WG Taste and Memories

My friend's lunch - BBQ Pork rice at MYR 12.90++ (10% service charge and 6% SST =
 MYR 14.95 nett).

She ordered it from this weekday lunch menu.

Pork Lard Rice with Luncheon Meat and Egg - unless they made the luncheon meat themselves, how would they know that there is no MSG in the luncheon meat.

I don't feel like eating these two dishes either.

It has been many years since I last ate a Big Bun (Da Bao) so when I saw it in the dim sum menu, I ordered it along with 2 other dim sum dishes without thinking much.

No MSG in the dim sum too.

Oh no, I have ordered too much food for my lunch since my friend is not going to help me eat them.

The prawn dumplings (MYR 7.8++ = MYR 9.05 nett) are bigger than the ones from many other dim sum places. It has one whole prawn in it with many crunchy jicama pieces and I think there are some minced dried shrimps in it too. Tastes ok but the skin is a bit dry. I ate all 3 prawn dumplings and kept the lao sar bao and big bao for later.

Total bill for 2 pax is MYR 43.50 nett with MYR 16.10 nett being my friend's share and MYR 27.40 nett being mine.

Taste and Memories eatery is located opposite Taman Desa Medical Centre.

They use rattan trays as decor for their ceiling.

Bring back any memories?

I managed to stuff the whole big bao (MYR 9.8++ = MYR 11.37 nett) into my container and ate it at about 4 pm.

The fillings are: a quarter hard boiled egg, a slice of char siew, a segment of wax sausage, half a slice of mushroom, chicken meat, chicken skins, pork, fatty pork pieces, jicama, onion, and a bit of whitish sauce that does not taste like mayo so I don't know what sauce that is.

I have a difficult time picking out the small pieces of meat from the fillings and leaving the fatty pieces behind so no more big bao for me. The bao skin tastes good because it is hand made but I only have room in my stomach for a quarter of the skin and kept the rest for another day.

I gave one lao sar bao to another friend and ate one at 6 pm. It has two types of fillings in one bao - pandan kaya and what tastes like kaya too (MYR 6++ = MYR 6.96 nett). Quite a tasty lao sar bao.

  1. Nowadays I find there is too much meat in Da Bao so I prefer Char Siew Bao.

    1. You are so right. I should not have ordered the Da Bao if there is no one to share it with me.

  5. Hmm lao sar pao has kaya inside?

Thought it was fine to have too much food since you can tapau, but now you can't finish the tapau-ed portion!
