Yulek Market

After reading RG's article about "Healthy Breakfast @ Yulek Market", I had to go and try it. I have not been to that market before so I missed a few turns on the way there and had to drive around a bit but I got there in the end.

I bought at least one each of all the types of food being sold at the healthy breakfast stall so that I get to try them all. Not too much because I shared them with my family.

Sago kuih (cake) with coconut flakes. MYR1 nett for one piece.

Nice to eat. Not too sweet. Would need RG to let me know what sugar or honey is being used to make this.

Steamed pumpkin cake - MYR3.50 nett per pack with 2 pieces in it.

Made from pumpkin and a type of healthy noodle. Would need RG's help again to let me know what kind of noodle this is made from. Taste good.

Savoury sago cakes - MYR2.80 nett for 1 pack with 2 cakes in it. There are two types for me to select - 1. chye poh (perserved vege) with dried shrimps (hay bee) and 2. Spicy sambal and I bought one pack each.

This is the one with chye poh (perserved vege) with dried shrimps (hay bee). The taste is perfect. My siblings like it and praise that it is very well-made.

Savoury sago cakes - MYR2.80 nett for 1 pack with 2 cakes in it. This one is with spicy sambal.

Side view.

Not too spicy so it is just right for me - this is the healthy version of pulut panggang because it tastes as good as a delicious pulut panggang.

White fungus sweet soup - MYR3 nett. Can tell that there is honey in it. Nice.

Pumpkin millet oats porridge  - MYR3 nett. I thought this is a savoury porridge but turns out it is slightly on the sweet side. I like it because I like to eat oats and with pumpkin, the oats taste great!

Mint Lemon Drink - MYR2 nett. Very refreshing with the fragrance of lemon and mint.

These muffins are made from yogurt. I have not eaten them yet so I will update this when I have eaten them. They are now in my fridge. Update: I am surprised to find out that they are banana muffins when I ate them. Moist and full of banana goodness.

I also bought 3 curry puffs at MYR1.80 nett each. My spouse says that it tastes good. I did not eat any because I am eating healthy food.

I took some time looking at all the stalls there before locating the correct one. The stall is the one with a man in yellow t-shirt sitting in front of it. RG, please correct me if I have written anything wrong here about the food. It is a pity that this market is quite far from my place else I would love to visit this stall every weekend for the healthy food.

  3. Wahhh, how come you got to buy so many different types of kuih?? I thought she usually makes 1 or 2 types per day only.

My mom uses brown sugar instead of white sugar in her recipes. Also, that "healthy noodles" is mee sua. I don't know how they became so thick though. That's her secret, I think. :P

Yes yes, that is the correct stall. Thanks for the write up by the way, I will show this to my mom! :P

  5. I love all the desserts you bought and had no idea there is this Yulek Market in the area I used to frequent before. The Hospice Malaysia is just located in the opposite housing area.

I have eaten the Sago Kuih in other places and I could guess that they used brown sugar with Gula Melaka added in. That was what my Malay friend taught me when I learnt to make kuih-kuih from him over 20 years ago! LOL

  11. Wow I really salute you for this. You made your way there although it is a place you've never been to.

Everything you bought looks so good. It is obvious they are made with much care and passion into it. It would be nice if I can appear there one day to try all these.
