The red dragon fruit is one of my favourite fruit. It is the fruit of some cactus species. I eat it by removing its skin like in the above photo and just bite into its red purplish flesh. After eating this fruit, don't be alarmed if one notices the red colour when visiting the washroom the next day.
It has many seeds. If you do not like to eat salad with raw vegetable due to the raw vegetable taste, you may not like to eat this fruit because there is a very slight raw taste to it despite being mildly sweet.
There are dragon fruits with white flesh.
I bought 3 for MYR10.47 so it is MYR3.49 each.
There are white ones too.
ReplyDeleteYes, like I already mentioned above.
DeleteHI mun, thanks always for the support of my blog. I really appreciate. Im hugging you right now----virtually. haha.
ReplyDeleteI've tasted that before here in the Philippines, but i think their size here in the PH is like those of the apple. Those black seads (bead like) makes a say as you bite the fruit. For me watermelon, green/sweet mango and grapes are my fave.
Here is bigger than an apple. I like to eat all fruits, can't think of one that I don't like.
Deleteoh I know this one.. the dragon fruit.. I haven't tasted the red one but the I had a chance to eat the Chinese Dragon fruit.. the one with white flesh.. wonder if they got the same taste
ReplyDeleteThe taste is about the same but the red ones are sweeter than the white ones.
DeleteAll my kids prefer white flesh. I guess the red colour scared them off. Haha. The stain on hands and shirts also put me off but I do not mind eating both red and white dragon fruits. They said red has more Vitamins than white.
ReplyDeleteI thought children love colours. Eating natural colours food is supposed to be good.
DeleteI've eaten the white ones too.. Red ones too messy to deal with, especially with the hands and clothes, and especially with kids, haha..
ReplyDeleteYou eat the red ones alone lah.
DeleteI think is purple before that, but when I saw it I see is purple...but anyway despite the color as long it taste good then fine.
ReplyDeleteYou don't like the colour?
DeleteI didn't quite like the dragonfruit when I first ate it, but after a few times I tend to accept it and yeah, it's nice whether white or red.. it has lots of nutrients and is a good fruit to eat..
ReplyDeleteSince you did not like it initially how come you continue to eat it? Because of its nutrients?
DeleteI like to eat both the red and white ones but it's difficult to cut and I'm too lazy for that.
ReplyDeleteJust need to cut into half and eat with a spoon like phong hong or peel it like the above and cut into half and eat with a fork. No need to cut into small cubes.
DeleteI don't like raw vegetables, but I love these red dragon fruit! #bestfruitever
ReplyDeleteYou don't taste the raw taste in the red dragon fruit?
DeleteNot at all. But then, as we have already established, my tongue is probably broken, so it doesn't work as expected sometimes..
DeleteI would not say that your tongue is broken. Just that different people taste buds react differently to the various tastes.
DeleteI usually cut the fruit into 2 and scoop the flesh out with a spoon. At one time I blend it and drink as juice. Quite nice and refreshing.
ReplyDeleteYour method is easy to use to eat it but may accidentally scoop the skin a bit as well but the inner skin can still be eaten. For those who like to drink fruit juice can blend it to drink as juice like you said.
Deletewhy didnt share how to cut it open? i have no idea :D
ReplyDeletehowever i love to eat them! all the colours is fine!
I only cut it into half to eat with a fork after I have peeled it. To peel it, just hold the top skin and pull, the skin comes off easily when it is ripe.
DeleteAs for me, I don't remove the skin. I just cut it into half and scoop out the flesh to eat :)
ReplyDeleteSince the inner skin is also red like the flesh, sometimes you may have scooped some of the inner skin to eat too.
DeleteI don't think I had eaten dragon fruit before, or maybe only once, cos I seldom eat fruits
ReplyDeleteOh so you don't like to eat fruits?
DeleteMy wife always argued that many farmers inject dyes into the red ones!! Horrors!
ReplyDeleteSo she would eat the white ones only. Bleh!
I think she read them from some articles but who on earth would inject red dyes in the whole farm of fruits?? She replied - Look at China!
I think can grow your own if she fears people inject dyes.
