Banoffee Pie

I once read a review that says you can't call yourself a pie shop if you do not sell Banoffee Pies. Banoffee = Banana+Toffee. I was around that area so I went to buy one to try as I have never eaten one before.

This is the smallest Banoffee Pie - MYR12.50 each (nett price)

Top view

Cross Section view - The base is made from disgestive biscuits. The banana tastes a bit on the unripe side but still ok because there is no taste of the slight bitter tastes of tannins that are in unripe bananas. On top of the biscuit base and in between the bananas, there is melted toffee which is not very sweet. Then on top of everything I assume the white dome is made of whipped cream. It is just an ok sweet pie for me - I can't see what is the big deal about Banoffee Pies.

  1. I see your point! Same with me - I don't know what's so special about banoffee pie ...

  2. I've not eaten banoffee pie neither. Looks very creamy. I'm not too sure if I'll like it. I guess I must really try it first. Haha

  4. Gosh. For such a price, I would expect bigger portion. I never tasted it before but again I am not so into sweet pastry.

  5. Banoffee pie is one of my favourite desserts! The caramel and base have to be just right though, and the bananas too of perfect ripeness.

    1. Oh so have to use ripe bananas for this pie but the one I ate the bananas do not seem to be ripe.

  6. Good grief! The price!!! That, I must say, is far from humble. Looks really rich, worth a try...but I guess that would be it, not at that price!

  7. First time I hear banoffee pie, looks very creamy on top.. Would like to try it, but I prefer savory pies, like beef pies or chicken mushroom pies..

  8. The price...do they have other pie or other food? Or they just selling this...I thought if like selling this kind of price the store one must be famous or located in pavilion or KLCC those high-end places. If not by selling this kind of prices for just one kind of pie, I guess not many people willing to buy and eat lo!

    1. Yes, you can order other pies and food and they will then make the food so the other savoury pies are not sold under the counter. But the rental in pavilion or KLCC is so much more higher so the price of the pies if set up there will be more expensive too.

  9. high five!!! I agree with you that I don't find it a point that "you are not a pie shop if you don't sell banoffee pie".. it just doesn't seem any special to me, and the shop is not as "humble" as the name suggests, hehe!! :p

    1. Maybe the person is a pie lover so expects all kind of pies to be included to qualify the shop as a pie shop.

  10. I've not eaten banoffee pies before...and looking at the pic, I don't think I want to! There's just too much cream on top. Anyway, I'm not into sweet pies, I like savoury ones especially chicken and mushroom :)

    1. But if share a small one with another person would be fine and with a nice cup of hot coffee (disclaimer: I don't drink coffee - the most is a sip out of someone else cup).

  12. Don't even know such a pie exists. I'm trying to imagine banana + toffee, but they don't seem to go well together. Hmm...

    1. The toffee is not those hard thick sticky ones but quite soft and liquid like so the combination works. I would not ask you to try because your mother will scold me.

  13. I've checked the recipe previously and saw how it is made on TV. My conclusion is that this is a very sweet American dessert.

    1. Wiki says it is English. Funny thing is I have not seen it when I was living in UK but then I seldom eat out when I was there.

  17. I like the name of the shop. :) Arggh the price for a pie THAT size isn't humble at all though.

    1. You also find it expensive! I guess you can easily make this pie as you can eat banana, digestive biscuits, toffee and cream easily.
