Food on Sat 8.may.21, one day before Mother's day. Here's wishing all mothers who are reading this, a very happy mother's day! Stay home, stay safe, stay 2 metres distancing!
10.14 am - our shared brunch of pork stomach pepper soup meehoon at MYR 8.50 nett from million ocean coffee shop with self added vegetables.10.22 am - ordered Mcdelivery because of the pie out of stock the previous day. They circled the pie in the above bill and I am soon to find out why. This is the pie. I specifically bought two so that I can ensure I get to taste them properly.11.10 am - no name on the pack cover.11.11 am - nicely deep fried golden crust.
11.19 am - I tried to tear the pie into two parts with my bare hands, thinking that it would be easy to do so but it wasn't. The pastry crusts were crispy on the outside so they broke easily but on the inside, they were chewy so they didn't break but stretched out. I pulled and pulled and the above is the result.
Close up. I expected the white chocolate fillings to be in liquid form, like the fillings in a lava cake but they weren't. The white chocolate fillings were soft but not sticky in crumbly form.
When eaten on their own, the white chocolate fillings taste very sweet but when eaten together with the pastry crusts, the taste is just right, not too sweet. The fillings are milky and taste almost like yogurt with strawberries. To have a better photo, I decided to cut the 2nd pie using a knife.
11.36 am - to my surprise, the 2nd pie turned out to be a mango custard pie. Is this a genuine mistake or they are limiting the white chocolate pie to one per order? I can only wonder. Maybe that is the reason why they circled the pie in the printed bill. Now I have to buy another white chocolate pie to get a clean cross section.
11.49 am - finished up the samurai beef burger from the previous day. There is lots of mayo too with the teriyaki sauce.
5.41 pm - I requested for no chili mayo sauce for the sweet chili fish burger.
5.34 pm - shared a dumpling wanton Mee for dinner. I bought this wanton Noodles and requested it to be kosong without sauce and without soup. The seller was bewildered and told me that the noodles would be tasteless but I insisted because I planned to eat the noodles with mak Chee's soup and pickled green chilies from Thursday which we did. This wanton noodles kosong is from million ocean coffee shop too and costs MYR 7 nett.
Let's see whether or not I manage to buy another McD White chocolate strawberry pie before it gets replaced by another limited edition pie.
*** Sun 9.may.21 ***
Happy mother's day to all mothers reading this!
Went to try again because buying mcd spicy fried chicken for the elderlies as a treat. A cheat day for them so attempted to get my pie again.
Bought two white chocolate strawberry pies but get one only just like on Saturday 😅 so I cut both pies and stack them top bottom for comparison. The white chocolate pie has thicker pastry crust so is more chewy. The white chocolate strawberry fillings are not that much so the pie is not cloying but I only eat half a pie at a time to prevent being satiated. The filling is still not in liquid form, not sticky either. Kind of like a dry soft paste but the texture is negligible when eaten together with the thick pastry crust which is chewy.
Buy direct from McD instead of delivery gets a lower price. I use the McD app with App deals go get an ala carte fish o fillet burger at MYR 3 instead of MYR 8, a savings of MYR 5. The McD app is a different app from the Mcdelivery app. I have forgotten about it so I have missed out on many deals.
Cutting the pue with knife is better ,I think they give you the wrong pie for the mango filling
ReplyDeleteNo idea why they give me the mango pie cos I didn't ask.
DeleteHappy Mother's Day to all.
ReplyDeleteThat mee hoon soup looks so good, I'd enjoy the pork stomach!
If u like peppery soup, you will like the pork stomach Mee hoon.
DeleteIf McD is limiting the white choc pie to 1 per order i think they shld state in their website or app...Rather than quietly give mango pie as replacement....haih....
ReplyDeleteMaybe just this branch doing this rationing. But I tasted enough this pie d so no need to buy any more.
DeleteMaybe they ran out of white chocolate pie when your order came in? I am scared of white chocolate because it is so very sweet. I might prefer the custard mango pie.
ReplyDeleteFor both times? What a coincidence. This pie is ok. Once the white chocolate eaten together with the pastry crusts won't taste that sweet. in fact the mango pie tastes sweeter because of the thinner pastry crusts.
DeleteA long queue in McD near my place this afternoon. I wonder what was the hoohaa. No, we did not join in the crowd, just passed by the outlet to go home.
ReplyDeleteI would like to try the white choco & strawberry pie.
Oh, your side mcd also long q. Here no q at all inside shop. Only q for drive thru.
DeleteOh got white chocolate & strawberry pie, I would love it as I simply love white choco!
ReplyDeleteYes I believe you will like this pie.
DeleteToday afternoon around 3.30pm I went liberation, after that went to visit my uncle and aunt to pass them a small gift.
ReplyDeleteI had chicken rice for lunch and Indian Rojak for dinner, the Indian Rojak dinner was very satisfying but the chicken rice was so so only.
Wah, good that you maintain close relationship with your uncle and aunt by appreciating them with gifts on mother's day. Your dinner sounds good. Chicken rice normally can't go wrong also.
DeleteYesterday, I met my friend for a Coca Steamboat buffet at Suntec, the steamboat buffet dinner costs S$67.00 per person. We go on dutch. Very satisfying, we had fish paste, chicken paste, fish glue, silken tofu, chicken meat, pig livers, beef (my friend had, I did not), fried beancurd, cabbages, luncheon meat, fish maw, shrimp wantons, etc. Yums! We will be back.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a hearty dinner. Stay safe!
DeleteSomehow I am not into McD's pie. :D
ReplyDeleteU want to keep fit, cannot eat these sweet pies la.
DeleteThe elderlies have cheat days too?
ReplyDeleteHeh I had been waiting for you to review this pie since it came out. It looks much better in the ad. Hmm I remember I liked the samurai burger a lot, but if it has that much mayo them I must have been mistaken.
Yes of course elderlies have cheat days unless for some elderlies everyday is cheat day if they are allowed to eat what they like everyday.😃
DeleteSo after reading this review, will you eat this white chocolate strawberry pie? You don't like mayo?
My MIL used to eat like every day was her last haha. For easily 10+ years since she lived to a ripe old age. (Which is how I'd like to go, yeah!)
DeleteThe pie isn't that appealing to me so guess I won't bother.
Nope, don't like mayo. A bit is all right but I generally stay away from anything-mayo.
Guess your mil was very healthy and didn't need to swallow a handful of doctor prescribed medication every day.
