Late Meal

On Tuesday 26.dec.2023, he went over to prepare breakfast for the elderly. At about 10 am, we went to Dwitasik to ask for more info so dropped by 126 mixed rice Sri Permaisuri for brunch and to buy takeaway lunch for the elderly but the dishes are not ready yet so we just ate brunch at RHB eatery nearby.

Bought chapfan lunch MYR 9 nett from Tim Won coffee shop for the elderly and stopped by to serve it but the elderly says not hungry so we just put the chapfan on the dining table. Later at 4 pm, went to Tim Won again to buy soup for the elderly but the stall is not opened yet so we bought bkt instead. Also ate bit there.

10.28 am - his rice MYR 2 with veges MYR 4 and onion chicken leg MYR 9 so his plate of rice is MYR 15 nett. Nescafe hot MYR 3.70 nett. My squid rojak aka rojak sotong MYR 10.30 nett. The onion chicken is on the sweet side, so is the rojak sauce and squid gravy. We shared all the food.

Total price is MYR 29 nett.

10.26 am - this is the rojak stall which tempted me to order rojak.

4.01 pm - Bkt for one pax sai guat and one pax yam rice MYR 23 nett. The yam rice on my plate is half portion as we shared the yam rice.

He also bought a pack of bkt MYR 18 nett for the elderly and served it to the elderly along with most of the chapfan after he reheated the chapfan because the elderly won't eat food at room temperature, wants warm or hot food.

5.34 pm - I have to clear these food so this is  dinner for me. This is considered a late meal for me because I usually stop eating after 3 pm. Remaining elderly's chapfan, stirfry eggs pork meat and remaining meat on ribs from yesterday's pork ribs. The rib bones are so thick. Very meaty dinner.

Elderly's reading before breakfast 10.6 mmol/l. The previous morning reading is 10.4 mmol/l. Looks like the max meds is not effective, need to request doctor to adjust the meds if possible.

Squid Fry Mihun

On Tuesday 12.dec.2023, went to Pavilion Bukit Jalil to eat Penang chendul at MYR 1.20++ per bowl for the 1st 100 bowls. Early morning, he went to prepare breakfast for the Elderly and bought two char siew bao for the elderly.

*** Squid Fry Mihun ***

1.57 pm - he watched a utub introducing this mihun dish so I bought takeaway one pack MYR 10 nett for him to try at home.

2 pm - this is the stall at a common coffee shop also with the name Nanyang that is located at Taman esplanade Bukit Jalil. 

From this coffee shop, I also bought a pack of wat tan Mee suah MYR 9 nett for the elderly's lunch and from the roast meat stall, I bought siew yuk, chicken liver and 2 braised eggs MYR 14 nett. On the way back, he delivered and served the egg gravy Mee suah with added siew yuk, chicken liver and one wedge braised egg to the elderly.

2.55 pm - we tried the squid mihun when we reached home. We didn't pour the gravy onto the mihun. The mihun has wok hei and has a fragrant charred taste.

3.11 pm - my portion which I ate all. The dark gravy has a very very light soy herb taste which he couldn't taste so he says no taste. 😂 I just drank a few spoonfuls of the watery dark gravy.

Next morning 44 because I ate 3.5 meals.

10.47 am - he saw this MYR 1.20++ offer on 12.dec.2023 so we went for it. He ordered 4 items for a total of 33.90 nett and both of us ate all of them. Food is as before, quite ok.

11.43 am - round 2 of brunch - coffee MYR 6.40++ and kaya butter toasts MYR 4.90++ which we shared.

12.04 noon - our favourite boneless fried chicken mihun MYR 16.90++ so total bill is MYR 32.70 nett.

1.28 pm - saw this kam.

1.27 pm - it says jelly kam so I bought 4 to try. Gave 3 to my friend who gave me a review:

140g. Very thin skin, light yellow flesh, very juicy tender sacs, not very sweet...still got fibre to discard after chewing. Tinge of fresh lime? Limau nipis fragrant??

9.51 am - I ate the remaining half of an avocado from his breakfast with a slice of wholemeal bread and one banana. Gave the elderly one banana too because not supposed to eat much banana due to potassium and ckd.

NKT Sotong King

 Yesterday, Thu 1.apr.21, we went for our weekly grocery shopping at the Midvalley Mall from about 10.30 am to 1.30 pm. We bought takeaway lunch from Nasi Kukus Tonggek kiosk in Aeon Food Court for my friend.

My friend took this photo for me when eating the big squid at 2.40 pm. The deep fried squid rice that costs MYR 18.90 nett consists of rice, cucumbers, deep fried squid, sambal and curry gravy. 

I also bought a side order of deep fried tempe in salted egg yolk gravy snack at MYR 7.90 nett for my friend. The salted egg yolk gravy tastes a bit sweet and not strong on the salted egg yolk, barely detectable. The tempe is very firm and tastes like brown dao ban jiang. The usual dao ban jiang is made from fermented broad beans, chili peppers, soybeans, salt and flour.

5.07 pm - both of us shared this big squid rice for our dinner. Since we have given our spicy sambal to my friend, we poured all the sweetish curry gravy over the squid to cover the deep fried oil taste. The squid can be easily chewed because my friend suspects that it has been soaked in baking soda aka bicarbonate of soda to tenderize it.

Total price for two big squid rice and one snack is MYR 45.70 nett.

10.54 am - a small bowl of beef brisket and tendon noodle in soup at MYR 14.90++ and a big bowl of 6 Wantons and 3 sui gao aka dumplings at MYR 22.90++ because a small bowl wouldn't be enough for both of us since I like to eat the Wantons and dumplings of this eatery. 

The beef tendon has a lot of slippery membranes covering it which makes me a bit queasy to eat it as these membranes are usually removed for beef tendons served in my favourite beef noodle restaurant Yong Kang in Taipei. A normal eater would find the small bowl of noodles to be too little but I like the small portion size because it leaves me room in my stomach for Wantons and dumplings.

10.57 am - A small portion of luncheon meat lard rice at MYR 14.90++ which is just rice fried in light lard oil since not much lard taste and definitely no deep fried lard aka ju yao zhar in the rice. I ate a bit of the fried egg white since I don't eat runny yolks, a bit of rice, a piece of cucumber and a piece of luncheon meat which is very tasty.

Shared this milk tea in ice at MYR 8.50++ before he asked me to drink it all because he tastes milk at the bottom.

Total price is MYR 71 nett, a bit over our brunch budget but a very satisfying Brunch so it was worth the price but maybe not worth the risk if we catch anything. At 10.38 am, there was only one table occupied so we went in to dine in. At 11.30 am, when we went to pay our bill, there were 3 tables occupied by customers. Hopefully we didn't catch anything.

All on a Saturday:
Breakfast (9am) at Swee Hing:

Customised Char Kway Teow at MYR 7 nett with Kway Teow and Yellow Noodles without cockles (see ham) and without waxed sausages (lap cheong). On the salty side but tasty enough for returns.

We share a bowl of Pan Mee (half eaten) - MYR 6.50 nett at this eatery once a week without fail. The Hainan Tea (coffee mixed with tea) at MYR 1.80 nett is thick, smooth with a strong tea taste. This shared meal for 2 pax gave us enough energy to do laundry, weeding and house cleaning until lunch time.

Lunch (2 pm):

Deep fried salt and chilli pepper squid at MYR 19 nett. The way they do it here is very different from the one that we like but they are still tasty with thin batter fully covering the pieces of squid. My favourite steamed 3 types of eggs (normal chicken egg, century egg and salted egg) dish at MYR 8 nett for the smallest portion. One plate of rice to be shared by 2 pax.

It was a very hot afternoon so each of us ordered our own iced drink. The total price for lunch is MYR 32.70 nett without a breakdown for the rice, herbal drink and iced cham (coffee mixed with tea) so my guess is MYR 1.50 nett for the rice, MYR 1.20 nett for the herbal tea and MYR 2 nett for the iced cham.

Dinner (630 pm) at Teak Kee:

This is a special dinner for 4 pax to celebrate one of our birthday on 2 of us.

We ordered this Red fish at MYR 9 per 100g so for 800g the price is MYR 72 nett because the birthday star likes to eat fish and it was steamed in light soy sauce with ginger and coriander garnishing. Tasty with a lot of smooth and fine textured fish flesh. I believe this fish is 红皂((Hóng zào in putonghua or Ang Zhor in Hokkien or ikan jenahak in BM or red snapper). Please correct me if I am wrong.

Half a roast chicken which we always order when we dine at this eatery. The price now is MYR 49 nett and it used to be MYR 43 nett back in 2016.

薯苗- Sweet Potatoes Shoots (Leaves), one of our favourite vegetable dish at MYR 16 nett.

Fruits (foc) to cleanse the palate at the end of dinner.

Total price is MYR 150 nett. We ordered 3 plates of rice (small portion) at MYR 1 nett each as I did not want to eat any rice for dinner. The titbits at MYR 4 nett is referring to a plate of fish crackers for us to snack on while waiting for the main dishes to be served. A pot of tea with unlimited refillable hot water costs MYR 1.50 nett per pax. We are regulars at this eatery so we will be back. We were just at this eatery a few weeks ago for dinner to celebrate mother's day.

WG The Kraken

The last time I was at Publika Mall was back in 2015, about 4 years ago. Recently my friends wanted to buy customised smartphone casings at the flea market there so we ate lunch at The Red Bean Bag which I previously visited on Sunday 29 March  2015.

The Kraken - MYR 30++ (10% service charge, 6% SST = MYR 34.80 nett). Squid ink pasta with one whole grilled tender squid in creamy curry sauce. My friend ate everything except the deep fried curry leaves so I believe this dish is tasty. A glass bottle of plain drinking water is provided foc.

I ordered this dish because it has the RBB recommended sign next to it - Black Sheep at MYR 32++ (MYR 37.12 nett) - not a PC name for a burger but the lamb patty is juicy, not fatty with the nice fragrance of lamb. The slices of gherkin are very appetising. There are tomatoes, onions, lettuces, sunny side up egg, and mayo. The two rings are deep fried onion rings. As I do not eat runny yolk, I gave the egg to my friend. Kept half of the burger and fries for dinner.

Fowl Luck - MYR 26++ (MYR 30.16 nett). There is one whole chicken leg and half a chicken breast on top of roasted potatoes and mushrooms so big eaters will be full after finishing this dish.

Two of my friends shared The Softshell crab burger MYR 35++ (MYR 40.6 nett) which has a special spicy sauce. The plate of hash brown costs MYR 7++ (MYR 8.12 nett).

Total bill for 5 pax is MYR 174 nett. An average of MYR 34.80 nett per pax. Two of my friends ordered flat white to go at MYR 10++ (MYR 11.60 nett) each.

The Red Bean Bag is located on Floor 1. It has a bench for people who need to wait for seats to sit on.

Hou Keng restaurant

During weekday 4 of us went to a friend's restaurant for lunch. We ordered a small pot of curry vegetables - MYR14 nett and a small portion of salted egg yolk squid - MYR16 nett which was very crispy and delicious.

One small steamed tilapia at MYR20 nett.

This restaurant is at Taman Bukit Mayang Emas and total bill for 4 pax is only MYR61.70 nett (around MYR15.45 nett per pax only). 

SuperThai

After reading PH's many posts about the delicious Pork Knuckle in Sweet and Sour Sauce at SuperThai Restaurant, I went there for lunch yesterday at about 12.15 noon only to be told that it is not available. The waitress was not very fluent in English so communication is a bit difficult. I asked if it is available for dinner and she answered yes because it takes a long time to prepare and cook it. So tough luck, we can't have it for lunch then. Guess next time I will have to call up to make sure that the pork knuckle is available before coming here for lunch. Oh well, since we were already there, we ordered other dishes instead of leaving.

Grilled Pork Neck with the garlic, coriander, lime and etc green dip - MYR28 nett. The dip is sourish and garlicky so I like it. I like the pork neck meat too as it was lean but not dry. The neck meat is marbled intermittently with cartilage, tendon and very little fat so it was chewy but tender. Very nice texture.

Mango Salad - MYR15 nett. I picked out all the red bird's eye chili so it was okay for me. The mango salad was sourish, spicy and crunchy. I also ate all the raw little gem lettuce, long beans and cabbage.

A bowl of Pork Soup - MYR8 nett and a bowl of Tom Yum Soup - MYR8 nett. Both are tasty.

We ordered steamed stuffed squid but was told again that the stuffings were not available so we changed our order to grilled squid. We were surprised to get two huge squids that were chewy yet tender, very delicious! We thought for MYR20 nett, there would be only one squid.

Grilled squid - MYR20 nett - is served with the same green dip as the one for the grilled pork neck. Just look at how small the normal sized fork is when compared to the huge squids.

We ordered 3 plates of rice which was served together in a bowl for us to apportion the rice ourselves among the 4 of us. Each plate of rice costs MYR3 nett.

I like the taste of ice coffee with cardamon in it - MYR5 nett - it tastes like it has fruit syrup in it. The other drink we ordered is lemon grass drink at MYR2 nett.

The place is small and cozy. We were there early so we were the only customers there for a while.

As this restaurant is on the 1st floor, we need to walk up this narrow flight of stairs. I would not have dared to enter this doorway if I did not know beforehand how good the food is.

Total bill is MYR95 nett. Payment in cash only. Good price for tasty food. I will definitely be back for the pork knuckle. After this scrumptious lunch, we went for dessert at another place recommended by PH. Guess where? :D

Updated later:
On 11 Dec 2016 (Sunday), the 3 of us went to SuperThai again to take away 2 dishes after our meal at Legend 31.

Sweet and Sour Pork knuckle at MYR 55 nett with 2 sauces: the green dip and the sweet and sour saiuce.

This time we managed to get the stuffed squids which were covered with chopped up garlic, red chili, green chili for MYR 28 nett.

I don't quite like the fillings because I can feel the pork fatty bits in it so we did not order this again the next time we visit SuperThai.

Mom prepared tempeh, pickled cucumbers, and stirfry cabbage and carrots as the family dinner to go with the food we bought.
