Must Eat Cakes

After reading PH's post about this promotion of buy 1 slice of cake get another slice for free, I quickly asked my co workers to have lunch at this restaurant yesterday. I selected a slice of raspberry cheese cake at MYR 12+ (10% service charge so it is MYR 13.20 nett) and the free cake I chose a slice of chocolate fudge cake. MYR 13.20 nett for two slices of cake is a good price.

3 of us ordered the value lunch set which includes soup, mains, dessert and hot/cold green tea for MYR 15.90 nett which is also a very good price. I went for the bacon pesto pasta. The server recommended that we upsize our pasta by adding MYR 4 nett but as all of us are small eaters, the small portion is fine for us so we did not take up his recommendation. The pesto pasta is very flavourful and tasty, My friend thinks so too after she ate a bit of the pesto pasta.

Complimentary soup and drink - very thick and rich pumpkin soup and a cup of hot green tea. Plain drinking water is also provided foc.

The complimentary dessert is vanilla ice cream with no selection of flavours so I ate my friend's ice cream as well since she does not eat ice creams.

Two friends did not order the value set but shared a big breakfast and took up the buy 1 get 1 free coffee promotion. In the end, they were too full to drink their coffee so they asked to take away and had to give 50 cents each for the take away cup.

The restaurant at Tropicana City Mall. I wonder whether the other outlet at Pavilion has this buy 1 get 1 free offer for cakes and coffee or not.

Pudu Chan Fatt

They were renovating their shop when I was there previously. Since I was around that area, I thought I would drop by just to try their special tasting sauce as mentioned by PH although I was not hungry and was planning to eat at another eatery at a later time.

Char Siew (BBQ pork) wanton noodle (dry) with wanton dumplings (3) in a small bowl of soup at MYR 7.50 nett. Pickled green chilies are a must for this dish. 

I agree with PH that the gravy/sauce for the noodles do not taste like the usual sauce but I find the taste acceptable. My friend said it tastes like it has balsamic vinegar in it and I think it could be some sort of seasoned vinegar. Both of us ruled out plum sauce as it does not taste like it has plum sauce. I also find that the taste of shallot oil is quite strong in the gravy/sauce.

Deep fried dumplings (4) - MYR 7.20 nett. A sweet chili dip is provided. They looked as though they have been refried as the colour is quite intense. The fillings taste ok, not too salty and I did not need to remove any fatty bits from the fillings as there were none.

Fried Lion Head Meatball (4) - MYR 7.20 nett. The chili dip  provided is different from the sweet chili dip for the fried dumplings. This chili dip is sourish. The meatballs were definitely refried or overfried.

The meatballs are dense with lean meat with chopped onions in them. A bit dry if eaten without the chili dip. I have forgotten to try the liver and pork sausages so I will need to return on another day for them.

McD Fish and Chips

There is a choice of 1 piece or 2 pieces of fish. I went for the 2 pieces of fish and chips set (MYR17.95 nett) that includes a soft drink which I changed to a cup of hot coffee by paying a top up of 50 cents.

Crispy batter with white flaky fish meat. Taste better than many of the fish and chips that I have eaten recently.

Penne

Penne Pasta with Beef Meatballs - MYR 15 nett - at Miss Molly. The portion is big so I kept half of it for dinner. It is quite tasty (a bit on the salty side) but I prefer this to the duck pasta. Penne is easier to handle than the long strands of spaghetti pasta. Initially I wanted macaroni but they ran out of it so Penne it is then.

No Meat Meal

My friend had this vegetarian meal at Nana Green Tea, Midvalley Mall. I can see tofu (beancurd, wong nga pak cabbage, broccoli and mushrooms (I think is bunashimeji mushrooms) but I won't order this meal because I don't like the brown gravy.

Ah Mah Traditional Egg Cake

Finally I got a chance to try this cake at MYR 13 nett. It has a stronger egg taste compared to the Original Cake but is not as light and not as fluffy. Since the price is lower, these differences can be overlooked. Definitely not the cake for those who do no like the taste of egg.

The Owls Cafe

After lunch at the Hailam Kopitiam, Jalil Link, we walked to The Owls Cafe to have dessert. Waffle with Earl Grey Tea Ice Cream, strawberries, blueberries and bananas at MYR18 nett. Both of us share this waffle so we managed to finish it. The taste of the Earl Grey Tea in the ice cream is quite strong.

Overflow

We wanted to eat at O&S coffee shop but it was full house with no empty seats to even share a table so we walked to Choon Prawn Mee House which is just a few shop lots away to have our breakfast there instead.

Mix (Prawn Mee broth mixed with Lor Mee broth) with Big Prawns and Pork Ribs at MYR 14.50 nett.

Basic Prawn Mee at MYR 8 nett.

My order - Chee Cheong Fun (Flat Rice Noodles) with Prawn Paste (Har Go) at MYR 6 nett because I was not that hungry so ccf is suitable for the portion is not big.

Kuey Teow Soup Noodle at MYR 8 nett. Let's just say that this is not their specialty and leave it at that.

A cup of Cam Si at MYR3 nett. Cam means Coffee mixed with Tea. Si means evaporated milk is added to the coffee and tea mix. 

Total Bill for 4 pax is MYR 39.50 nett so on average it was less than MY10 per person.

I wanted to try the burger here after my friend said that it was tasty so I had it on our next lunch there.

Pork Burger set - MYR14.85 nett which includes a drink (lemon tea - hot/cold) and a scoop of ice cream.

After removing the bun on top, I can see that there are a few slices of pork belly and 1 thin slice of cheese (which I have removed) on top of the pork patty.

Below the pork patty are layers of coleslaw, a fried egg, slices of cucumber and leaves of lettuces. After eating this burger, I agree with my friend that it is tasty and worth the price. 

My friend ordered the pasta set at the same price. She likes it too.

Tangkak Beef Cheras

Look at that tasty-looking cross section slices of beef shank (the two slices with "patterns" in the meat). They were very tender too - so delicious!

The size of the bowl is quite small (see spoon for comparison)

We were surprise to see how small this bowl of beef noodle was (MYR15.30 nett).

It was a regular portion.

We have been to the branch in Kuchai Lama. It seems that this branch near Cheras Leisure Mall serves better tasting beef noodles than the branch we have been to before.

Sold Out

Our favourite beef radish stew was sold out so we ordered a bowl of tendon at MYR 11.50 nett to share and I had a bowl of dry noodle without any minced pork at MYR 3.80 nett since I find the minced pork a tad too salty.
