SalSal

Last weekend I was at One Utama and I remembered reading contact.ewew's post about KyoChon 1991 and the way she described the chicken breast made me think that they are just my cup of tea. I don't like food with sauces, I prefer to savour the natural taste of food so when I read the word bland, it got my attention. No food is bland to me. Every food has its natural fragrance that I could detect and appreciate so I said to myself I must try the SalSal Strips.

SalSal Strips (small portion - 4 pieces) for MYR10.60 (inclusive of GST 6%) for takeaway. Dine in will incur service charges. Those puff up little white bits in the crust are rice.

I was so disappointed when I bite into a strip. The meat has been marinated and appeared to have a tinge of pink and it tasted slightly salty. Ah well, so much for expecting to taste the natural sweetness of chicken breast meat. I find the batter crust to be a little thick for my liking, felt like biting into flour.

Nice sturdy takeaway box - cost factored into the food price I guess.

Quite a large outlet at One Utama

Seats are occupied

    1. Their main dishes are deep fried chicken wings and drumsticks that are advertised as healthy and tasty because they use chilled chicken with no growth hormones and no drugs and deep fried them with low cholesterol oil.

    1. I believe yes, Korean. I think your Taiwanese post is not out yet.

  5. I'm like that too - I'd prefer to savour the natural ingredients rather than add sauces.

    1. The dots are not soft so should not be geli. I think you will like the chicken wings with various sauces.

  8. ah, the Korean fried chicken that was a hit due to the drama series!! hmm, I think it's quite impossible to taste the very natural sweetness of a chicken in eateries outside, all must be using frozen chicken and when it comes to frozen chicken there must be seasoning and marinating.. the best place for your desire to have "real chicken" taste, cook it yourself at home using live chicken!!! hehe~~ :p

    1. This place uses chilled chicken and they say you can taste the natural flavour of their healthy chicken so that's why I have high expectation of it.

  9. So, it falls flat on you? But at least you try it out.

    1. No the taste is not flat. In fact it is well marinated. I think you will like it after dipping it in sauces.

  10. That bland chicken strips is already too salty for you... I think the best thing for you is KFC then, buy it and remove the skin, their meat is really bland! XD

    1. I think Mun will find the KFC chicken meat even more savoury than the SalSal strips!

    2. This is supposed to be a class above KFC.

  12. There's only one thing you can eat here...and that is their fried chicken. But, you being you, you obviously had to go for the very thing I found to be bland...which, as it turned out, wasn't even bland for you. Wow, you really have a very high tolerance for bland food or a very, very low tolerance for salt.

The only way to savour the natural taste of food is to eat it raw or cook it yourself at home (but then you don't cook). I'm surprised, at the frequency you eat out, that you can find (any) food to your taste and liking (as most will be flavourful to cater to 99% of the masses)!

    1. I have very sensitive taste buds and can detect very subtle taste in food. When I eat out most of the time it is eat to live so I turn off my sensitive taste buds and eat like a robot. During weekends, I live to eat a little so I turn my sensitive taste buds back on.

  13. what are those bubble-like crust on this dish?
hehe can I say something funny here? It's not about the food but the name of it.. In our language, this "salsal" has a different meaning and I bet you wouldn't want to hear that hehe
You might want to search the term and what it means in Tagalog... it's kinda related to sexual thing LOL..

    1. Maybe they purposely use this name for the food, because eating food gives you satisfaction, doing "that" gives you satisfaction too

    2. Those bubble like thingy in the crust are rice. Ok, I looked it up. Ok, the word is used for something that I believe most guys do. Libby theory is very interesting. I don't know whether it means anything in Korean.

    1. The box is put in a very nice paper bag with your idol on the paper bag too. You can reuse the bag and look at your idol - very useful bag, right?

  16. I love this outlet and they have very unique ways to fry the chicken. Luckily my wife is a vegan and this prevents me from being addicted to this outlet. I need to go and try their new menus.
