New Wing Hup Sri Petaling

On Wednesday 8.jun.22, went out to buy food despite the rain in the morning. He watched a utub video called Best Foodie Haunts in Sri Petaling so he created a quest to follow this food trail and recruited me to join this quest.

8.13 am - that is how I ended up at this New Wing Hup coffee shop on one wet early morning to buy wanton noodles, roti telur bawang and Yao zhar kwai. NuxV is familiar with this coffee shop too.

Bought 1 pack of dry thin wanton noodles and 1 pack of dry broad wanton noodles at a total of MYR 14 nett. Didn't take any photos when he ate the broad wanton noodles for dinner. This wanton noodles is recommended by the utub because it includes 5 to 6 cubes of crispy deep fried lard in the wanton noodles.

8.14 am - on usual days, this morning market in front of the coffee shop is bustling with people so lucky for me, there is very less customers on a wet morning but pity the sellers so I bought 3 navel 3107 Sunkist oranges for MYR 3 each from an elderly couple.

Before that we stopped by the roadside of Jalan Perlak to buy soy drink and taufufa from a motorcycle with a cart at the side. This elderly man sells hot non sweet soy drink at only MYR 2 for a big bag and hot non sweet tofufa at MYR 2 for a 400 ml plastic container portion. Very affordable food. Brought own containers for the soy drink, brown sugar syrup and taufufa.

9.28 am - 3 portions of taufufa in this container from home so it costs MYR 2 x 3 and taste like homemade tofufa. Totally not sweet. Very acceptable for this price.

Fried snacks from a stall in front of New Wing Hup coffee shop. Yao zhar kwai to go with the hot soy drink. Bought 2 Yao zhar kwai, 3 red bean fried dough and 1 savoury fried dough 5-spice taste with sesame seeds at MYR 1.50 each.

Roti telur bawang at MYR 3 with dhall gravy. Bought 2 pieces so it is MYR 6 for thick doughy not salty roti and gravy. Good for those who prefer non salty food.

Since we have been buying takeaway food ourselves and not all places accept cashless payments we need to topup as each outing costs about one piece of dark blue paper at least if not more. Went to a machine to get the topup so walked past Jazz Cafe and turned back to walk in to buy nasi lemak.

12.07 noon - shared this nasi lemak for lunch. I am not sure why there is broccoli in this nasi lemak but I am not complaining. The portion on the left costs MYR 6.50 and the pieces of fried chicken on the right costs MYR 3.50 so in total, it is a red piece of paper.

Walked past Tong Kee bakery which is now known by its initials only - TK bakery. Since it is early morning, there is no queue so went in to select some pastries.

Total is MYR 19 for:
1. 3 x MYR 2.60 for egg tarts made with lard
2. 1 pork siew bao at MYR 3
3. 2 x MYR 4.10 for lotus paste salted egg pastry.
He likes the lard egg tart and would choose them over Nam Heong egg tarts since this price is lower.

  4. I just went to TK today. Got only chicken pies this time from the pastry section and no egg tarts as I'd gotten those just a week ago. I must have tried the butter one once and didn't find anything special about it so now I always get the normal (lard?) ones.

    1. Butter ones got butter taste. Lard ones got lard taste. But if not sensitive to butter and lard taste then both taste the same. 😂I haven't eaten tk chicken pies before. They should be tasty since you buy them.

    2. I've seen people complaining not enough filling in the chicken pies. But I've always liked them as I like the pastry part too.
