Another Trotter

We ended at Pat Kin Pat Sun, Sri Petaling on another occasion due to having parked nearby again and also ordered another dish - Vinegar Pork Trotter - from the August promotion menu which gives 30% off so from MYR14.60 nett we only pay MYR10.20 nett. It did not come with rice so we had to order a bowl of rice (ala carte) at MYR2.10 nett.

The gravy of this vinegar pork trotter is thick and tastes sweeter than sourish. I think it is made from some type of dark thick caramel soy sauce with a little vinegar added to it. There is one hard boiled egg too.

The other item we ordered from the same August promotion menu is this "Sampan" (small fishing boat) porridge at MYR6.90 nett which we only paid MYR4.80 nett after the 30% discount. Total price is MYR17.10 nett for two persons. Good enough meals although we would prefer to eat at Tea Garden.

  1. LOL at the title...u r now in pork trotter season? that gravy looks thick, good to eat with plain rice. So, what's in the sampan porridge? chicken? pork? fish chunks?

    1. Pork trotter is good to eat at anytime, no need to have seasons. ;p No chicken, no pork and no fish chunks, just some dried squid slices, ginger strips, and I can't remember what else - maybe peanuts.

  2. A friend once cooked vinegar pork trotter for me. The recipe was from Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, the English celebrity chef, campaigner etc. It was good but quite morish. The gravy was thick, dark and a nice balance of sweetness and tartness.

    1. I wonder whether vinegar pork trotter cooked with a recipe from an English celebrity chef tastes any different from Chinese style vinegar pork trotter.

    2. I have never had Chinese style vinegar pork trotter however the recipe from Hugh was Chinese style.

I appreciated the thought that someone had taken the effort to cook it for me.

  5. I like pork trotter, but not pork trotter in vinegar. That thing, I am under the impression that it is pregnant woman food. :/

  6. Sampan porridge? Is it fish porridge??

Vinegar pork trotter. My favourite. I personally perfer the trotter to be in between sweet and sour. It is the sugar they added in to make it sweet and thick.

    1. Sampan porridge is Hong Kong porridge called Teng Chai Juk. Not fish porridge.

Must be a lot of sugar then.

    1. Since the gravy is full of sugar as it was sweet, we did not eat too much of it but it goes with plain rice or plain porridge.
