Laduree at Pavilion

I have eaten a few macarons in KL but always find them to be too sweet so I do not understand why they are so popular. Then I read that the best macarons are made by Laduree in France so I told myself that if I ever visit Paris again, I am going to try the macarons at Laduree.

Near the end of November this year, Laduree is finally available in KL at the Pavilion Mall so I do not need to fly to Paris to taste their macarons.

Standing in queue to buy the macarons as takeaways.

They sell other dainty pastries too.

I bought 5 macarons only so they were put into a paper bag for me.

Laduree (Paris) since 1862

My selection: Rose, Raspberry, Pistachio, Mocha and Chocolate. I like the Rose macaron the best because the rose taste is quite subtle and I can taste the almond in the two almond meringue biscuit discs which are very light in texture. So light that they disappear very quickly when in the mouth. So very quickly until my friend says that he did not even know that he has eaten it. The chocolate and mocha filling are very rich and creamy. I can detect raspberry fruit pieces in the filling of the raspberry macaron. Well I must say that they do indeed live up to their name.

Each macaron costs MYR 12 nett. I did not buy the macarons in the premium range that costs MYR 18 nett each. The macarons are also sold in pretty boxes with prices starting from MYR100 onwards. There is a small dining area for customers who prefer not to have takeaways. I will need to save up to enjoy the other pastries here. Till next time.

Colourful Decor

They were still setting it up when I was there previously.  Now everything is ready and shining brightly! Santa Claus flying in on his sledge with the reindeer. I believe there is a wishing well next to the green pavilion in the middle of the display.

"All I want for Christmas..." is the theme at The Curve.

Many people taking photos of the reindeer.

Very colourful. I managed to catch a singing and dancing performance at the pavilion with green roof.

Mr Fish at Starling Mall

Grouper Fillet Thin Mee Hoon in Clear Soup at MYR17.90++ (5% service charge and 6% GST) which is MYR19.95 nett. I like that there is quite a lot of greens (yin choy) in the bowl.

6 pieces of thick Grouper Fillet which are so delicious! This noodle is now my favourite fish fillet noodle.

Shop interior.

Divider Ornaments

I have been to Mr Fish at Damansara Kim and now I can say that I have been to the one in the Starling Mall as well. Combo meals are not available but all the noodles are served with free drinks - a choice of pandan lemongrass drink or green tea drink and all of us selected the pandan lemon grass drink.

Add this that

One day, I decided to have economy fried noodles for breakfast. The noodles are not fried on order but are already fried in bulk and sold as is. As this fried noodle is sold by Kim Hung Nasi Lemak stall at Swee Hing coffee shop, I added one whole hard boiled egg, some curry potatoes and some acar (pickled vegetables). This whole dish costs MYR 6 nett. I kept half of everything for lunch and had a satisfying breakfast.

Mee Rebus

After reading about mee jawa at Nancy's blog and mee rebus at STP's blog, I went in search of them and found the above - Mee Rebus at MYR 12.50+ (5% service charge = MYR 13.15 nett). It has half a hard boiled egg, some vegetables, potatoes, squid, tofu and very thick gravy.

A close up look at the pieces of squid.

See how thick the gravy is. I shared this plate of mee rebus with my friend and we finished eating all the gravy.

Penang Flavours in One Utama is located opposite Old Siam eatery.

Meet Meat

100 gm of siu yuk (roast pork) - MYR 12 nett. I selected English Mustard dip but was served salsa verde (green herby sauce) instead. I did not change it because the 3 of us don't mind having this sauce.

100 gm of char siu (BBQ pork) - MYR 12 nett. This char siu is indeed charred on the outside but the meat is very tender and the fat just melts in the mouth.

100 gm of porchetta (Italian pork roast) - MYR 13 nett. We like this meat the best because of the taste of the herbs and it has very crispy skins. Salsa verde is the dip selected.

Porchetta sandwich again. This time with ciabatta instead of baguette so it costs a bit higher at MYR 16.50 nett. Although ciabatta is softer than baguette, I feel that baguette makes the sandwich tastes better.

A small bowl of porridge to share again - MYR 4.50 nett. We just taste a bit of  the salty pickled olive vegetable.

Salt with bacon bits and spicy seasonings are provided for those who are having salads.

As my spouse likes to eat siu yuk, I introduced this eatery to him. Total bill for 3 is MYR 63 nett. Although this eatery has been around for a few years, recently Astro featured it in one of the gourmet programmes so when we were there on a Saturday, we had to wait a while for seats and customers kept walking in when we left. Hope that they will be around for a long time because the food is affordable and of high quality.

Fatty Overdose

Siu Yuk Mantao with no chili (there are 3 mantaos in 1 serving) - MYR 12 nett. The 3 of us ate 1 mantao each. The siu yuk (roast pork) has crispy skin and alternate layers of fat and meat. For once I swallowed some fats and spat out some that I felt are too thick.

Char siu mantao with sriracha chili sauce - MYR 12 nett for 1 serving (3 mantaos).  We ate 1 each again. This time I could not spit out the fatty parts of the char siu (BBQ pork) because the fat bits just melt in my mouth.

Porchetta Sandwich (Baguette) - MYR 15 nett. To put it simply, porchetta is Italian pork roast. My friend shared this with me as I love to eat rocket salad (arugula). I just love the taste of the meat, sauce and arugula. Must eat this immediately as the baguette gets a bit tough to chew when I brought some home.

A small bowl of porridge - MYR 4.50 nett. Very flavourful with many small pieces of siu yuk in it with peanuts. It was so flavourful that we did not eat much of the salty pickled vegetables provided (as can be seen in the small plastic container beside the bowl of porridge). My friend told me that the pickled vegetable is "橄欖菜/橄榄菜" (olive vegetable). I googled the chinese words and the exact picture appeared so I believe that my friend is correct. My friend shared this bowl of porridge with me too. I love the large amount of coriander/cilantro garnishing on the porridge.

My friend even bought 100 gm of siu yuk home for her family to eat. I have not eaten so much fatty bits in my entire life.

Pleasant interior. Order and pay at the counter and your meals will be delivered to your table.

Located at Kota Damansara, near Encorp Strand Mall.

They have this leaflet to distribute. Top left corner shows the porchetta. The two items at the bottom right and left are not sold now.

Turn the leaflet over and this is what you will see.

The menu is a simple 3-column listing which filled up 1 page only. Here I show it in 3 parts (1 part above and 2 parts below). You may click on any of the 3 parts to get a bigger photo so you may read the words in there.

We noticed that the rice is served in quite a big portion.

An adequate selection of drinks.

White Christmas

So much snow!

Snow men, moon and stars at One Utama.
Snow flakes all around

Stairs at both sides to meet the giant snow man

Snow and gifts on top of the kiosks.

Children having fun by sliding into a pool of balls.

All around the mall, there are Christmas trees with snow/cloud above them.

Cloud or Snow?

Ra Myeon

I don't know what I was thinking of when I ordered this spicy seafood Ra Myeon (Ramen) at MYR14.90+ (6% GST = MYR15.80 nett). Luckily I put half the noodles into my trusted container because I was very full when I finished eating the remaining noodles in my bowl. It was spicy and salty but satisfying because I like to eat instant noodles and this tastes like expensive instant noodles. I had to summon all my will power to withstand this level of spiciness as my tongue and mouth were burning.

This Ra Myeon includes 3 banchans: kimchi, anchovies, and long beans. I took most of the kimchi home for dinner and of course I did not ask for any refills.

Both my friends ordered rice sets and none of us had drinks. The previous visit to Ko Hyang, Gardens Mall, I just ate a pancake.
