WG Maki

Don't know what to eat for lunch again so went to Sushi Zanmai at The Gardens again to check on their price after 1 June 2018. As can be seen from the receipt below, they have removed the 6% GST from the price stated on the menu for all the listed items except for the refillable green tea which still remains as MYR 1.20 nett. I did not ask why as the green tea is refillable.

Chawanmushi MYR 5.47 nett (used to be MYR 5.80 nett). California Maki and Avocado Maki used to be MYR 4.80 nett each so now is MYR 4.53 nett. A white plate of sushi (tamago sushi in this case) used to cost MYR 2.80 nett so now it costs MYR 2.64 nett.

Maki

California Maki - MYR4.80 nett.

Tamago Maki - MYR2.80 nett and Avocado Maki - MYR4.80 nett.

Aburi Salmon Sushi - MYR6.80 nett. I spent a total of MYR19.20 nett on the above maki and sushi. I thought if I ordered maki instead of sushi I would not be so full but I still am very full from the amount of rice consumed. Maybe I should stick to my usual selection or try other combination with less rice.

This bill is for 4 pax - MYR68.60 nett. Lunch at Sushi Zanmai, the Gardens Mall.

Too hungry

Despite not liking the mayo mentai sauce that much, I grabbed these 3 plates of sushi from the sushi conveyor belt at Sushi Zanmai, Gardens Mall because I was too hungry. Egg Mayo Sushi - MYR3.80 nett, Salmon Mayo Sushi - MYR6.80 nett and Prawns Mayo Sushi - MYR6.80 nett.

I will always order 2 sets of Avocado Sushi at MYR2.80 nett per set (1 set has 2 pieces of sushi).

Still greedy hungry so grab another plate of tamago sushi at MYR2.80 nett.

Ends with 1 plate of mini cucumber maki - MYR2.80 nett to clear my palate. So I spent a total of MYR28.60 nett for lunch because I was ravenous. Lesson of the day - always have some snacks around to put some food in the stomach before ordering meals.

My Selection

Finally we went to eat at the renovated Sushi Zanmai branch at the Gardens Mall. The above sushi items are my favourite sushi.

We also ordered a bowl/cup of chawanmushi at MYR5.80 nett.

The most expensive item in our selection is Sushi Unatama at MYR7.80 for a set of two sushi unagi with tamago. Next is the Aburi Salmon Sushi at MYR6.80 for a set of two partially grilled salmon sushi. After that is salmon peach sushi and toro (fatty belly meat) salmon at MYR5.80 nett for a set of two sushi.

The plates are colour coded.

Another look at the delicious sushi.

Which one should I eat the last so that its taste will remind in my mouth for the longest time?

I still can't decide. Which one do you suggest?

T2014 Sushi Express

When we were in Taipei, we kept coming across a sushi conveyor belt store. It seems that this store has many outlets and offers affordable sushi at one fixed low price of TWD30 per plate. TWD30 is about MYR3.60 so we decided to go for it and went to the Sushi Express (爭鮮迴轉壽司) at Ximending.

According to their website http://www.sushiexpress.com.tw/  they have a branch in Singapore too. For about  MYR3.60 a plate, I have to say that the quality is quite nice since we can't expect it to be the best. The key is to select only those sushi that is expensive since all plates cost the same price per plate but we did not do that because we wanted to try as many types as we could. There are a few types that we don't find at all in our local conveyor belt sushi chain stores. What we ate:

1. Fish and Roe Sushi

2. Pickled Fish Sushi

3. Prawns Sushi

4. Steamed okras

5. Smoked Salmon

6. Ikura Gunkan Maki Sushi

7. Mussels

8. Cashew Nuts Inari Sushi

9. Salmon Sashimi

10. Salmon Belly Sushi

11. Top view Salmon Belly Sushi

12. Salmon Sushi

13. Fish roe Sushi

14. Gunkan Maki with Shrimp Roe

15. Tamago

16. Mango Pudding (not nice)

17. Steamed Prawns

18. Steamed Egg

19. Fish Sushi

20. Mentai Squid Sushi

21. Fish Liver

For the low price, this is a place worth eating at. We wanted to return for more but couldn't find the time to do so as we have too many other eateries to explore.
