Small Yam

On Monday 22.aug.22, went to drop off some things at a friend's place so went to Giant supermarket to buy groceries.

Small yam - I used to eat these small yams during mooncake festival.

I steamed them for too long until they were very soft. They literally melted in my mouth so i find them nice to eat.

Bought two seedless guard.

His lunch and dinner of braised pork knuckle rice.

This price is a bit better than the walk-in price of MYR 14.90 nett.

Also bought Anlene gold via pandamart delivery.

Bidor Veggie Kitchen

On Thursday 11.nov.21, he went to the nearby wet market to buy 2 packs of red malabar spinach at MYR 3 nett per pack because his father wants to eat them. He also bought radish and carrots to add to the remaining lunch dishes from the previous day. Then he went over to cook lunch and ate together with them.

Meanwhile I felt like eating yam basket so I ordered it from a vegetarian eatery.

2 pm - lotus root slices and very few lily bulbs stir fry with nam Yu.

2.07 pm - deep fried yam basket and deep fried Mee hoon. The gravy and fillings are in a separate pack.

2.23 pm - my lunch of some yam basket and lotus roots.

6.33 pm - our shared dinner of rice and the remaining food from the vegetarian eatery.

Yam Braised Meat

On Wednesday 22.sep.21, we picked up our lunch order from Good Taste eatery on our way home.

12.04 noon - we haven't eaten this dish for a few years now so I was pleasantly surprised to see it being sold in Jazz Cafe Sri Petaling so we ordered it. The taste is decent so we will buy it again.

12.11 noon - very nice fruit rojak with pineapple, cucumber, papaya, jicama, and kedondong.  The sauce is provided in a small tub for us to add it to the rojak ourselves.

4.21 pm - early dinner of Mee jawa.

The gravy and fritters are packed separately.

Taste good but I wouldn't call it mee jawa because the gravy is not thick enough and it tastes sourish similar to assam gravy so we will not buy this dish again.

Lunch and dinner but kept one for next day breakfast.

Lunch from Mom

 My sister gave me a bento for lunch to avoid crowded lunch places. It contains brown rice four tablespoonfuls, steamed pumpkin and yam and bittergourd, boiled peanuts, one hard boiled egg and one taopok with mui choy. I don't like gravy so this style of food suits me perfectly.

In the morning, this is my share of mee hoon with texture like glass noodles in hot pepper soup with pork liver, stomach and meat for MYR 8 nett. I added some yong tofu (MYR 1.5 per piece) from another stall.

WG Wrap up lunch

Pork (Pai Kuat Wong) - medium portion - MYR 22 nett.

Mix vegetable - MYR 13 nett. My friend wanted to order the vege dish with lotus root as shown in our previous meal here back in 2017 but got this vege dish instead.

Tofu - MYR 20 nett.

Yam Basket - MYR 22 nett.

My very little rice.

A few scoops from each dish is enough for me.

Lunch for 5 pax at New Paris eatery at SS2, PJ before CNY. Total 96.50 so those who ordered drinks pay MYR 20.70 nett and those who did not pay MYR 17.20 nett. Quite a good price I would say.

Takeaway McD mix and match:

1. One chicken drumstick match with Apple Pie for MYR 6.50 nett

2. One cheese burger match with small fries for MYR 6 nett.

McD prosperity burgers only have chicken and fish. The beef patties for prosperity burgers are out of stock. I like buying McD mix and match because they are affordable and I don't want any drinks that are included in the value set.

WG Go 2 Pan Mee

Hakka Yam Abacus - MYR 8.50 nett. Tasty because can taste the yam since they do not use that much flour but more yam to make the abacus but oily though not as oily as this version sold here.

Kept half for dinner and my friend gave me her deep fried bean curd sheets and anchovies from her pan mee because she is having a sore throat so does not want to eat deep fried food items.

Total bill for 3 pax is MYR 24.50 nett.

McD Bubur Cha Cha

RG and Stacy told me about this McD pie in their comments for the McD Cendol Sundae so I went and tried it since the last pie I had was the Tropical Pie 4 months ago. The price for this pie is higher at MYR3.50 nett as compared to MYR2.90 nett for the tropical pie.

Bubur Cha Cha is a dessert where sweet potatoes cubes, yam cubes and sago are swimming in a sweet coconut milk broth so this pie is a simplified version of the dessert in pie form. A good attempt because the taste is somewhat there.

The fillings in this McD Bubur Cha Cha pie are yam or taro cubes coated in coconut milk sauce (santan). I find it rather dry because the coconut milk sauce is just enough to cover the yam cubes. The good thing is that this pie is full of yam cubes unlike in the previous pies where there are very few pieces of actual fruit and lots of gooey sauce. This time it is the opposite, no gooey sauce, just enough coconut milk sauce to cover many taro cubes and some may like it more because of this.

T2014 Da Jia Yam

The 2nd stall in FengJia Night Market (逢甲夜市) that we went to, is the Da Jia Yam stall (大甲芋頭城) which is located next to the Crispy Tofu eatery.  Da Jia is a district in Tai Chung that produces very tasty taro (yam) so this stall sells that taro with a few different type of ice shavings.

We ordered the taro with red bean shaved ice to share between the two of us. TWD45 which is about MYR5.40 nett. The few pieces of taro on top of the red bean were smooth and tasty.

BM Yam Rice

CNY Day 2: we went to Publika for an early lunch as the parking fee is a flat rate of MYR2 per entry during public holidays and weekends.

We ordered the BM Yam Rice with Pork Soup set meal (MYR10.90 nett) to share

I tried a bit of the coagulated pork blood this time - not much taste while I was chewing it but once I swallowed it, the aftertaste that hit me was bad, almost like smelly tofu (chow tofu). I like the sourish taste of this soup. This soup is very different from those pepper pork soup because it is sourish and not peppery.

Yam Cake

Steamed yam cake and steamed radish cake (1 piece - MYR1.50 each).so total is MYR3. There are many small cubes of Yam inside the yam cake.

Hakka Yam Abacus

We went to Soon Lei again for lunch and this time I ordered their homemade Hakka yam abacus - 'suan pan zi' (算盘子) in Mandarin.

MYR8.50 for the small portion

Stir fried with minced pork and lots of spring onions. I can detect the yam taste in the abacus.
