AMAH at The Sphere

Two of us went to the branch of Ali, Muthu and Ah Hock at The Sphere, Kerinchi/Bangsar South after I visited the branch in KL City Center.

My friend ordered the nasi lemak (coconut milk rice) deep fried chicken at MYR 13.10 nett with a cup of hot Cham (Mixed coffee and tea mixed) at MYR 2.90 nett. The deep fried chicken is just as tasty as the one I ate before.

I could not decide on what to order and in the end, I went with the Nasi Himpit Soto at MYR 12.30 nett. I like the soft compressed rice cubes. The broth tastes rich with spices which I cannot recognised but it was not those hot and spicy type. You can choose to have Soto with noodles too.

I found one begedil kentang (ground potatoes patty) hiding underneath the cubes of compressed rice in my bowl. Overall, this soto tastes ok. Next time I would order the lontong dish that has the same price with this soto. I found this explanation for lontong online: "A dish containing pressed rice and vegetable gravy".

Please click on the above menu for a larger image. You can view the menu of the branch in KL city center to compare the prices. So far, almost all the dishes are priced higher at this branch other than the plain nasi lemak.

Our bill is MYR 36.50 nett as we bought chicken curry as takeaway at MYR 8.20 nett.

Old style louvre windows

As this is a shop unit located at the corner, it has two entrances. This is the side entrance.

The main entrance.

More seats and tables outside the enclosed shop unit. I guess this is the dining area for smokers.

WG Food Lover Cafe

Set lunch: Chicken and Brinjal Pasta with Iced Peach Tea - MYR 15.90 nett.

Set lunch: Black Pepper Fish Fillet Roll with Iced Lime Juice (I requested for no sugar so this drink was very sour but I finished it) - MYR 16.90 nett. Initially I wanted to order the grilled fish fillet so I asked about the type of fish that they used and was told that for grilled fish, they use dory fish but for this roll, they use pollock fish so I changed my mind.

Side view. I cut the roll into half and kept it for dinner and gave away my fries to my friend.

They gave us a free stick of ice cream each for the set lunch: Nestle Lychee Yogurt.

Anyone who likes to eat those canned Lychees most commonly sold in bulks during CNY and also yogurt will like this ice cream just like I did.

The set lunch menu is changed monthly. There is a loyalty card system where they will give you a stamp for each set lunch ordered. After 5 sets, they will give you a free set. I think that this is a very good promotion. It could be the reason that this eatery is very popular during lunch time.

Ala carte menu: Spicy kung po prawn rice - MYR 12.90 nett. My friend says that this is not spicy at all.

Total bill for 3 pax is MYR 45.70 nett.

They have cakes too.

Price list for the cakes.

Food Lover cafe at Block A, Happy Mansion, Section 17, PJ. It is located a few shop lots away from Frame Thai.

Too Sweet

It so happened that I was in Starling Mall when I read PH's review about Gourmet Brownies so I went looking for it and tried a small sample of Classy Jane Brownie. It tastes good but is a bit too sweet for me so I did not buy any.

On that day, we went to Sushi Zanmai, Starling mall for lunch. I ordered a small bowl of Tempura soba for MYR 13.96 nett. There were only two pieces of tempura - a prawn and a piece of brinjal. Other than this, I also ordered my usual avocado sushi (MYR 2.64 nett - two pieces).

I was very hungry when we reached this eatery so I grabbed a green plate off the sushi conveyor belt and gobbled the sushi up without taking any photo of it. That green plate with unagi sushi costs me MYR 6.42 nett for two pieces. The other items were dishes ordered by my 3 friends.

47BD1 Scallop Dumplings

We are back at Xin Cuisine, Concorde Hotel for their delicious dim sum on a Saturday (10.30 am) now that the 6% GST has been removed. Very creamy egg tarts (3) and Yam Puff (3) - MYR 12.20 nett each. Salad Prawn at MYR 15 nett.

I like to eat the scallop dumplings here so we ordered 2 portions (3 each) at MYR 28.30 nett per basket. The scallops are very fresh and juicy. Prawn dumplings and king siew mai (3 for MYR 16 nett each) and steamed fish paste at MYR 12.20 nett.

My friend said that we must order the roast pork (siew yuk) so we did at MYR 28.30 nett per portion.

The skin is so crispy and the thin layer of fats just melts in our mouths so this dish is definitely a must-eat.

I had to order the Lau Sa Bao (salted egg yolk buns - 3 for MYR 13 nett) as recommended by STP. This time the buns have a tinge of durian taste that enhances the overall eating experience. One of my friends also detected the durian taste but another friend could not detect it.

Total bill for 4 pax is MYR 182.35 nett after a 10% discount by using a member card. The BBQ pork bun and Lao Sar Bao has the same price so I did not alert the staff to the fact that I ordered Lao Sar Bao and not BBQ pork bun.

Other items on the order chit. Please click on the above photo to view a larger image. Need to deduct 6% GST from the listed price above.

WG Go 2 Pan Mee

Hakka Yam Abacus - MYR 8.50 nett. Tasty because can taste the yam since they do not use that much flour but more yam to make the abacus but oily though not as oily as this version sold here.

Kept half for dinner and my friend gave me her deep fried bean curd sheets and anchovies from her pan mee because she is having a sore throat so does not want to eat deep fried food items.

Total bill for 3 pax is MYR 24.50 nett.

This Go 2 Pan Mee eatery (air-cond) is located near My Toast N Roast (same row) at SS2, PJ.

New dish again

After trying the beef stew with rice at Wonton Pho, we tried another new item on the menu - marinated pork belly with rice at MYR 17.90 nett.

It looks like braised pork that I am used to eating but it tastes different as it does not have the star anise taste. But it still is tasty as I like the hard boiled egg in this dish.

Two of us shared this main meal with a glass of ice coffee (MYR 8.90 nett). Total price is MYR 26.80 nett.

WG Moo Ping

A portion of Moo Ping (3 sticks) for MYR 14.80 nett.

\
The pork meat is well marinated, is very soft and pinkish though it was well cooked so I don't think I will order it again.

My friend gave her ice cream from her set lunch to me.

This is the 2nd time I had lunch at the Brew House, SS2, PJ. Total price for 4 pax is MYR 40.40 nett because two of my friends shared one set lunch. I can't believe that their set lunch has a lower price than the Moo Ping that I ordered.

WG Weekly Vege

Once a week vegetarian lunch again. This time Medifoods served both papaya and jicama as starters foc.

My vegetarian set lunch (MYR 12.74 nett) - black bean bitter gourd is one of the dish. This time the soup of the day is Kau Kee (Cantonese for wolfberry leaves, goji leaves, 九杞菜) soup. As usual I kept half the basmati rice for dinner with some vegetables.

WG Foodie Nest Changes

We went to the food court at Starling Mall and noticed that some stalls are no longer there.

The vacant stall with the black sign boards used to be occupied by KOM's by Kompassion as reviewed by PH here. I did not even get to try their food and now they are gone.

Another eatery that is no longer there is Teo Chew Curry Laksa (by Mr. Fish) which I have tried once.

This time I decided to try the chee cheong fun and fried chicken set from the LFC stall. LFC stands for Lim Fried Chicken.

Then I looked at their menu and saw the mutton curry rice set and changed my mind and ordered that instead of the fried chicken. Please click on the above menu for a larger image. The chee cheong fun and fried chicken costs MYR 13 nett. Next time I plan to order from the ala carte menu - chee cheong fun MYR 4 and add on mutton for MYR 6. I wonder if they will allow me to do that or they will tell me that add on is only available if I buy from the set menu.

Mutton Curry rice set with cabbage, sambal and a bowl of curry gravy at MYR 12 nett. The mutton curry is tasty with tender mutton although it does not look good from the photo. The cabbage is soft and naturally sweet. I kept half for dinner as usual.
