Hailam Revisit

Last year we ate at Hailam Kopitiam, Jalil Link in August and I notice then that their prices were low for a modern styled kopitiam. Now we are back because I have forgotten how their mee siam tastes like and found that they have wised up and revised their prices to be at the market rate which is a reasonable move on their part.

Mee Siam - MYR10.90++ add 10% service charge and 6% GST = MYR12.70 nett. The mee hoon is soft and although this is a savoury dish, overall the mee hoon is on the sweet side so I have to remember this point.

Nasi Lemak Ayam Rendang (Coconut milk rice with rendang spiced chicken) - MYR11.90++ = MYR13.90 nett. The rendang is creamy from the coconut milk.

Coffee with ice - MYR4.50++ = MYR5.25 nett. I seldom drink hot coffee but I do drink cold coffee once in a while. Total cost: MYR31.85 for two pax.

  1. I am also a regular patron at Hailam's. I noticed their prices are steeper than other joints but I just closed my eye to enjoy the convenience.

    1. The branch at Jalil Link has low prices a year ago Now their prices are in line with the other brands of new-style kopitiam. Are the prices of the branch near you different from this branch?

    2. There was one inside my Taman and went bankrupt. It was being run by a Pakcik and anak-anak, hence bad service.
So I often ate the one in Taman Megah ~ Slit throat menu.

  7. Hailam makes me think of chicken rice...but your nyona/Malay selections sure look very good. Prices a bit on the high side but I guess that is usual at such kopitiam kind of places.

    1. You are right about the price. There is a Hailam chicken rice shop in Kuchai Lama but I have not been there.

    1. True about the price. Last year their price is low but they adjusted it to be the same as other kopitiam prices.

    1. Of course lah, if all your competitors charge high price and you provide simillar food and ambiance of course you need to adjust your low price to be the same as them lah. Else will rugi.

  10. I think I have an outlet near where I stay but didn't have fond memories of it the last time I ate there. But what you've shown here looks alright....maybe it's time for a revisit. There's also another one called Pak Hailam....not the same, right? Eh, first time I've seen a plate of nasi lemak with two hard-boiled eggs....or is that two halves facing down! :D
