Almond Cookies

My co-worker from HK gave me a pack of this Almond Cookie with Whole Almond.

It is from Koi Kei Bakery

The Almond Cookie

There are chunky pieces of almonds in the cookie. This cookie is quite dry and powdery so please have a drink on standby when you eat this.

  2. I remember I hate almind cookies when I was a kid, maybe because of the rather "medicine" smell.. but then later I grew up to like it, it's actually nice huh?? love the ones with roast almond pieces in it, as well as the ones with lard in the centre.. oh, feel like having one now, haha!! :)

    1. I didn't know that there is a type with lard in the middle. Chinese almond does have a medicine smell.

  3. my first time had such almond cookies was when i was a kid about 4 or 5 years old at my grandma house. I tink that time her place dun have any food for a hungry kiddie, and mum just grabbed whatever cookies/biscuit available to feed me.
It was so hard to swallow coz of the dryness which made me dun kinda like it and hard to accept the texture/flavor. I still dislike this cookie, but each time i had it, it reminds me of my grandma coz that's the only cookies available in her house.

    1. I agree that it is very dry. Did your grandma make the cookie herself as I don't see local versions being sold except the very hard mung bean types which are more yellow in colour?

    2. my late grandma don't make the cookie. It was bought by my aunt (who has in-law relatives in HK). My aunt puts a can in grandma house so she or whoever drops by can enjoy the cookie. It's the old fashion air tight biscuit can, similar to this:

I'm not sure what brand was that, but it was kinda hard and dry, my late grandma only can eat a little, so plenty of them still left sitting in the can.

  5. Haha, did you choke while eating this?

I actually love this cookie. It can be pretty annoying to give the kids this though. They'll make such a mess out of it.

  8. I love almond cookies...but they certainly do not look like your HK ones. My favourite would be the ones in Kuching - no almond though, maybe they just use almond syrup...but each has a peanut in the middle. Cheaper, I guess. Hehehehehe!!!!!

  9. Oh I miss this type. I first bought them when I went to Guangzhou last time. Before that, none of my family have seen these almond cookies before. It was a hit, they were gone long before the other cookies that I brought back!
