cream to the root beer by topping up MYR 1.35+ (MYR1.43 nett) to get a glass of root beer float so my set costs a total of MYR 16.53 nett.

The curly fries are tasty but I find it too flavourful. There are some chewy bits in the beef sausage that I had to spit out. The root beer drink was not cold enough so this meal was a less satisfying experience than the previous occasion.

Total Bill for 2 pax is MYR 30.15 nett.

The A&W branch in PJ that I am glad to know that it is still around.

Next time, I think I will just have a regular root beer with double scoop of ice cream at MYR 5.65+ (MYR 6 nett) to see if I find it satisfying.

Fatty Surprise

On CNY Day 3 (18 Feb 2018, Sunday), we planned to eat brunch at Pho Vietz, Sri Petaling. Normally all car parking lots would be fully occupied on a Sunday but due to CNY, there were plenty of available spots for us to park our car. We reached there at 10.30 am to find that we were 30 minutes before opening time so we decided to walk around the area until 11 am.

To our delight, we discovered that A&W has opened a branch here. It was a nice surprise because there are no branches in any of the malls that I frequent so I thought they are no longer available in KL and I like to eat coney sausage roll and drink root beer float when I was a child and I still do. So for old times sake, we changed our plan.

My favourite coney beef sausage roll. I did not choose to add cheese (need to top up the price). 

A set meal of beef coney. I chose curly fries and it is included only in the large sets so I was given a large rootbeer drink. I changed the drink to root beer float by adding two scoops of vanilla ice cream at a price of MYR 2.20 nett. So the large set at MYR 15.05 nett was upgraded to MYR 17.25 nett. I also ordered 2 pieces chicken ala carte at MYR 10.25 nett with one original flavour and one spicy flavour.

I did not taste the chicken but we shared the sausage and drink. It was a satisfying brunch despite the high calories.

Total Price for 2 pax is MYR 27.50 nett.

Pie mistakes

When I was buying the nuggets, I noticed the spinach pie and lychee pie on the menu and just because I ate the taro pie and blueberry pie before, I bought these two new pies too despite knowing full well that I don't like the oily taste of these deep fried pies. I just took one bite of each pie to taste them and then shared the rest of the pies with my family.

Which is which? Eat both at once so it doesn't matter.

Lychee pie - MYR2.60 nett - tastes quite like lychee. As lychees do not have a strong taste, this pie is just another pleasantly mildly sweet pie.

Spinach pie - MYR2.95 nett - gooey fillings with a strangely artificial butter taste to it. I do not like the taste of this pie at all although spinach is one of my favourite vegetables. 

New sauce

I read so much about these two new sauces that even though I don't like to dip my food into sauces I went and bought a box of 9 nuggets (ala carte MYR9.80 nett) just so that I could try out the French cheese sauce and Honey mustard sauce. A case of herd mentality perhaps?

The Honey mustard sauce tastes to me like some kind of mayonnaise sauce because it is sweet and the French cheese sauce just tastes like well, cheese sauce. So I just ate one nugget to test both sauces and shared the rest of the nuggets and sauces with my family.

I prefer eating the nuggets with this yellow mustard sauce instead.

Buy 1 Get 1 Free

I saw this offer a few days ago and planned to buy the fish fillet burger because when I was young I liked eating it. So today, I bought 2 fish fillet burgers for MYR6.45 after 6% govt. tax. Just for comparison, the lunch value set for a regular drink, fries and 1 fish fillet burger costs MYR7.95 but I don't want the soft drink and fries so this offer is just nice for me. This promotion starts today and will go on until 30 November from 11am to 4am.

I think it has been a few years that I have not eaten this burger. Luckily they did not put too much tartar sauce. I ate one for lunch and the other one just before I went to take the train home. Somehow it just did not taste as good as I remember it.

I added in a slice of wholemeal bread because I find the burger too flavourful so I need to balance it with a slice of wholemeal bread.

Fast Food

There was a day I just ate fast food for both lunch and dinner after not eating fast food for a long time. Burger King was having this "get one free Chick 'N Crisp when you purchase a medium drink" promotion so I bought two drinks at MYR3.75 nett each and got two chicken burgers.

The Burger King chicken burger tastes like KFC colonel burger and is a bit bigger than colonel burger but smaller than KFC fish fillet burger. As I don't drink soft drinks, I have given them away.

Then I bought one KFC fish fillet burger ala carte at MYR6.95 (MYR7.35 after gov. tax) and got another one free. The KFC fish fillet burger is bigger than Mcd fish fillet burger and tastes about the same. I guess the fast food chains are trying to out do each other now.
