I was shopping for grocery one day and noticed that someone has parked an elderly couple in the supermarket. They were left there without their carers for quite a long time. Why were they left there? Because there was a huge TV hanging on the wall where they were facing. I guess their carers needed to buy some grocery but there was no one at home to look after them so their carers brought them along and parked them there to watch TV while their carers went to buy grocery.
Maybe they also needed a time out. But makes you want to wish there's someone you can grow old with, right? I love watching old couples. They remind me that true love is real and there is a thing such as forever.
ReplyDeleteActually I don't know whether this couple is just a brother or sister because they did not talk to each other the whole time that I was observing them. The old lady was like staring into a distance and did not seem to be there although physically she was there.
DeleteWe're all going to be there one day. I don't want to think about it.
ReplyDeleteNot if we die young!
DeleteDid you wait til the carer came back for them? Hope they came back very soon after that..
ReplyDeleteI wonder the same question also, how's ending??
DeleteYes, I waited until a man and woman around 60s came back with some grocery which they show to the elderly man and then they went to buy more grocery leaving what they have bought earlier on the lap of the elderly man. Both eldery persons did not speak to each other. Both did not speak but the elderly man did nod his head when his carer talked to him. Did not stay to see them leave.
DeleteAt least they take the trouble to take them out. I am sure they do not mind - they would be more understanding than little kids, crying for attention all the time. These outings would mean a lot to these old folks - anytime better than being left at home, with or without a caregiver. That can get real depressing, I know.
ReplyDeleteWell for some elderly persons it is not wise to take them out and leave them alone outside. What if they have an emergency like stroke or heart attack and their carer is not there with them and strangers took them to an unfamiliar hospital?
DeleteI once watched a movie where the main actor saw what you actually saw.. at first he wonders why there is no one to take care of the elderly.. end up he realized it is actually the elderly who wanted it that way, so that they could actually meet up with other friends and to chat to pass time.. it's not where but what they want to do and who they want to see.. :)
ReplyDeleteThese two were not talking to each other and the look on their faces were kind of blank.
DeleteMight seem bad for us to see them being left to watch TV, but I suppose it is better than leaving them at home where we cannot see. At least the carers care to bring them out. Maybe they had/going to have a meal together, but grocery while pushing wheelchairs would be too troublesome so this is a win-win.
ReplyDeleteagree with RG there.
DeleteCould be they asked to wait there and watch some TV instead of going aisle of groceries
They might be in front of the TV but I don't think they were watching the TV because they looked kind of dazed and not even speaking to each other.
DeleteI think the old folks would have preferred to be pushed around the supermarket than watch TV but maybe the caregiver was unable to do so. I wonder how the caregiver will push the wheelchair after he or she comes back with bags of groceries in his or her hands.
ReplyDeleteI saw them putting the grocery on the laps of the elderly persons before going to buy more grocery.
DeleteThat's the sad reality of ageing. I suppose the carer had no choice but to park the couple in front of the TV for a while to get about with the grocery shopping. It's not easy to take care of old folks.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it is not easy to take care of old folks. That's why I hope not to live until so old.
