This kuih has many names. Kuih denderam, kuih peniaram, kuih genderam, kuih derang, kuih benderang, kuih telinga keling dan kuih genderang are some of its name. It is said to be based on Adhirasam, a sweet pastry from India. It is made from rice flour and gula merah aka molasses and deep fried so it is crunchy outside and soft inside. Have you eaten this before?I bought the smallest portion at MYR 5 Nett for 25 pieces. This is the roadside stall selling it. The banner say Peniaram Kedah.
I love these. Have to go to the kampung to buy these from the kueh stalls there but I'm not going anywhere near there right now. There is a cluster there for quite a while now and it is still active, at least one case a day. Thank goodness they've cancelled their plans to hold the Ramadan Bazaar!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, so you have eaten them and like them. yes, Better stay home because that is the safest.
DeleteWhy can't we just stick to one name right? LOL :D
ReplyDeleteYou also have many names cos u are Tekkaus but your students know you as Cikgu Lay and your English name is Christopher, right?
DeleteI have never eaten this kueh....
ReplyDeleteI have also never eaten this kueh until I bought it yesterday on Thursday.
DeleteI have eaten before but don't like it that much. "Telinga keling" is so racist haha.
ReplyDeleteToo oily for you I guess. You are right about the name. Maybe I should remove that name.
DeleteNvm ler you're just reporting a fact.
DeleteAh, ok.
DeleteSeen these before during the time I was working... as far as I can remember, they are very sweet...
ReplyDeleteYou know that they are sweet so means you ate them before?
DeleteI have not eaten this kueh before. In fact this is the first time I hear of it.
ReplyDeleteI also just know about this last year when I saw the advert about this on insta. I think there are more local goodies that I don't know about.
DeleteI dont remember I seen or taste it. I think no. I rarely buy kuih.
ReplyDeleteThis is more to a snack than a Kuih.
