Two Penang Kuey Teow Soup Noodles

On Sunday 7.jul.2024, we went out at 6.30 am which is very early for brunch after he read about two Penang kuey teow soup stalls in PJ Old Town.

Record of my topsy turvy sleep pattern:
Thursday night didn't sleep
Friday woke up at 6 am, slept at 5 am to 6 am, 4 pm to 9 pm
Saturday was up since Friday 9 pm so went to Pudu ICC at 7 am ish, slept at night from 9 pm to Sunday morning 4.30 am for 7.5 hours straight.
Sunday woke up at 4.30 am and went to PJ old town at 6.20 am ish.

Today at around 5 am it started raining. When we went out at 6.20 am ish, it was still drizzling. Being early on a Sunday means less traffic on the road and many available parking lots in PJ Old Town.

*** Soon Lee Coffee Shop Kuey Teow Th'ng ***

6.46 am - this coffee shop opens at 6 am so we went there early. We didn't see any chicken livers at the stall so we didn't ask the seller to add them. The soup tastes good. 2 of us shared one bowl of noodles.

6.50 am - his two soft boiled eggs and hot cham MYR 6 nett.

6.48 am - the stall is the 3rd stall from the right.

*** Hoong Jun coffee shop PJ State KT Th'ng ***

7.13 am - we walked about 3 mins to a nearby coffee shop to try the Penang style kuey teow th'ng of another stall which is popularly known as State Kuey Teow Th'ng. He added chicken hearts, livers and blood cubes so the total price is MYR 13 nett. Again, we shared one bowl of noodles. The chicken livers are very tender.

Verdict: both bowls of noodles are tasty so why not eat both if you happen to be in PJ Old Town. The noodles are not much so two persons can share two bowls.

7.09 am -  this is the State Kuey Teow Th'ng stall.

7.39 am - this is the Hoong Jun coffee shop with address: 64, Jalan 1/12, Seksyen 1, 46000 Petaling Jaya, Selangor. The stall is located in this coffee shop.

*** PJ Old Town ***

He read the article below 6 days ago so he wanted to try the noodles at both stalls.

7.45 am - the rain has stopped but the sky is still grey. The PJ Old Town sign is here. I wanted to eat cendol at Auntie Peggy stall 46 and Jessie's Cendol Stall no 48 nearby but it is too early and the stalls are either not opened or only opens at around 10 am so we went to have my favourite iced salted butter coffee at hou's kopitiam taman continental so that I can call it a day.

The PJ Old Town sign

7.41 am - plenty of available parking lots at PJ Old Town early this morning.

*** Hou's kopitiam taman continental ***

8.03 am - the food we ate for our 3rd stop:
Photos will be up the next day.
Luncheon meat egg toast 12.9
Crunchy chicken fillet 12.9
Iced salted butter coffee 5
Hot hainam coffee small cup 3
Total MYR 33.80 nett

Thus my omad is completed at 9 am.

Morning 43.15
Next morning 42.95

Publika Eat Food Village

10.38 am - we were at Publika on Tuesday, 16.mar.21 before we went to IPC for our errand. I have eaten brunch at home of remaining char kway teow in remaining curry gravy so we were looking for breakfast for him.

We walked to the Eat Food Village, the food court at Publika.

The food court has been refurbished since the last time I was here. Very few customers at 10.40 am.

Which stall to buy from?

A large food court.

Lee Narrow Street stall is chosen.

Lee Narrow Street 三间庄猪肉丸粉  is having a promotion until the end of March 2021. MYR 10 dishes are now having a price of MYR 8.50 nett so we ordered a set of 3jc Mee hoon for his dine-in brunch at MYR 8.50 nett.

He thinks that the oblong meat balls are a bit smaller than other places that sell 3jc noodles.

WG LaManila

My order - mushroom chicken wanton noodles at MYR 11.80 nett. The chicken broth is tasty but a bit too salty.

My friend's pasta at MYR 15 nett.

La Manila eatery at Taman Megah, PJ.

Shopfront - La Manila. I have been here a long long time ago for their cakes because their cakes are delicious! I read that the people behind Secret Recipe are related to the owner of La Manila, siblings perhaps. La Manila is way before Secret Recipe.

La Za Noodle

A bowl of La Za (dirty) noodles at MYR 19.90++ (10% service charge and 6% SST = MYR 23.10 nett). This "dirty" noodle originated from Hong Kong. "Dirty" because they put in big intestine which if not cleaned properly will be "dirty".

We also ordered HK Pork Liver Noodle from the chef recommended list at MYR 18.90++ (MYR 21.90 nett) but without the noodles. The waitress told us that the price would be the same even without the noodles which we already knew but it is good that the waitress ensure that we are clear about this point so that there is no dispute later when paying the bill.

The HK Pork Liver Noodle without the noodles look like this.

Total price for two pax is MYR 53.60 nett at HK Boy Cart Noodle, Pavilion.

One day for lunch, my friend suggested eating at HK Boy Cart Noodle at SS2, PJ. I ordered noodle with two toppings at MYR 11.90+ (10% service charge = MYR 13. I should have ordered Hor Fun or Mee Hoon because this yellow noodle has too much "Kan Sui" (alkaline taste) for me to handle.

My two toppings - Lemongrass Pork Chop is a must. I wanted Beef anything but did not want to add on MYR 3.90+ so had to choose the next best item which is Ginger Onion Pork Liver which is served separately in its own bowl.

Total bill for 3 main meals is MYR 58.40 nett.

All 3 of us made use of the drinks offer during weekdays from 12 noon to 3 pm to order a drink with our main meal at MYR 2+ (MYR 2.20 nett) only which is a very good price considering the drink costs MYR 6.90+ (normal price).

Kampar Noodle

This is what we usually eat at Friendship's Cafe for breakfast during one day of the weekend. This dish is known to us as Sam Kan Choong pork noodle (dry). I believe Sam Kan Choong is the name of a shop that specializes in this dish and we just use this likespecific shop name to refer to this dish like how we use the word Colgate when we just mean toothpaste. It costs MYR 7 nett. The flat rectangular white pork balls, minced pork and slices of big sausages are what make this Sam Kan Choong dish.

The Hainan Tea which tastes like coffee mixed with  costs stronger tea MYR 1.80 nett.

The stall has a new product and the lady seller kept asking us to try it so after saying no for a few weeks, we said yes because we were tired of saying no. The new dish is Kampar noodles at MYR 7 nett with various fish paste products as ingredients. Taste ok but we don't think we would order it again because we prefer the Sam Kan Choong pork dish.

For lunch, we shared one plate of nasi lemak chicken and iced cham at AMAH at The Sphere, Kerinchi/Bangsar South.

Total bill for two pax at MYR 17.50 nett.

Pork Chop Instant Noodle

Went to Honolulu Cafe at Midvalley Mall for egg tarts (MYR 2.95++ each so is MYR 3.42 nett after 10% service charge and 6% SST) but ordered instant noodles as well because I just can't resist instant noodles and a glass of iced cham at MYR 7.30++ (MYR 8.46 nett). We do not like this iced cham because we could not taste the coffee, just the diluted tea with sweet sugar, the milk taste is also quite weak.

Instant noodles with pork chop at MYR 13.80++ (MYR 16 nett). I like the instant noodles as always and the pork chop is thick and tender so I will order this dish again.

Total bill for two pax is MYR 29.70 nett.

We noticed this set lunch which is only available on weekdays looking very attractive. If ever we are there during weekday and want to have this kind of food, we may try this set lunch.

Seafood Pad Thai

Seafood Pad Thai at MYR 12.90 nett. Tasty because it has a lot of eggs and it is not too sweet.

I ordered a fresh coconut and after eating the flesh, I was full.

Krua Khao Hom at Kuchai Entrepreneur Park. It used to be Samet Thai and before that, Thai Kopitiam. This new eatery is a pork free shop.

PopCorn Ding Xiang

Pork Noodle at MYR 9.90 nett with liver, pork slices and intestines. The chilli dip is made from chilli, garlic and ginger I believe because it tastes like those chilli dip for chicken rice. The slices of pork are tasty and fresh. We selected mee hoon as the noodle and found that it is thick mee hoon.

Instead of Stall 12, they renamed the stall to stall 12A.

Standard pork noodle. One can select add-ons for a price.

The ala carte menu.

They even sell the chili sauce used by this stall.

Ding Xiang Sang Nyuk Noodle that replaced Siew Kei Pork Noodle at PopCorn Food Court.

After that we adjourned to Warung to drink a glass of nescafe tarik at MYR 4.95 nett.

Go Street Noodle

Herbal Chicken Drumstick Mee Suah at MYR 13.80+ (6% SST = MYR 14.60 nett). Fried Fish Fillet Mee Suah at MYR 14.50+ (MYR 15.05 nett).

The fish fillet is quite thin.

Shopfront - I believe this eatery is by Go Noodle company too.

Bill for two is MYR 34.75 nett because we also ordered a cup of bentong ginger tea at MYR 4.5+ (MYR 4.77 nett).

Then we walked around Sri Petaling and saw this signboard - does the noodle taste like the noodles sold by the famous green lane shop in Penang?

This eatery is located at the back portion of the roti man bakery.

The entrance is at the side at the back but I think you can walk through the bakery to get to the eatery behind. Maybe one day I will eat lunch at this place.
