*** 肉夹馍 aka Rou Jia Mo aka Rou Ga Mo ***
1.09 pm - Rou Ga Mo literally means meat sandwich. It is a street food from ShaanXi. According to wiki, it is not a full meal and is often sold with Liang pi which I also bought in this order.
The bread is a dense firm flatbread made from yeast and wheat flour. The thin layer of meat fillings consists of salty shredded pork with a bit of onion taste.
*** Pork Pie aka 肉馅饼 aka Rou Xian Bing ***
1.30 pm - pork pie - two pieces in one paper bag
Texture looks similar to roti canai and pancake though roti canai is thicker and is layered.

It seems like a piece of thin crepe pancake similar to roti canai with meat fillings folded into it as from the side view, can see the folded layers of pancake in between the meat.
*** ShaanXi cuisine ***
I also ordered scallion pancakes and Liang pi aka 凉皮 which literary means cold skin. It is made from wheat or rice flour and looks like noodles.
1 pm - the Rou Ga Mo, pork pie and scallion pancake are in one bag. The liang pi is in a plastic container and the two types of sauce for the liang pi are in another bag.
Scallion pancake - the pancake is cut into 4 pieces. This is just one piece. Thin and compact, need to chew chew chew but the doughy taste and scallion taste is nice.
*** His lunch and dinner ***
Never try such sandwich. Interesting and good that you gave it a taste. The scallion pancake looked yummy. From picture, it looked thick but you said it wasn't. I like compact pancake, but like you said, need to chew chew chew.

ReplyDeleteInterested to try?
DeleteI had something like this meat sandwich from a street vendor just once when I was working in Shanghai. Since then I've been searching for it again. The pork pie concept looks similar to our murtabak.
ReplyDeleteAh, u can go try then. They have branches nearer to you. You are right, the pork pie concept is similar to murtabak but murtabak doesn't have the layering inside, just the fillings.
