Happy Reunion Dinner!

Moh Teng Pheow Nyonya Koay

As I like to eat Nyonya Kuih, my friend recommended the above to me so I walked to Jalan Masjid (Masjid Road) which is off Chulia Street in search of it from Penang Road after finishing my bowl of cendol. The exterior does not look like an eatery at all so in trepidation I stepped inside to see an empty place with an old caretaker who said to me, "closed, closed". Then I saw the notice below:

They are closed from 1 Feb 2016 until 8 Feb 2016 and will resume business from 9 Feb 2016, the 2nd day of CNY. I guess they close and resume business early because many people like to eat nyonya kuih during CNY.

  1. Gong xi fa cai to you.

Most businesses close yesterday and tomorrow. Now very easy to find food during cny but need to be careful on price hike.

    1. Gong Xi Fa Cai to you too. The price of fast food like McD and KFC stays the same so can eat those if one doesn't mind.

  5. I heard of this place before, but never been to try it, because I rarely go for food hunting in Georgetown area unless directed by friends...

Here back in my taman in KL ah, most businesses remain open until 6PM last night, and they will open today too. Those ahpeks all say poor business this year, so even CNY also they will open >.< ...

    1. Here in Penang, around Elite, most shops are closed today. In Sri Petaling, I have seen notices that say that business will go on daily as usual it is like your taman in KL.

    2. Bayan Baru/Bayan Lepas area is a place that caters mostly to factory workers (At least that's what most shops think they are). They would mostly close even on normal weekends, let alone CNY. If you want some festive mood, better to head to town :/ ...

  6. Many places closed here too. Coffee shops open, prices double or more...and enjoying roaring business. Smart, those people.

  7. Wow! Another sweet memories today. My school was right behind and I studied there for 11 years. My classmate is the grandson of the Mok Family but he never brought any Nyonya Kueh for us to eat. Those years, that family only ran their production and all the Indian in Dotis would carry their kuehs and laksa on bamboo baskets to peddle daily. That was their humble beginnings. So we had to buy them from the Indians instead.
