Too cooling?

Homecooked with love by my mother - Barli, Mung Bean, Ginkgo Sweet Soup that is not sweet at all because she did not put any sugar in it. I love to drink this but some people can't take this because it is too "cooling". After drinking this, they will go to the washroom many times in a day.

  1. Going to the washroom many times is good - detox but gotta drink more water so that will not dehydrate. Good to have "cooling stuff" especially on hot days or when out in the sun a lot - may evade heat stroke. But if one's body system is "cold", taking such things may trigger a cough.

  2. Long time did not cook barley and mung bean soup. I seldom add gingko into my dessert but I love all the 3 combination. My hubby prefer mung bean while kids like barley so I seldom mix both together.

  3. ooh I would like to have this, it looks good.. I know mung beans are cooling, barley helps to pass out water.. I have no problem with this because my body is "cool based"..

    1. You can take a slow cooker to your office and cook this there for everyone to eat.

  6. I never seen barley and mung bean cooked together, my mom always make barley-gingko-fu chuk soup, or mung bean soup, but never mixing them together. I wonder how it tastes...

    1. You can stand the mung bean taste with no sugar? Most people can't accept that taste.

  8. If no sugar can call sweet soup or not... haha. I've never had this combo before. Gingko isn't easy to buy (I don't trust the China 'instant' ones).

    1. My mother buys those ginkgo nuts still in their hard shells. Those instant ones already peeled do not taste good. hahaha, they fall under sweet soup category so even though they have no sugar they should also be counted as sweet soup, hehehe.

    2. Ahh the nuts still in shells one I know. Gotta pound them, remove the flesh and then take out the bitter heart.... for EACH little nut. Too much work for me haha.

    3. but only those in shells are more fresh.

  9. Hi Mun, I am not worried about the soup being too cooling. This is interesting. I have never boiled this combination before. Its always barley with gingko and then mung beans. I think I would also try out this combination.
