Mix and Match

Monday 22.nov.21 is kid 1's day and also the day where those people who would like to register for the booster vaccination can so at any clinics that provide this booster vaccination. We called the nearest clinic to register at around 11 am and were placed in a waiting list with about 30 persons in front of us. At 2.20 pm we received a call from the clinic saying got slots available so we quickly went there and got our booster vaccination which is a mix and match. So far till now at 3 am I am still feeling ok, no fever and no headache.

11.50 am - his lunch of lam Mee bought the previous day from tuck tuck tei coffee shop.

5.06 pm - my one meal of the day to clear all food from previous days from the fridge.

6.24 pm - his dinner of hokkien style stir fry noodles and Mee hoon bought from Tien Yuen coffee shop after our booster vaccination as we parked the car near the coffee shop and walked to the clinic.

Tien Yuen Ice Coffee

There is a new coffee shop in my neighbourhood. I noticed it early this year in January 2021.

I have bought a few items from it such as char kway teow, wanton noodles, roast chicken rice, ice coffee drink but I only have this photo of an egg tart from this coffee shop to show.

Tien Yuen Ice Coffee Shop front. It is on fb. The fb page says that they have a soy bar too. Maybe I will check that out one day but for now, I find the coffee shop space to be a bit cramped so I don't like to go there as it is difficult to distance oneself from other people

Midvalley after 89 days

Saturday 20.2.21 is CNY Day 9 where Hokkiens bai tian gong aka pray to the Jade Emperor. The fireworks and prayers start on the night of CNY Day 8. During the day of CNY Day 8, I spotted street vendors selling long sugar canes tied together with red ribbons to be used for the prayers.

Yesterday I went to Midvalley Mall to buy groceries after my previous trip there on Sunday 22.11.20 which is 89 days ago.

As it was a weekday, there wasn't that many people around but the shops are all opened for business. There are new shops too. We didn't dine in, just buy takeaway food after buying the groceries.

CNY decor for Midvalley Mall. Very clean lines and minimalist, refreshing to the eyes.

The Gardens Mall just put up red ribbon banners to make it look like a big lantern hanging up there.

Saw this Tiffany light blue cake at Tokyo Secret Cafe. Don't think I can eat a cake with this light blue colour.

Nene chicken is now Mala Mala. Back in July 2020, Nene chicken restaurant was closed.

Honolulu Cafe is now replaced by Sushi Jiro.

Happy to see Hazukido  croissants being sold here.

Ban Heang kiosk. I stopped by here to buy the assam laksa Puff. Will be in my next post.

Sek Tong n NeNe Chicken

Sek Tong, Midvalley Mall is finally opened for business. I have not looked at their menu yet. There is a "no pork no lard" signboard.

They are occupying the spot left vacant by Old Town White Coffee at Midvalley Mall.

Nene Chicken, Midvalley Mall - not opened yet or closed forever?

11.13 am - I start my day with a sweet pie! The only remaining McD pie from the previous day.

11.30 am - continue my food intake with a remaining half of McD nasi lemak cold from the fridge. The sambal was very spicy and salty but I ate them all. The rice tastes very rich from the coconut milk. These two items kept me full until 4.47 pm.

4.47 pm - was hungry so finished the remaining half chicken breast and one chicken wing from McD 3 pieces of fried regular chicken from the previous day (MYR 14.99 nett).

continue to finish all these blanched bok choy without any sauces or oil. At 6 pm, mouth was itching to eat some sweet items so devour a small packet of Tiger biscuits (60g with about 10 to 12 pieces inside - I will count them next time) and one small packet of Le-Mond crackers with lemon fillings. I am truly a cookie monster. So that completes my food intake for the day.

1 pm - not-my-lunch of cintan curry noodles with bok choy and all the remaining ayam percik from Tuesday 14 July 2020 d119.

Royal Vanilla cupcakes from WonderMilk. MYR 4.50 nett each. Sweet pink roses.

Two boxes of them, to be delivered to my friend's house.

A surprise gift for my lovely co-worker who handed in her company lap top this Friday and will start her new career on Monday. All the best to her! One dozen cupcakes at MYR 53 nett. I hope everyone in the family loves this cupcake cos I only chose one type which is Royal Vanilla which is her favourite cup cake but she can and will only eat one. Lolx!

The last time we talked face to face was on 17 March 2020 Tuesday (123 days ago) when she picked me up from my house at 10 o'clock at night to go to the office to bring my laptop home so that I can work at home and I have been working at home since and have not met any of my other co-workers so we did not have a farewell lunch with her. Hopefully these surprise cupcakes will make her day.

Two Rooms

Still on Thu 8 Nov 2018 Day 3 in Taipei - 6.30 pm - the free for all snacks in the hotel common room.

The hotel common room with free flow self service coffee machine and free for all snacks which are replenished daily.

This was room 1 - the entrance is facing the entrance of the bathroom.

Frosted glass sliding doors for the bathroom.

With windows and mirror.

Two double beds because there were 4 of us.

Basic but clean room.

Each bed has its own bedside unit.

This is how the entrance to almost all buildings in Taipei looks like - with a counter where the security guard sits at. He sits so low that only the top of his head can be seen in this photo.

This is the room that we checked in to rest for just a few hours from 3.30 pm to 9.30 pm but I think we pay the full price for the use of this room.

A smaller room.

With just one big bed. Bye bye room at 9.20 pm.

The check in and check out counter. An old fashion weighing machine to weigh luggage. So we took the MRT to the airport and just sit and rest on the chairs in the airport until boarding our flight back home in the wee hours.

Fri 9 Nov 2018 - 12.30 noon - back and waiting for luggage. Home sweet home and bye forever Taipei!

*** Thursday 9 July 2020 d114 ***

10.40 am - my portion of takeaway breakfast from a nearby coffee shop - wanton noodles with siew yuk with green chilies. I bought a big portion at MYR 8.50 nett for 2 pax sharing and we just eat directly from the plastic bag.

11 am - continue to eat half of this chee cheong fun (1 roll, 2 slices ccf) with 1 slice of bean curd sheet and 1 okra stuffed with fish paste (ytf). I asked for the brown sauce to be poured directly onto the chee cheong fun because I intended to eat this ccf immediately when back home and I did not want another bag with brown sauce. Two of us shared this pack of ccf that costs MYR 5.50 nett. We also bought century egg, salted egg and minced meat congee for 1 pax for lunch.

Still not comfortable dining in coffee shops seeing that some countries had to lock down certain areas again so had to continue to buy takeaways and continue to practise the 3Cs - avoid crowded places, avoid confined places (go open air places) and avoid close conversations; and 3Ws - wash hands with soap, wear masks and warn oneself to do the following: don't touch other people (no handshakes), cover mouth when cough or sneeze, clean and disinfect common places, stay home as much as possible and seek treatment if one has symptoms.

6.30 pm - my portion of congee.

7 pm - a bowl of home cooked red bean tong sui with 90% red beans and 10% water so it is like eating red bean paste which I like.

myElephant

This was way before MCO, I walked around Happy Mansion, Section 17, looking for food for lunch and saw this lunch menu with prices from MYR 9.90 upwards. The dishes sound tasty but I did not feel like having rice so I ended up eating chee cheong fun at Chit Chat Corner, a few shops away from this shop. Please click on the above menu for a larger image.

I like Red Ruby dessert but not at MYR 10 for my normal lunch, maybe for a special occasion.

Touch up

The Grocer's Canteen (Jaya Grocer) at the Gardens Mall has reopened after being closed for renovation.

This dining area used to be a serving counter.

The salad counter is still at the same location.

This is the main counter now with Cook for you! service.

Please click on the above photo to view the menu boards.
