Chiffon Cakes

Since I don't bake, I am now hooked on the chiffon cakes by RT Pastry because of their soft and light texture and affordable price. When I went to buy the 4th cake, I also bought some buns.

MYR5.80 nett for the pandan chiffon cake.

4th cake

MYR5.50 nett. Very light coffee taste.

MYR5.80 nett. My spouse says no taste. I ate it just for its light and soft texture.

I forgot - was it MYR5.50 nett or MYR5.80 nett for this one. I find this is the sweetest chiffon cake so far. Other flavours that I have not tried yet: green tea with red beans.

MYR5.50 nett. Very light vanilla taste.

Kim Gary

Pasta Pork Chop set which includes a drink (HK style milk tea or coffee or ying yong - tea mixed with coffee) and soup (cream or borsch soup) - MYR14.90++ (.MYR17.40 nett). Looks good but I did not taste this.

Korean noodle set with Kimchi, Chicken Wing, Sausage, luncheon meat and egg - MYR14.90++ (MYR17.40 nett) which also includes a drink. My friend who ordered this gave me the kimchi which was very flavourful.

My order - cheese baked rice with beef set with a choice of red or white cream gravy (MYR18.90++  MYR22 nett) and I chose white. I kept half in my container for dinner and ate the rest for lunch. I had borsch soup and ying yong drink which were included in this set lunch.

Drinks and Soup in the sets (not all were in this photo).

Order chit

Bill is MYR91.55

When we walked out of the restaurant, we noticed that there was a long queue waiting to get in as always. I think there is always a long queue because the price for the sets is quite good and there are many lunch set choices but as the food is too flavouful for me, I seldom eat here unless my friends wanted to have their meals here.

Raya Decor

I was at IOI City Mall last Saturday and was pleasantly surprised to find that the mall has already put up the Raya decorations for the festival that is about one month away.

A closer look at the decors.

Dairy Tooth

This is a new eatery in Jaya One, PJ. My friend told me that their silky milk tea from Hong Kong is delicious! I have yet to try it.

New Menu

We visited Tea Garden at Sri Petaling recently and found that they have a new menu now.

My order - Dry Mee Siam (plain with only beansprouts) at MYR4.50 nett. I find it too spicy so I must remember not to order this next time.

We also ordered other items so the total bill is MYR23.80 nett for 2 pax.

Dessert Dinner

All these for two.

Fruits Rojak - MYR10++ 6% GST and 10% service charge (MYR11.65 nett) - cucumber, green apple, guava, jicama and pineapple with peanuts and fish sauce.

Mango with Tohua - MYR7++ (MYR8.15 nett). The mango puree on top of the slices of mango tastes good without any of the "fake" concentrated cordial mango drink taste.

Peanut Paste - MYR5++ (MYR5.85 nett). I like this the best because it is only slightly sweet with a strong roasted peanut taste.

ABC with ice cream - MYR8++ (MYR9.35 nett). There are way too many types of ingredients in it - cendol, attap chee (nipa palm), red bean, grass jelly (leong fun/cincau), peanuts and yellow raisins.

Red Bean Soup with Sweet Potatoes and Lotus Seeds - MYR6++ (MYR7 nett). I like this because everything in it is soft and tasty, not too sweet.

We ordered so many items at Farmer Street, Jaya Shopping Centre because we wanted the bill to be over MYR50 so that we can pay by card. I did not eat the rice at all.

Warung

Nasi Lemak Beef Rendang - MYR11.90++ 10% service charge and 6% GST (MYR13.85 nett). The portion is not big, just nice for an average appetite. The beef is tender and tasty. Cold Nescafe Coffee - MYR3.60++ (MYR4.20 nett).

Total Bill for 1 pax - MYR18.05 nett.

The Warung is located next to RotiBoy in Midvalley Mall, near the entrance from the train stop (KTM). This is the eatery that we will go to for nasi lemak beef rendang in Midvalley Mall now.

Honey Cake

I was at RT Pastry when I noticed many people were buying honey cakes, so when it was my turn, I asked for one too without knowing the price. It is just a small cake, about 3 inches in diameter.

Bought it again on another day.

The box and description

Very soft with the nice taste of honey and a spot of savoury cheese on top.

Then I looked at the receipt for its price - oh, MYR7.50 nett. At this price, I would rather eat Tokyo Secret Cheese Tarts.

FOC Hot Water

Chicken Curry Kapitan Rice - MYR13++ (MYR15.15 nett). The curry gravy is thick and flavourful. As there was a lot of curry gravy, I took the balance home and ate them with mee hoon for lunch the next day.

A cup of hot honey lemon at MYR5++ (MYR5.85 nett). We forgot to stir this drink so it was very sweet after we drank half of it as the honey was at the bottom of the cup. I asked for an additional cup of hot water to add to this half cup of honey lemon drink and was not charged for the hot water so we will definitely return to try all the items on the menu as we like their good service.

Peanut Paste and Sweet Potatoes - MYR6++ (MYR7 nett). I like this dessert because it is just slightly sweet.

Total Bill is MYR28 nett for 2 pax for dinner at Farmers Street, Jaya.

Afternoon Tea

Brasserie 25 is a restaurant in Hotel Stripes, the new YTL boutique hotel which is located near Yut Kee. It offers Le Gouter (Tea Time in French) at MYR60 nett per pax daily from 3pm to 6pm with free flow of food and drinks. When my friend informed me that they are now having a promotional price of MYR60 nett for 2 pax until the end of June, the 4 of us made a reservation immediately.

Savoury snacks are served first. There are three types, one for each of us.

Deep fried parmesan cheese rice balls - rich cheese taste, not salty.

Chicken curry puff and smoke salmon mini quiche

When we have finished eating the savoury snacks, a tray of sweet goodies were brought to us for us to choose the ones that we would like to eat. Each of us chose one of the above - a raspberry macaron, a mini pistachio strawberry tart, a slice of pistachio biscotti, and a stick of cookie which I think may be the "Langues de chat" (cat's tongue's cookie).

Then for the other sweet items, we chose one of each to share between the 4 of us. I did not catch their names when told to us so I will just describe what I think I tasted for each of them - (from left to right) - a choux pastry with hazelnut cream (Pralinoise Paris-Brest), pear tart, opera cake (tiramisu), a round dark chocolate cake, and I can't remember what the other two slices of cakes taste like. At anytime we could ask for any of the items to be refilled.

Later a tray of ham and cheese toasted sandwiches were brought to us but we only took two as we were quite full then. The selection of drinks were black tea, coffee or latte and all of us chose black tea.

For the 4 of us, only two paid MYR60 nett each and the other two ate for free. Of course we divided the cost evenly between us so each of us paid MYR30 nett only for this free flow afternoon tea.

******
My friends also went for two other afternoon teas (which I did not join) but which I will include here for comparison.

Grand High Tea Set by TWG - MYR118+ 10% service charge for two pax. All the above food items are infused with tea.

5 savoury items and 5 sweet items each so 10 food items for 1 person.

******

Cafes Richard at Sky Avenue, Genting Highlands. This tea set is for 2 to 4 pax and includes one coffee or tea. I think the price is about MYR143 (non member) or MYR128 (member).

Awesome Canteen

I did not know what to order after looking through the menu many times. Awesome Canteen is known for its Paleo menu. Eating the Paleo way means no processed food at all. If you are interested, you can perform an online search on the Paleo Diet which is very popular now.

Since I don't know what to order, I went to the one dish that I am most familiar with - Saba Shioyaki (lightly salted) Don (rice bowl) at MYR18.90+ 6% GST (MYR20 nett) which includes a bowl of miso soup. A poached egg is included and I requested it to be fully cooked but the yolk was still a bit runny though the whites are fully cooked. On hindsight, I should have requested for a hard boiled egg instead of just saying fully cooked egg please because it would be quite difficult to fully cook a poached egg.

I place the runny yolk into the hot miso soup to try to cook it a bit. At least it was not so runny when I ate it.

Awesome Canteen at Paramount Garden, PJ (near Loong Foong Duck).

I bought a slice of dark chocolate cake as takeaway MYR14.90+ (MYR15.80 nett). Only slightly sweet with a rich chocolate taste so it was tasty.

A box for the slice of cake.

Receipt for the cake only.
