Yesterday the elderly was transfered to a normal ward in the late evening. At 11.20 pm at night, the doctor called to inform that the elderly's condition is worsening so close family may sit by the bedside to accompany the elderly and to say goodbye.
Kid1, kid3 and kid4 and their families immediately went to the hospital and calm the elderly from 11.50 pm to the next morning 2 am. When the elderly has calmed down and seems to be sleeping, then everyone went home to catch up on sleep after saying goodbye to the elderly. Luckily still can call grab at 2 am.
Personally it was a very sad experience for me to watch the elderly gasping for air with the oxygen mask on and with flailing arms now and then. The elderly couldn't speak with the oxygen mask on so just some hoarse sounds from the throat.

At about 12 noon, when the hospital doctors change shift, the new doctor on duty took a look at the elderly and immediately call kid3 again to say, is going soon, please accompany and sit by bedside without knowing that in the wee hours morning of 3 am, everyone was there by the elderly's bedside but went home to rest. The elderly is still hanging on. 💪
Kid4 said it very well. Kid4 says the elderly must be very angry and annoyed at being trapped in this failing body and is expressing the anger via hoarse grunts, gasping breaths and flailing arms. That sounds correct to me because the elderly's personality is like that, very resilient and strong will. Kid2 family is driving back from across the causeway so hopefully kid2 and family can successfully persuade the elderly to move on peacefully when they arrived in kl in the evening.
it's sad to see a person struggle at the end of their live. I wish i could die peacefully without having to suffer.
ReplyDeleteIt is my prayer that everyone in this world could move on peacefully without having to suffer like the elderly is suffering here. 😢
DeleteIt is sad and distress to be in such situation. But good to know that everyone came and said goodbye. May elderly goes peacefully, that is what everyone wish for.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Yes, praying 🙏 earnestly for the elderly to move on peacefully and smoothly.
DeleteVery distressing to witness the end. From your posts I can see the whole family really pulled together to care for the elderlies so guess you have done all you can.
ReplyDeleteWe were there by the bedside when the doctor says it is time. It is very traumatic because the elderly was gasping violently with flailing arms and didn't move on until 12 hours later.
