Vegetarian meal

Rice with 4 dishes - 1) stirfried tonghoon, julienned carrots, cucumber, beancurd sheet; 2) pumpkin 3) stirfried chinese cabbage (wong nga pak) 4) petola with "mian jin/mean kan"  (wheat gluten - 麵筋)  for MYR3.80 only. This vegetarian meal tastes very good to me. Simple soup is also provided. I like the "mian jin" here as it is thick and soft, very nice texture.

This canteen is located in the compound of the chinese temple opposite Corus Hotel in the heart of KL.

Cashier counter - can you spot the nun?

After we have finished eating our food, we stacked our used plates here after throwing away any discarded food into the bins provided.  There is even a bin for leftover soup. I suspect that the food waste in these bins would be used to feed farmed animals.

    1. I think I saw some "fake meat" dishes there too so you will have something to eat there. :)

    2. The "fake meat" is much more fattening that real meat can ever be. That's why you can see a lot of obese vegetarians. I try to avoid those stuff as much as I can, unless they are zhai ngo XD.

    3. Why? Is "fake goose" different from other "fake meat"?

    4. Mun, the fake meats are made from flour and therefore high in carbohydrates, That's the fattening bit :)

    5. I thought the fake meats are soy products. Anyway why is fake goose different from fake meats in general?

  2. Oh, that temple is open again then? Last time I passed by while driving (2 or 3 years ago LOL), the whole temple compound was barricaded off. I thought they were going to tear it down. RM 3.80 is not bad at all, especially taking into consideration to location.

    1. I am not sure whether the temple underwent renovation or not. It sure looks the same to me when I was there 8 years ago. Directly opposite corus hotel.

    1. Normally vegetarian restaurants like lohas or living hut are expensive but not those run by temples or buddhist charities.

  6. I actually like vegetarian food a lot. My favourite place to go for really good vegetarian food is Lohas. But they are pricey which explains why I don't go there that often.

    1. If I am not mistaken, LOHAS serves organic food right? If yes, that explains the expensive price. For cheaper vegetarian food, those food stalls operated by temples and buddhist societies serve cheaper food.

  8. Aha used to go there when I was working at KLCC. I found that the price varies according to the cashier... your price would be from the 'cheap' cashier. :p
