Old Chang Kee

OCK's curry puffs are big and fat (100g each). There are many types sold such as the basic curry puffs with only potatoes curry (MYR2 each), Curry'O with chicken meat, a slice of hardboiled egg, potatoes curry (MYR2.40 each), Sardine Puffs (MYR2.60 each) and Mutton Curry Puffs (MYR2.90 each). Prices are nett. I like Curry'O best. Apart from than curry puffs, they sell other deep fried food on skewers which I have never bought.

I think this is the traditional shape of curry puffs. To me, Ikea's curry puffs are shaped like Kaya puffs (kaya kok).

OCK originates from Singapore and has been here for more than 20 years and I think they are still going strong seeing the size of its outlets. This is the outlet at One Utama. One good thing about OCK is that they hire speech impaired (mute) people as customer service personnel behind the counter.

This is the outlet at Tesco, Mutiara Damansara. The size of this outlet is big too. I heard that there is another outlet at Avenue K according to SK. Are there many more outlets around the Klang Valley?

  1. They remind me of Homi's - size and price. Mine was brought over from Singapore so not fair to base my judgement on those - best to eat on the spot. I did not like Homi's though, did not think they were great.

This OCK sure seems to be doing very well in KL - such a big outlet. Nice of them to engage the disabled people, one BIG plus point in their favour! I would go and buy some of the puffs, just for that reason. What goes around comes around.

    1. Homi curry puffs' pastry is different, it is layered and flaky. I also do not like it.

  3. if not mistaken, I think OCK first landed KL around 20 years ago, was still in college and I often like to buy curry puffs and those fried stuffs from them, it was a stall outside BB Plaza.. and later on I think they closed down and only recently they made a come back and started going into malls.. plenty of them now..

I've never bought from this chain leh... Actually I am quite skeptical with hawker food from Singapore. Basically all of my KL/Penang friends who moved to Singapore complain about how hopeless it is, the hawker food there, even the famous ones... I always thought maybe Malaysians/Singaporeans palate are different.. :/

    1. Thanks for the link. Only 4 outlets in the whole of M'sia - so little.

I like food in Singapore as the taste is light and not heavy like here.

  7. We were at 1 Utama over the weekend but didn't notice this. I've heard of the place though.

I'll be sure to pick up some of the Mutton ones next time! :)

  8. I've never liked Old Chang Kee...I find their crusts too thick and doughy, and the ends are especially hard. At RM2.40, I'd gladly buy 2 Ikea puffs instead!

    1. I actually liked the ends...more than the puff proper! LOL!!!

    1. Yes, the fillings are quite a lot and the curry puffs are all very plump.
