Too soft

It is time for cakes again after more than 6 months.

There were too many types of cakes at Secret Recipe so I randomly choose a slice of New York Cheese cake. The texture is softer than what I expected, almost like Japanese cheese cakes.

Here's a look at its texture. The description on its website states "baked soft creamy cheese with chocolate cookie base" so the texture is meant to be soft. The good thing is the price is still MYR8.80 nett. I hope they keep to this price for many more years and I will keep eating their cakes every 6 months.

Uncle Don's

Grilled Pork Chop Set - MYR13.40 nett with a choice of mushroom, BBQ or black pepper sauce and I chose mushroom sauce. Includes ice lemon tea (hot or cold) and a scoop of ice cream (vanilla, chocolate or strawberry). The pork chop is very thin so don't have a high expectation but the taste is ok.

My choice - strawberry ice cream and 2 of my friends were abstaining from cold food so I ate their ice cream too. 3 portions in total but since the scoop is so small, I feel that it is ok to eat 3 scoops.

It was a farewell lunch for one of my co workers so here is the list of what we ordered from the lunch set menu. Prices shown are nett.

Tag line - Uncle Don's - Dine like a Don everyday. What is a Don? In Japanese language, Don is the short form of the word Donburi which means rice bowl dish but this Don does not mean that.

This eatery serves alcohol too.

Always full house during lunch and dinner because of its affordable price.

Taj Briyani House

Lamb Briyani MYR18.50+ 6% GST (MYR19.60 nett). I like this dish a lot because the lamb meat which was hidden beneath the soft rice is tender and tasty. The portion is enough for two small eaters. I will definitely order this again.

Papadum on the house. Nescafe coffee with ice at MYR3+ (MYR3.20 nett).

Nasi goreng kampung (Village Fried Rice) at MYR6.80+ (MYR7.20 nett). I did not try this.

Pistachio Kulfi at MYR6+ (MYR6.35 nett). This is a bit on the sweet side and is denser than the usual ice cream. There is a spice taste which I believe is cardamom taste. I may have this again.

Total Bill is MYR36.40 nett. Taj Briyani House is located in Section 19, PJ. I was there waiting for the family car that was at the service center and chose this eatery arbitrarily so it was a pleasant surprise when the food tastes great.

Near Expiry Date

MYR15.80 nett a box but now they are having a buy 1 get another box free because they want to clear the CNY stock so I bought 1 box and ended up with 2 boxes.

They are tasty but not the best that I have eaten so far.

The expiry date is 31 march 2017 which is about 9 days away.

The answer is for the previous post is I had the BMS signature nasi lemak! Who guessed correctly? Many did. Surprisingly, none guessed the vegetarian bak kut teh. For those who guessed teppanyaki, if you did a search for the word "teppanyaki" on my blog, you would have found no mention of teppanyaki before the previous post. That is because I absolutely dislike teppanyaki due to the smell of hot oil (almost like wok hei) so I have never eaten teppanyaki and wouldn't even try it. Thank you all for joining this guessing game! :) Have a good weekend!

BMS Organics

I make it a point not to eat at special vegetarian eateries especially organic ones because of the high price so I have not eaten at BMS Organics after it started operating in Midvalley Mall sometime around Oct 2015. Recently my co-workers decided to go there for lunch so I went along.

The 3 of us ordered a meal each.

Herby Broth Pot with Multigrain Rice (can see the rice in photo 1) - MYR20.90 nett. This tastes very good like Bak Kut Teh but without any meat.

Vegetables Teppanyaki with Multigrain Rice - MYR11.90 nett - set has peanuts and pickled radish. Anyone who likes to eat crunchy vegetables would like this.

BMS Signature Nasi Lemak - MYR13.90 nett with pumpkin rendang. I would say this is a tasty dish although the sambal is a bit on the sweet side and the acar is a bit too salty.
Of the 3 dishes above, which dish do you think is my order/lunch? Please take a guess. The answer will be revealed in the next post.

Okra in Sesame Sauce - MYR10.90 nett. We shared this dish. Very tender okra.

Total Bill is MYR57.60 nett for the lunch and MYR15.80 is for two boxes of Pineapple Rolls (buy 1 box get 1 box free).

Anzu KL

When I read that there is a new Japanese eatery that specialises in tonkatsu here in Lot 10, KL, I plan to eat there to celebrate a special occasion. We went there yesterday for lunch and ordered all three of the limited Ginjo Pork Tonkatsu Sets (black pig) in the menu to try and all four of us agreed that this is the best tonkatsu eatery in KL now. The pork is juicy, tender with crispy batter but not oily. We chose to have brown rice and both types of soup - bean soup and seaweed soup among the 4 of us.

Ginjo Pork Fillet Katsu Set - MYR55+ 6% GST (MYR58.30 nett)

Very very thick pork fillet which is a bit pink in the middle

Small pork loin katsu set - MYR35+ (MYR37.10 nett). This item is not from the limited section of the menu so it would be available all day.

See the difference? The small pork loin katsu with the thick pork fillet.

Ginjo Pork Loin Katsu Set - MYR48+ 6% GST (MYR50.88 nett)

Ginjo Pork Fatty Loin Katsu Set - MYR55+ 6% GST (MYR58.30 nett)

We had to grind our own sesame to make the sesame sauce

Unlimited refillable rice and finely shredded cabbage. There are a few types of slightly sweet brown sauce provided.

Free appetiser - pickled shredded radish.

Shiso mayonnaise (shiso leaves) is also provided in the mini decanter jug in the photo above. I like the taste of shiso leaves which lift up the taste of the mayonnaise.

Total bill MYR204.80 for 4pax (on average around MYR50 per person). I  think we will just eat here once a year for celebrations.

Entrance

Limited seats so be there early at 11 am or be prepared to wait for a while.

Main entrance to all the new Japanese restaurants in Isetan, Lot 10.

Anzu KL

Operating Hours. I think should be 11 am and not 10 am so do call to confirm.

Mix and Match

Whenever we are at The Curve, we would go to Teh Tarik Place if we wanted to have a tasty meal (inclusive of a drink) for under MYR15 per person.

"Sini Cannot Smoking" - just trying to be different?

Even if you don't understand the sentence, you will understand the no-smoking sign.

Not so new

One fine Sunday, my friends and I wanted to have a meal at Peter Hoe Cafe at The Row, Jalan Doraisamy (first floor) so we went there at 10.30 am but the lunch menu was not available yet so one of my friends suggested that we walk to Yut Kee eatery a few streets away. Ever since Yut Kee moved to its new location (which is very near to its old location) in 2014, I have not been there so I said ok, why not, might as well try the food there at least once since I seldom venture into this area.

When we reached Yut Kee, there were many people waiting for seats but we did not have to wait long and were shown to our table. We did not order the popular dishes such as Pork Bun and Hainanese Chicken Chop because we felt like eating noodles. The noodles taste ok with reasonable price.

Lum Mee - MYR 8.50 nett

Curry MeeHoon Mee - MYR 7.50 nett

Hailam Mee - MYR 7.50 nett

Fried Toong Fun - MYR 7.50 nett

Full House

Yut Kee

Total bill for 4 is MYR 37.65 nett inclusive of drinks

Closed on Mondays

This is the new but not so new location.
