WG Gravy Baby

Our plan was to eat at Senya Izakaya, Jalan P. Ramlee so the car was parked at Fraser Place, Jalan Perak for 2 hours (MYR 7 nett). To our horror, when we walked to where Senya Izakaya used to be, the whole place was boarded up for renovation so we ate at the nearby Gravy Baby.

My order: Steak & Ale pie with Parsley Gravy and two side dishes - Chunky Chips and Mashed Peas at MYR 32++ (10% service charge and 6% SST = MYR 37.12 nett). One pie with gravy but without any side dishes costs MYR 24++ (MYR 27.84 nett). I like the taste of the peas and fries but kept half of every item for another meal.

I like this steak & ale pie, very tasty tender cubes of beef in the pie and buttery pastry pie crust.

My friend's thick minestrone soup with lots of ingredients in it  at MYR 23++ (MYR 26.68 nett).

I could not resist ordering this Strawberry Milkshake at MYR 18++ (MYR 20.88 nett). It is so creamy and milky that I felt I am 2 kg heavier after drinking this satisfying beverage.

Total bill for two pax: MYR 112.50 nett.

Shopfront - Gravy Baby at Jalan P. Ramlee. There is another branch at Taman Desa which I will try to visit soon for my pies.

Menya ShiShiDo

Menya ShiShiDo has been around since 2015 but I only know about them recently when their shop in Jaya One reopened in Sept 2019 after renovation. They used to have a branch in Sri Petaling which is no longer there now.

We plan to order this Lipon Yaki Buta Ramen with the huge slab of pork belly which is available with 3 toppings - BBQ, Spicy or Coriander Spicy at MYR 41 nett. The broth is available in a single flavour or a mixture of 2 flavours or 3 flavours. The colourful circles at the bottom of the menu denote the various flavours.

Unfortunately we were told that the ramen we wanted was not available so we ordered this Yaki Buta Ramen instead which has two pieces of the same pork belly.

Yaki Buta Ramen - MYR 29 nett. We selected a single flavour broth which is black garlic broth and coriander spicy toppings for the pork belly. The broth is thick but not too thick so it was not cloying. The egg has the taste of bonito flakes so it is delicious. The ramen noodles texture is firm but soft enough and the portion is big. They also serve tsukemen which is ramen served with soup in a separate bowl.

The single flavours of the broth are: white for original pork broth, black for black garlic pork broth and red for spicy pork broth.

Yellow for Curry pork broth, Green for Basil Pork Broth and Orange Red for Pepper Spicy Pork Broth.

We also ordered Chasu Ramen at MYR 21 nett each in original pork broth and basil pork broth because we do not want any spicy broth. The Basil pork broth is refreshing and very tasty so we will have that but mixed with black garlic pork broth next time.

Total price for 3 pax is MYR 71 nett.

Please click on the above photo for a larger image. For those who would like to eat rice, there are 6 types of rice dishes:
1, Deep fried chicken with rice - MYR 15 nett,
2. Fried Chicken with NanBan sauce and rice - MYR 16 nett (NanBan sauce is made from rice vinegar, mirin or sake, soy sauce, sugar, pepper flakes or ginger),
3. Ginger pork rice - MYR 14 nett,
4. Sweet and sour chicken rice - MYR 16 nett,
5. Japanese Chicken Curry rice - MYR 14 nett,
6. Japanese Chicken Curry rice with tomato - MYR 16 nett and a bowl of plain white rice - MYR 5 nett.

Menya ShiShiDo at Level P2, Jaya One, PJ. We arrived at about 3 pm on a Saturday to find many people in the waiting list so we wrote down our names and went for a walk around Jaya One. After 45 minutes we got our seats and food arrived pretty fast after we placed our orders.

*** KakiYuki ***

Kakiyuki at the Gardens Mall is now open for business. It is formerly known as Kakigori.

Opening promotion but need to follow or tag their fb.

I was in the Gardens Mall on Monday but I didn't know about this promotion then or else I would have buy one of these two and get the other or another free.

I was in the Gardens Mall on Tuesday (yesterday) too but my friend doesn't eat ice and I couldn't possibly eat two bowls by myself so no go again.

I won't be there for the rest of the week so no deal for me.

These two look tasty!

Hmmmm, maybe my friend would want to go on Friday. I can but hope. Those working in Midvalley Mall can make use of this promo.

Auntie Anne Pretzel Nuggets

A paper cup of cheese nuggets from Auntie Anne's with 12 nuggets at MYR 9.90 nett.

The cheese fillings are very creamy so I just eat one nugget a day for 8 days and gave 4 nuggets to my friend.

Auntie Anne's kiosk at Midvalley Mall. I have not bought any food from them before.

But I saw this banner and thought the additional 4 nuggets are foc so it is a good deal so I bought a cup of 12 nuggets but after looking at the price for 8 nuggets which is MYR 7.90 nett, I am paying an additional MYR 2 nett to get 4 extra nuggets but I did not know this at that time when I bought it. Just a lesson to check the price properly if you mind these things but I am not losing any sleep over this misunderstanding on my part. The average price per nugget for 12 nuggets (9.9/12 = MYR 0.825 per nugget) is still lower than the average price per nugget for 8 nuggets (7.9/8 = MYR 0.9875 per nugget).

Cheese Nuggets are listed under the "Savory Pretzels" section. Please click on the above photo for a larger image.

They should state how many nuggets for the price above. Recently, I asked the cashier and the answer is MYR 7.90 nett gives you 8 cheese nuggets and MYR 9.20 nett gives you 6 sausage bites. As I do not crave for this taste, I don't think I will be buying any more because I find the price to be on the high side. If I love this taste, I won't mind the price.

This cake display is at Aeon Food Court near Aeon Supermarket, Midvalley Mall.

This pandan layer cake reminded me of my favourite pandan layer cake from Golden Bake bakery in SS2, PJ which is no longer operating so I bought one pack to eat though the taste is not as delicious as the one from Golden Bake, SS2, PJ. There are a few bakeries named Golden Bake in the Klang Valley but they are not the same shop as the one in SS2, PJ that I used to frequent.

The pandan layer cakes are sold at this "Wonderful Cake House" kiosk.

I cut this cake into 9 equal pieces and eat one piece a day.

The receipts for both snacks which I could and should do without though they are tasty in their own right and easy to eat.

Hokkaido Durian Cheese Tart

Ever since NuxV mentioned that she likes this Hokkaido Durian Cheese Tart back in March 2019, I have been wanting to try it but never got around to doing so until last week on 23 Oct 2019 (Wednesday) when I saw a promotion of buy 6 cheese tarts and get 2 free at their kiosk in Secret Recipe, Midvalley Mall. The durian taste is authentic in the creamy cheese fillings. The pastry crust is sweet and a bit on the thick side. I ate one immediately after buying it and found that the fillings are very soft, almost in liquid form so the next day, I ate one frozen tart and found it to be too hard. Guess I should try one that is very cold but not frozen. Maybe next time I would do so as I have given away the rest (6) to my friends so I could not try it from this batch.

This is the Wednesday promotion in Oct 2019 - buy 6 regular sized tarts and get 2 regular sized tarts free. There is one Wednesday left in Oct (30 Oct 2019) to take advantage of this promotion.

The takeaway price is less than the dine-in price. Original and Chocolate Cheese Tarts are priced at MYR 5.80 nett each for takeaways.

Cookies and Cream, Blueberry and Durian Cheese Tarts are priced at MYR 6.60 nett each for takeaways.
I only wanted Durian Cheese Tarts so I got 6+2 of them. The total price is MYR 6.60 x 6 = MYR 39.60 nett so one Durian cheese tart costs MYR 4.95 nett which is a good price (a 25% discount).

Now they are having a promotion for chicken curry pie too. Buy 5 and get 1 free at a total price of MYR 29 nett so it is about MYR 4.83 nett per chicken curry pie. I have not tried this pie because I prefer beef pies. I hope they will have beef pies too.

Secret Recipe, Midvalley Mall occupies a corner shop unit and Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart has a counter on one side.

Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart Counter is next to the Cakes Display Counter.

Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart counter.

Please click on the above photo for a larger image. Left: Red Velvet Cake. Right: Premium Black Forest Cake. They both have the same price - dine in price for one slice is MYR 12.90 nett and takeaway price for one slice is MYR 11.80 nett. So I will bring my own container to buy one slice of Premium Black Forest for takeaway to save from using a cardboard box.
