Usual meal

A regular plate of "chap fan" (mixed rice) - one meat portion (Nam Yu Pork Slices) and two vege portions (Broccoli and Nai Pak - 奶白菜 which means Baby Pak Choy). For my explanation of "chap fan", please click here. Nam Yu is made from fermented soya beancurd with red glutinous wine lees (hong zhao/ ang zao/  红槽). I think this plate of "chap fan" costs MYR6 or MYR7 nett.

  2. I love these nam yu pork slices too! Come to think of it, I rarely seen them in Penang zhap fan stalls. Probably has to do with Penangites' loath of anything "too dry"...

  3. Your plate of chap fan looks good to me. I like veggie that looks green and not overcooked. I love anything with nam yee, so I think the meat will taste as good as its look.

  5. I would happily eat your 'economy rice'.

This is what 'economy rice' is all about. I suppose it's should ideally be labelled as 'economy rice 2016 price' as per Rose's comment.

Over here, it's either portioned out for you or it is weigh and price as 100g. One can still get selection of fresh fruits and salads in supermarkets in take-away box from bigger Tesco and Sainsbury. They are priced according to the size of the bowl. The ones from the Chinese eateries tend to be big portions but not of good quality.

    1. Priced by weigh is better, more accurately charged.
