I used to buy Aroma Nyonya kuih from Melaka Corner at One Utama or Mama Nyonya at IPC shopping centre. Recently I found out that a local coffee shop has started selling kuih from Aroma Nyonya at a better price than those eateries in shopping malls so now I just buy from the local coffee shop but I need to be early or else the kuih will all be sold out by 9.30 am. There is a stall in O&S coffee shop at Paramount Garden, PJ that sells Aroma Nyonya kuih too. All the photos below are kuih from Aroma Nyonya.
Various Aroma Nyonya kuih
Talam Keladi (Yam)
Bingka Ubi (Cassava Root - Ubi Kayu)
Ang ku, Talam and Getuk Getuk (made from ubi kayu)
Yes, I've tried the ones at O & S, very nice too - can compare with Lulu and Nyonya Colours but those do not come cheap. Are these cheaper? My friend bought so I do not know the prices.
ReplyDeleteHe also took me to a shop in that Paramount area, was telling me about how nice all the kuihs were...but he went and I waited in the car (I think we could not find a parking space so we were parked "illegally" some distance away) but he did not buy any, can't remember why - maybe we were too early.
Aroma nyonya kuih is definitely cheaper than nyonya color's and bigger too.
DeleteI like a few Nyonya kuih: onde-onde, the blue sticky rice with kaya & angku kuih.. If you give me these 3 types of kuih, I can wallop 15 pieces each!
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe you can eat 45 kuihs at one go! :O
DeleteYes, I did try some (only 3 actually so far) of the kuih here after you told me about it. Found it ok but still prefer the ones from Nyonya Colors. Sold out by 9.30am? I don't know which days you went but I usually go after church service on Sundays and that would be about 10am and when I leave after breakfast (probably just before 11am), there are still lots I can choose from to "tapau". I read from a magazine that the owner mans a stall in the Imbi market also (maybe you can try that some day).
ReplyDeleteDid you manage to try the angku with mung beans fillings? Those by aroma nyonya is definitely much better than nyonya color's unless your standards are very different. One thing for sure nyonya color's kuih are smaller, sweeter and more lemak. Smaller so more expensive.
DeleteMy local coffee shop that sold out daily is in sri petaling. I was not referring to o&s for that but that day I went o&s no more angku but many others that I don't care about so didn't buy any. O&s stall is selling them at a much higher price than the stall in sri petaling.
DeleteOne of my favorite places to buy kuih is Nyonya colors.
ReplyDeleteMy fav is always the bingka ubi especially the the burnt crust. Hahah
Yes very convenient to buy kuih at nyonya colors. I like to ewr bingka ubi too.
Deletethe nyonya kuih look familiar to me, i've seen them in kopitiam stalls also but i can't be sure if they are from Aroma Nyonya actually, i don't remember seeing the name embossed on the plastic packaging.. anyway, i love the red bean (the purple on in your first photo, is it red bean??), i love the yam, i love the talam, i love the bingka ubi.. and my favorite, the getuk getuk!! thanks mun, now i know what they are called, haha..
ReplyDeleteYes you right, those are red bean kuih. You are welcome! :)
DeleteI like those at MV kiosks too but expensivelah. Otherwise,I get them for Sri Petaling morning market...I am easy to please! ha!ha!
ReplyDeleteI agree nyonya colors kuih are expensive. Aroma nyonya kuih are sold by a stall in swee heng coffee shop in sri petaling. Have you been to that coffee shop?
DeleteSri petaling has two morning markets. Which one are you referring to?
DeleteSwee Heng? Not sure...may have seen but probably don't know its name. As for the morning market, I usually go to the one that has just moved to the covered car park opposite Jojo pan mee.
DeleteI know the market you are referring to. Swee Heng is located at the other part of sri petaling where sushi mentai and ipoh chicken rice shop are located.
DeleteNot easy to find really tasty nyonya kuih in Ipoh or I do not know where to look for them. The yam and ubi kayu kuih have me swallowing my saliva. Lol!
ReplyDeleteI like to eat those two too.
DeleteI never remember all these kuih names. I think one day when I write a post on these kuihs, I will forget again @.@
ReplyDeleteNo need to remember, just need to eat only, hehehehe!
DeleteAre they from the same shop Nyonya Colors or totally different shop? The kuehs look very similar... LIke you, I have sweet tooth for these desserts!
ReplyDeleteAll from Aroma Nyonya! Totally different shop from nc.
DeleteI also like nonya kuih a lot. I must look for this Aroma Nonya kuih to try.
ReplyDeleteMelaka corner at one utama lowest floor opposite sakae sushi, you can get them there.
DeleteI like seeing all these colourful kuihs, but I only eat a few types only, my fav is kuih talam, kuih lapis and ang ku.
ReplyDeleteKuih talam and angku are my favourite too.
DeleteI have a soft spot for nyonya kuih
ReplyDeleteThey sure are tasty!
DeleteThe kuih stall in O&S runs out quite fast. Normally sold out before lunch time.
ReplyDeleteThe ang ku is always sold out when I go there.
DeleteAha! I am also a fan of the Nyonya Kuehs like you. I often ate quick breakfasts at One-U's Little Cravings as they have good variety of kuehs. Eating them makes me feel warm like a child again.
ReplyDeleteI have eaten there before but I did not notice their nyonya kueh. Next time I must open my eyes bigger.
