Big, Average, Tiny

Small piece of fish - MYR3, Stirfry Spinach MYR2, Stirfry Egg with Cekur/Cangkuk Manis (Scientific Name: Sauropus androgynus) MYR2, Rice (Small Portion) MYR0.60 so total is MYR7.60 at a nearby eatery with air-conditioning.

This big poster is on the wall of the eatery: "Eat a big breakfast, average lunch and a tiny dinner" and "One must eat to live, not live to eat".

This "chap fan" place have health colour coded name tags for each of the dish with the price for one serving of the dish so the customer will not get a shock at the cashier. Red means normal dishes, yellow means semi-healthy dishes, and green means healthy dishes. I noticed that all the vegetable dishes have green name tags. Deep fried meat dishes have red name tags. I am not sure what dishes get yellow name tags. Good to have such information to help us decide what to eat.

  1. Nice! I've never seen the color coded dishes for heath! :)

That's a very good innovation and you're right, it provides customers with the information to make better food choices.

RM 7.60 sounds good. That's acceptable to me. Haha! I know, I'm very kiam siap when it comes to chap fan, I don't think it should cost that much coz I lived for a long time beside a stall where I go to everyday and the guy always gives me huge discounts - this was back when I was living in SS6.

    2. Yeah, I would sometimes go twice a day (for dinner too) if I finish work early. Alas, other places don't give such big discounts anymore. I know my current place doesn't, maybe just RM 1 difference.

    1. After work is so late already. If still cook then dinner will be served very late so faster to eat out.

  3. i never try the stirfry egg with cangkuk manis before....normally i eat it in pan mee or boiled in soup. I prefer fish tail too when in comes to selecting fish for chap fan.

  4. Wowwww!!!! That's expensive compared to what I had. That bit of fish plus two veg would be RM3 here. Nice chart! I love normal! Afree 100%. Tiny dinner...aiyor, later so hungry, cannot sleep lah. LOL!!!

  5. that is interesting, each dish is being tagged and labeled with the price, yes I would like to see that!! color tag to warn me about the calories (though I may not bother if I really love that dish, haha!!) and the price to prepare me how much I shall be paying.. that's good, because many times I just have to be worry how much my chap fan will cost me, as sometimes there is no standard in the charging but depending in the mood of the boss, haha!!

  6. "Eat a big breakfast, average lunch and a tiny dinner", that's a nice quote and may I add "a zero supper" at the end?? haha.. anyway besides observing this, I guess it is more important to eat a balanced meal and be moderate, the portion is then not really a killing factor, in my humble opinion.. and what I agree most is: eat to live but not live to eat!! :)

  13. Interesting that they take the trouble to colour tag the dishes. This is good for customers who are health concious.

  15. Cangkuk manis isn't cheap. I bought from the market to try and it was pricy - went by weight some more the big stem which contributes a lot to weight cannot be eaten.
