Hawker Chan

On our way to Penang, we stopped by Ipoh. I wanted to try the fish noodle that Nancy wrote about here: Kopitiam Huan Le (corner shop), Lorong Taman 11, First Garden (Taman Pertama), Ipoh with off day on Mondays. It is the stall next to the wall  - only for breakfast.

As I reached Ipoh after 2 pm, I could not try the fish noodles as it is only for breakfast so I went to the next best thing - Hawker Chan, the Ipoh-Born Chef Who Won A Michelin Star to taste his famous chicken rice.

As we don't go to Ipoh often, we try as many dishes as the 4 of us can eat. I requested for one rice to be without gravy. All of us like the braised soy beans that they serve with the rice.

More food. The suen lat choy (sweet spicy hot vege) was too sweet. All of us like the taste of the sweet soy roasted chicken so we will be back as we have parking coupons left.

Total bill is MYR 56.80 nett, a good price.

Price is ok

Better buy one whole chicken than half a chicken.

I expected the eatery to be bigger so I was surprise to see it to be this small.

Storefront - Hawker Chan, Ipoh.

  1. What is inside that plate in the second photo besides the drink?

  2. Certainly is reasonably priced for something from a celebrity chef. Surprised to see that even though the place is so small, for a Michelin chef, it is not packed with people. Maybe the locals prefer their own local favourites. This guy is based in Singapore, right? Sometimes such franchises can be quite disappointing.

    1. we were there late, around 3pm so there was a break from the lunch crowd. you most probably won't find this interesting as sibu has so much good food but I think the service is good, food is ok and my friends like the tender chickens.

  3. I trust that it was a good experience. I would prefer rice with gravy on the side.
